Looks like they went with the anime accurate legs instead of the master file legs

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
Knight26 replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ok, I positted something similar to this the 1/60 VF-19 Kai toy thread but I will repeat it a little here. How much of the design retcons seen in the master file do people think will migrate over to the new VF-19 toy? There are two big ones in my opinion, the common thigh the master file shows, whereas before every VF-19 after the VF-19F had a new more rounded thigh design, which I never cared for, and the wing fold design. Now the wing fold might not be possible to reproduce, those linkages within the wing would make it very weak and at the 1/60 scale much harder/more expensive to manufacture. The thigh retcon though opens up a world of possibilities, including a VF-19A/C, that uses the new common parts. According the master file, with exception of the canopy openning (YF-19 having the split, and all others rear hinging), the 19 series all has the following common parts: Forward fuselage (with the exception of the canopy on the YF-19, and the two seater 19B/D) Thighs Arms (Biceps->hands) Chest Crotch IMHO these are the most important/largest most major assemblies of the 19 Series. This also leaves the following parts different between the models. LERX (YF->19D (common), 19E-19Kai (common)) Vertical Stabs (YF->19D (common), 19E-19Kai (common)) Lower Legs (YF->19D (common), 19E-19Kai (common)) Wings (YF->19D (common), 19F/S (common), 19E/Kai (unique)) Heads (YF->19D (common), all others unique) Shields (YF->19D (common), 19E->19Kai (common)) Shoulders (YF->19D (common), 19E->19S (common), 19Kai (unique due to opennings)) Canards (YF->19E/P/Kai (common), 19F/S (common verniers)) Guns (YF->19S (common), 19Kai (unique)) With the except of the lower legs and wings, most of these are fairly minor assemblies. What do people think? For the most part I consider these parts of minor design impact if all the others are common. If the master file design retcons do show up in the new toy, it could mean more VF-19 toys of multiple variants, but would people accept the design retcon? It might not even mean a YF-19 V3 toy, but the use of the VF-19Kai toy parts, if the list I provided proves accurate, could still easily yield VF-19A/C toys with reusing and some minimal redesign of parts from the YF-19 toy. Graham if I am forgetting any parts reuse/uniqueness please excuse/correct me. -
It's ok Lucas, you can repay me with art or by buying me one of these, lol. Seriously though, why have we seen nothing of the legs yet? I think the legs will be the fan make or break on this, and I will explain why. The original VF-19 F/S/Kai have the same legs, which are wholy different from the legs on the YF-19/VF-19A, but hold the phone. Now comes the master file, which basically says that all YF/VF-19 variants have a common thigh design, whether or not the common thigh is an official retcon has yet to be established, or is the Master Files' common thigh a shortcut the authors/artists took. I am curious to see how Yamato goes, becuase as we know SK tends to bless their designs, so if he said "yeah verily, all VF-19s have a common thigh design as in the master file" (note that would all be in japanese), how will fans react?

Oh come on we all know that the next robobleck production will just be a compilation movie of ASTROPLAN, redubbed with robotech characters.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
Knight26 replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
If that is the case then the VF-17/171 would actually be the most logical next choice. Think about it, they went SDF/DYRL (VF-1) -> Plus (YF-19) (moreso the hero in that then the YF-21, but that is splitting hairs) -> next series is Mac7 (VF-17 is the hero valk) (VF-11 [CF], sound force (hero), but too many variants, and the VF-19Kai was partially covered already) -> Mac 0 (VF-0 Obviously), -> Frontier (VF-25) So I see the master file going like this: Mac7 (VF-17/171) (VF-19 already mentions NUNS, so going that route is not an impossible idea) Mac0 (VF-0) (shorter book, but will probably elaborate on what happened the VF-0 post SW-1) MacF (VF-25) (no brainer) SDF/DYRL/2012 (VF-4, possible VF-1 additional with all the extra customs and FAST Packs) Mac+/7 (VF-11) Mac7 (Sound Force Variants exclusive) Mac0 (Sv-51) MacF (VF-27) Mac+/7 (VF-22) MacF (VB-6) All others only appears in games IIRC, so might not get books until much later. But that list should keep us all satisfied for up to 10 years if they keep to their current schedule. So, step it up guys lets get one every 6-9 months, we have too many VFs to cover. Of course a new Macross show could be introed as well that might upset the list, but we will see. Let's also get some other master files in there, Destroids (all one book), Macross Class(SDF-1 and all post SW-1 variants, MacF tells us they kept producing), Megaroad Class, New Macross Class, Zentraedi Master Files, etc... -

That would be cool, especially since, as I stated before, they used more YF-19 parts then I think were used before in the F/S/Kai models, and with the common nose section we could a really awesome YF-19 V3. -

Just got my copy, and a few comments. I need to see lineart of the original VF-19F/S/Kai intakes, as it looks like they changed those to match the ones on the YF-19-A/D series. Not a bad compromise, but I remember them being more rounded before. If they are the same, and it is an official retcon, then that adds many more parts that are common between the versions. VC-19V: Hate it, horrible concept, what is the freaking point? I want a phantom Sword VF-19C/D fully variable with all those parts. Interesting attempt at fixing the wing sweeping issue, but I still don't buy it. Even if those panels slide back they will still cut into the engine. The way we figured it out years ago really seems to work better, but even that was some serious oragami going on. The only way I see the wing sweep working is if the wing has to fold down a little to allow it, then fold back up. For a variable fighter that might not be much of an issue, but still, sweeping the VF-19's wings always seemed silly to me. Also, besides the one scene where we seem them swept back in Mac-Plus, do we ever see the YF/VF-19s wings sweep other than during transformation? We really need a translation of this whole book. Has anyone been brave enough to try and make the XVF-19-1, the VF-11 with the YF-19 wings? That would be an interesting custom to see. Any bets on the next book? Seems that they are turning out a master file a year, so which aircraft is next? They seem to like VFs with lots of variants so we have several to choose from. The VF-11 (5+ variants known, A-D, XL, Kai), the VF-17/171 (9+ variants, A-D, S, K, Kai, RVF, EX, etc...), the VF-25 (4+ variants, A, F, G, S, RVF). I generally assume that there will be an A-D variants except in the case of the VF-25, but maybe that is just me. There are other VFs out there of course, but they don't have as many variants, and while the master file folks seem to like making up variants, they also like having variants to start from. Also, did anyone else notice that the focker paint scheme YF-19, is Isamus? -
How about a big zip of all these at once?

Love it, a couple comments. THe actual production YF-23 would have brought the engines closer together and added shock cones to the intakes, and would have had another weapons bay where you have the drop tank. As for the canards, those would not have been present, but I love it none the less.

very nice, but the colors look more Gamlin VF-22S, the YF-21, except for the cockpit, but I like it very much.

That is absolutely gorgeous, and I may get stoned for this, and even better then Kurt's build, especially with all those added little details.
-
Pretty great Hasegawa 1/72 scale VF-1 with cutaway details...

very nice, but not enough close ups, especially of the engine and the left side of the cockpit. -
Lord knows if I had the money to buy one of those I would shell out the extra few hundred to have Kurt do it justice as well, lovely job.

That's an awful lot of wing tip vortice contrails going on there...

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
Knight26 replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
I remember a long time ago we figured out that the yf-19 wing does some origami to get into the high speed config, with the leading and trailing edges either folding flat, 180 degrees, against the rest of the wing, or retracting into the high camber portion before swinging back. I always agreed with the second method as it makes more sense in Aero-D, but both are horrid for structures. Of course it could be some advanced aerolastic wing as well. -
Very cool, would be awesome if you could make it into an airsoft kit, build it around the reciever of an airsoft AEG, work the mag into the feed system and actually fire it with the sound effects, that would be epic cool, kind of like the shirow gun kits people make to mod airsoft guns with.

What thoughts are those? -
Ok, what is the point of that? The color pallete is jarring on the eyes in 3D, and nasseu inducing. Maybe I am not a big enough fan of Mario to care, but I think it looks terrible.
