When the crowd enhances the performance:

Considering the immense strides taken within the Speed Champions line, and the subtle bleed over to City cars and trucks over the past few years (very likely due to former SC designer Chris Stamp, now a design lead for City), it's unfortunate that some of those innovative techniques haven't been applied here. I realize this is targeted at a younger age bracket than SC, but would it hurt anything to dress up a fictional fighter/aerobatics jet to impart a slight air of refinement? For me, since I was a wee lad, I've always prized folding landing gear in a toy, especially since the occurrence was, and still seems to be, a rarity. Regarding the Blue Power Jet, let me preface by saying I was following Mike Psiaki's creations long before he got hired by LEGO, and knowing the quality of his work, I was very much looking forward to what he'd bring to the table. He certainly hasn't disappointed, and while the Blue Power Jet remains on permanent display in my collection, and while I'm a fan of his Expert Creator cars, his impressive upgrade to the Galaxy Explorer remains the crown jewel, IMHO, of his catalog and I'm exceedingly grateful that he, of all the talented designers, was the one to tackle that design. I honestly don't think it would have been as great as it was under any other hand. Look no further than the lackluster followup, The Blacktron Renegade, which felt like a disappointment after the stunning and innovative Galaxy Explorer. You probably wouldn't like my VF-4 or one of my current projects, as I used cones to create the noses on both. In certain circumstances, I think they perform the job adequately. Not perfectly, but they get the job done and look closer to RW jet radomes than wedges, IMHO. The fact that The Blue Power Jet was nigh unambiguously an F-35 in airshow colors and got released, yet the Technic V-22 in rescue livery was canxed citing LEGO's "no current military" stance is laughable on its face. I was sooo looking forward to building that V-22, one of my favorite aircraft. Ironic, then, that about a decade ago they released a very V-22 inspired heli-plane set in their City Cargo subtheme. How does that work?๐คจ

@tekering - I would like to rent out the top floor corner penthouse please sir! I'll have my things sent over next week! ๐ Looks awesome!
-
@tekering well it sure came out great and sounds like you have plenty of future plans for it. ๐
-
This one I acquired for myself. I figured it would be fun to display and photograph with scale vehicles and figures, including Transformers, Hot Wheels/Tomica, and GoodSmile's entire line of Patlabor models... and since it's cost me less than $400 altogether, I can sell it later and still make a profit. โบ๏ธ Happy New Year, everybody! ๐

Wow. Thatโs outstanding! Is it for your personal collection or a commission piece?
-
Well, the structure is complete... Now I've got a ton of cosmetic work to do on each of the balconies. 1:64 figures seem an ideal size to establish scale. ๐

Iโve been chipping away at it for years. Just finished this 1/200 one yesterday. According to my calcs, if I manage to find restraint from buying more, I should be able to complete them around the same age Yoda was when he bit it.

Yeeeeeh. @TangledThorns- totally agree on all fronts. I'm not even in a hurry to watch the finale after they sh*t the bed so hard with part 2.....

That's a good looking Galactica. Yeah. I'm working up the courage to deal with that middle pylon as well, nice of Monogram NOT to have made that part correctly.

It is; the current Gerald R. Ford class carriers are about 1106 ft (337m) long; Prometheus is 1679 ft (512m) long. That would make them about half-again as long as our largest naval carriers. Source: https://macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/carrier-prometheus.htm

oh no, that is @RT junkie's picture, I just used it for reference. His shelves are much more organized than my chaos.

UPDATE! I just happened to find two Tamiya Dull Red rattle cans in the back of my paint/junk shelf in the garage with juuuust enough left between the two to get a good coat down! YAY! @Papa Rat - That's a LOADED question - Some people paint acyrlics onto the bare brass, I had HORRIBLE results trying that on Titanic a few years back. It just flaked right off when I handled it. Mr. Hobby makes Metal Primer both liquid and spray can but it's next to impossible to find anywhere in the lower 50 nowadays, especially now. I prefer to prime my PE with some kind of metal primer, then paint them once they are on the ship, OR the best way to do it if possible is to build all the PE and put it on the model FIRST, THEN prime and paint everything. Unfortunately, that's not always possible. Any paint should be fine after a coat of primer on PE. @Thom - I don't know yet.....haven't made up my mind.

Looks like @RT junkie is going to have a very busy and happy retirement! (in 10-15 years...) Good looking collection @Shawn Now just make sure you have enough glue and paint!
-
And this movie is going to be three or four hours long..? Sounds like this should be the climax of a new trilogy.

@Papa Rat Just back in the hobby and already completed 20 builds! And some real nice ones too! @derex3592 Hope the colors work out for you. Are you weathering it, such as rust and algae?

Now THIS is my kind of post! That is a healthy collection you've got going there, have a lot of classic hard to find kits! The layer of undisturbed dust on the open ends is awesome and shows the time in the archives. You should take a half day off and remove the front layers from some of those shelves to see what is hiding on the back layer too! I love how you can always super stack the Nichimos into every nook and cranny at the tops, I've got a couple shelves looking just like this one

Holy cow! That's quite the cast..
