The computer and electronics super geek thread

The market for a "raw power, no fancy features" card certainly exists. "No RTX, no DLSS, no AI, just pure polygon-calculating-power". -
R.I.P. threads will no longer be a part of MacrossWorld going forward. The only exceptions will be regarding those who were a direct part of the Macross franchise. Thank you for your understanding. - MacrossWorld Admin and Moderation team

The Maxx was one of the greatest comic to cartoon animations ever, if not the best. The whole Image team back then was great, loved the comic and show. Lots of little details and an original story.
-
Thank you, that was the shock of the news.
-
Actually, it's "Kieth," not "Keith." He was one of those rare comic book writers who could also draw incredibly well.

https://bleedingcool.com/comics/sam-kieth-creator-of-the-maxx-and-sandman-has-died-aged-63/ I discovered Sam Kieth's art through comics, and later through the animated series The Maxx on MTV Brazil. I really liked his "busy" art style, and how he expressed every detail of the characters like few others. We will miss him, but now he must be happy, in his Outback with his creations. Thanks

Thanks fellas! The next project will be a vertical screen arcade bartop similar in finish and design. Three buttons, stick & spinner.

I think the head design was just trying to set itself apart from a lot of the other mecha stuff from the era. It kinda grew on me a bit when I would find the little Bandai models decades ago. as far as the show, if you’ve never watched it before, prepare yourself for a terrible ending. They cancelled the show early and the final battle isn’t really there. I’d suggest finishing the series, but watch the OVA as well. The first two parts kinda mix things up a bit and re tell the story with mostly scenes from the series and are a little tough to watch, but the last episode gives a real final battle that feels totally missing from the series. I feel like the cancellation may have been due to the dragging story in the beginning of the show, but I really feel like things get really good after they leave mars. And things get wild once they get to the Moon, almost like a bit of a short horror arc. Might have been my favorite few episodes because it was such a change up from the first few

It’s actually the 1/60 Yammie Double Nuts YF-19 that I posted @MKT before it got axed out due to regulatory reasons. Paid $295 Beaver Dollars in total (with EMS shipping and the $29.40 CBSA processing fees). Why the Double Nuts call sign? From what former member from here has mentioned: Double Zero : 00 [Air Force Sign]

Velma always looked like a light brunette to me. Daphne on the other hand is another case of the gingers being erased from entertainment. Not sure if they’ll try and dye the hair though. Velma always had an awkward overall look and they should just find someone that actually looks awkward to play her. They always seem to find someone that’s not awkward to play Velma and then have a really hard time trying to find someone prettier to play Daphne and end up with someone more awkward to play Daphne than Velma in a different way. I remember everyone thought that the movie Velma was hot and nobody really ever like Daphne’s looks in the movie even though she was supposed to be the hot one.

Yeah this one is staying in fighter mode for sure. That battroid is just... bleh.

I was about to set up my Plus area like that, except with the Arcadia YF-19 instead. Bandai's effort is just inferior IMO.

Looks better than the one I did a few years back. Might have been more than a few, possibly 20. I remember the colors being a newer version of their even older 1/144 kit although I still remember it being a long while back

Or aliens in general (not just humanoid alien-types). Judging by Nvidia's responses in Daniel Owens' video, DLSS 5 isn't even a TikTok/Instagram filter. It's straight-up re-interpreting the image based on the game engine's input. Not even an overlay. They've showcased a lot of people in their renders but what about in-animate objects (a bunch of environment shots, but how about something less lighted like Hollywood went touring for scenic B-roll shots) A shadow cast on a textured wall could be reinterpreted as, for example, a different color with cracks or a different texture altogether in one frame before being correctly interpreted in the next frame by DLSS. Random dirty graffiti on a wall could be reinterpreted as moss in a random scene in Last of Us just because the AI thinks it's moss or something just by the way it was drawn by the game engine, lighting was set for the scene, etc. We shall see though. I think the more important takeaways right now are a) Nvidia generated those renders with two 5090s, b) these tools are further locking in developers to Nvidia's software. Nvidia says you only need 1 card to do this but they're not making the case by using two cards, and surely not helping by using their halo product line. If Nvidia is pushing more resources to neuro rendering, will the next RTX cards carry less raw performance and lean more heavily on AI-accelerating hardware? I think that is the direction they are heading. It's the direction they've always been heading. We've seen rasterization performance slowly being less focused by Nvidia. I think the better saying is "Masks off." The other is locking developers into their ecosystem. With AMD slipping to only 5% of the GPU market and Intel barely being a blip on the chart, Nvidia is barrelling to a monopoly. And we know where that will lead. -
Finished up the Wave 1/144 LED Colus. a fun little build. Noticing a lot of sinks in this kit among other strange design choices for construction

Congratulations @xstoys! I noticed the canopy is colored differently from the built up toy version releases. Very cool. -

I'm very curious on how it works on non-human characters. "Hey, Mass Effect Super-Legendary Remake. Blue aliens---must be Na'vi, add the Na'vi filter!" Because that's probably the only "blue humanoid aliens" it's trained on... -

This would look cool if it was the DX. Even HMR. Is this AI generated?
