  2. Originally there was a display stand (look picture) stand but the product page changed in February 2024 and the stand has disappeared from the description.
  3. One thing that's clear about this release is at least the line isn't dead yet! And I have a strong feeling the DX series will finally get this, this year! Or I certainly hope so! 🤗 But if they don't have someone to give the Macross series their full effort internally they should outsource a company to put the DX & Hi-Metal R series back on track! or a consultant that can bring these series back on track!
  4. Yep, I think it really depends on which mode you want to display/swoosh it in. Yamato wins fighter mode by a landslide, but the other two modes have stability issues, and will need a stand. Also has significantly less "detail" than the Bandai, but whether those details are a positive or negative feature is really up to the individual. All in all, it's more like an aircraft model with two incidental alternate modes. I'll echo Jenius' thoughts on the Bandai in general though, it's a much better overall toy, in the sense that it handles and poses well. I think if the Yamato had never existed, we would all be a lot more forgiving of its flaws. If you're looking for one to pickup, the Bandai also gets the market saturation bonus, since it's much easier to get a copy of. If you're after something to pose and display in battroid or gerwalk, it just makes more sense to get the Bandai one right now. If you want a fighter mode... I'd still get the Bandai DX, and then depending on your ability with model building, I'd either get one of the 1/100 Bandai HG YF-21 kits to display as a fighter, or one of the 1/72 Hasegawa kits. Any of those will be easier on your wallet than tracking down a Yamato in good shape at this point.
  5. Depends on your personal thresholds. I say just get both to satisfy your urges. I do highly suggest to try to get the DX-21 at or below US$200 shipped, tho. The Yammie-21 is ancient, so you're at the mercy of scalpers for pricing...
  6. I’m glad to see our fandom community growing. I always see questions or comments about first time viewing the series or advice on which toys to get.
  7. Back in the day, a big Macross fan ran Hi Metal R, that's how we got destroids and the Vf-2SS, then they cycled managers and we've been on cruise control ever since.
  8. To play a lot with it, tranform it several times, take a pictures and so on, hands down Bandai since it is more sturdy and plastic is relatively new while Yamato is extremely fiddly and since it is quite old toy it can be very brittle. If you want only to display, Bandai if you want Battroud mode and Yamato if you want a fighter mode. This is my currente set up. Bandai for Battroid mode, both 19 and 21, and Yamato/Arcadia both for fighter mode.
  9. For anyone who owns both the yamato and bandai YF-21: can you offer any opinions on which is the best 1/60 YF-21? I know @jenius wrote in his reviews that the yamato is the overall better choice, but he also pointed out that gerwalk and battroid mode needs a stand which seems like a significant flaw. Any second opinions? Thanks!
  10. Errr, those reddit-community folks must be very very new to this DX Roy since Bandai flooded the market with the original DX Roy back in the day at quite reasonable pricing from both jp retail shops and jp auction-sites. Most of us here got it at below-MSRP preorder-pricing, of course. In multiples, even! With 3k-yen to 5k-yen shipping-fees!!! and no tariffs-virus whatsoever. I reckon DX Roy was the most plentiful and the most readily available in retail for weeks to be had among the DX VF-1 releases. I believe only the TV FAST-Pack had more purchasing drama since it was TWE or something.
  11. Well since this is a dedicated collectors forum, I can understand the points of views that are posted here! After all this series has been going on for over 6 years and since the release of the DX VT-1 Super Ostrich almost everything has been a product which was previous released in one form or another! either a recolour or a complete re-release! Collectors want what's missing! especially since some of the units where presented as prototypes long time ago! I have the feeling that who ever was in charge of the series at the beginning would have brought this series further, but for some reason He was replaced by a mid or low level production manager who either has no knowledge of the series or what to release next and is just releasing thing that take no effort to reproduce! If I think how Bandai is handling their Hi-Metal R, Armoured Trooper V.O.T.O.M's line, here there is a person in charge from another company that is obviously a fan of the anime. And the releases have been top notch for the last two years! and they have already shown us the next three releases! It's who is in charge and how they handle things that make a series a hit or miss! And this series has been placed on the back burner a year and a half ago! Sadly! 😢
  12. Today
  13. Didn't take long for Hasbro to crank out repaints of SS86 Prime and Megs. No interest personally, but for those who are, I lament the inaccurate hole in Prime's grill rather than his left side for the shard damage. These look like very low effort money grabs to me. I'm happy with the OG releases.

  15. It’s interesting to see the contrast in reactions on this forum compared to the subreddit. I know most of us are old-timers that already have the original release are complaining of another reissue, while the Reddit community are generally happy to get a chance to buy one at a reasonable price.
  16. Thanks for posting pics. I hadn't seen these, so I thought @renegadeleader1 was referring to something else. These look very simplistic and remind me of the City Missions sets from a couple years ago. Still, these look like they invite creativity and building one's own creations versus just building a single main model, and that gets down to the core of what LEGO's all about. I tend towards the more refined City Space and old Space themes, but I get what they're going for and hope it finds an audience.
  17. The Mars rover looks really cool IMO. Like something from the late '80s or early '90s. The Moon set is not as exciting IMO but has the beginnings of a spaceship. I'm not sure if a minifig can fit sitting down under the windscreen, because the minig is shown standing up "Slave 1" style in other images. In other news, the upscaled blue astronaut is slated for March 1st according to recent leaks.
  18. Or badge it Hikaru or make it the DYRL version... Something to make it interesting. A super Hikaru TV version seems like an obvious later release... Probably a TN event exclusive!
  19. I’m all in for more regurgitation armor and weapons, but this VF-1 is just tiring. If they were to make this into a grey body colored Roy, then I’m in. 🤪
  20. The Hi-Metal R Scopedog will release February 21, 2026..... A week after we should know what the next release is!? 🤗
  21. Great job on those weapons. love the Rick Dom kits. I kinda want to somehow combine the old and new kits one day to upgrade the joints, but keep the head and lower legs of the old one. Overall though the HGUC version is great. I built the purple years ago and have a green one boxed away. as far as cats, definitely cat lovers around this house. Down to two of them unfortunately. Just had to put one to sleep two weeks ago after a battle with cancer. She was my little helper, always wanting in the box. But I still have my two more lazy boys here and trying to move on and get back to things after taking a break.
  22. That's wild! Something reminiscent of Scar or Chiggy Von Richtofen. And what's not to love about armor with cod pieces!
  23. Thanks Going for more of a cruiser design really (I don't see it as being a "battleship" per se. This is it as of this morning: Still working out some details, but this is the color I was going for.
  24. Officially, all of the NuTrek shows are within the Prime timeline... that includes Discovery, Picard, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Section 31, and now Starfleet Academy. From Discovery S2 onward, the showrunners have been backpedaling and drafting excuses/explanations for various anachronisms or inconsistencies. The Discovery S1 Klingon makeup is being treated like a cosmetic inconsistency the same way it was when Klingon makeup evolved in TMP and TNG and a subject for in-jokes (as in LDS). Spock and the unmentioned sister problem is being handled via the Sybok clause. Other inconsistencies were handwaved, like the holo-communicator being a "trendy" bit of tech that Starfleet experimented with on and off and never really worked right until the far future. The bridge windows are being treated mostly as a 23rd century design fad that fell out of fashion later on. etc. etc. I know some fans consider the far future parts of Discovery and so on to be a Bad Future timeline. EDIT: Star Trek's creators have been beefing over how military Starfleet really is since Star Trek II, where Gene Roddenberry and Nicholas Meyer squared off over the topic at length and to Gene's considerable dissatisfaction. (Even Gene himself wasn't always consistent about it. One of the alien species created to be background characters in Star Trek: the Motion Picture - the Arcturians - are said to be a highly militaristic species who reproduce entirely by cloning and who cheerfully provide billions-strong armies for the Federation in wartime.) The War College seems to have been introduced in Starfleet Academy to allow the story to tackle the subject of the Federation's militarism in an unusually direct manner. (In past titles, it was usually the domain of an Insane/Corrupt Admiral or Starfleet officers in wartime reflecting that they did not sign up to be soldiers.)
  25. @Chas Cool looking paint on that Valk! @Papa Rat BEAUTIFUL colors on that Junone! @derex3592 All the detail work on the Texas and that B-52 are paying off. They look great with each step! The details especially on the Texas will make it rich looking. @wm cheng The custom metalic finishes on that Zero look beautiful! I'm just starting to get into metalics myself, including powdered micas. @pengbuzz I like the cool mods to the Naboo (or whatever it will be now🙂). You going for a cruiser or battleship looking model design? The Shin Musha Gundam case and parts are getting an upgrade. Hobby Lobby had small bags of 3/16" thick polished marble bits in the marked down section. So I got two. Then some acrylic based grouting to make the base so far. Then the black gun and sword stand is getting an "expansion" to hold the large beam canon and a couple of simulated fire pots for lighting. Made these with scraps and the spare parts box(s). Saturday night worked on this late make Rick Dom II in the living room without paint. It looks great without and details so far! It was a smooth build. And because there are so many cat lovers on the boards, I couldn't resist sharing this: And how cold it is on the East coast this Monday morning... There's an icey glaze on everything! Thanks for checking in everyone! - MT
