Your Most Recent General Toy Purchase - 2024 Edition

It’s a nice color, as with Olson’s. Which just reminds me, Bandai seems to be done with just a single release.- 1147 replies

Never really got into it. To me the trailer doesn’t look much different than the movies from a few years back other than the colors seem a bit different. What were your wife’s complaints?

No EN subs, the official page made that pretty clear. I am expecting a DNR fiasco so I will refrain from buying until it is released. I watched the 35mm presentation in Japan last year and it looked absolutely incredible, the film stock is in extremely good condition.

I'll just pretend in my own headcanon that the DX is a Mark I used in Macross Plus and the Yamato 1/60 is a Mark II used in Macross 7. Either that or I'll just leave the DX in Fighter mode and display it in diffferent angles.

I would have preferred the A-Action Series be alive instead of the Hen Dou Ryoku Series. Not for their prices though.

@SteveTheFish oh yeah time with my kiddo is number 1. I get most of my bench time after they are sound asleep and I work into the late night which can be quite productive. I pay for it the next morning though. Hahaha. I’m a zombie until my morning cup of coffee. Oh and the T-Rex stuffie only shed a little stuffing, is stitched back up and is supposed to make a full recovery. Tonight my kid is building a BB8 Lego and goofing off before bedtime. ♥️

The poop color somehow makes it look less ugly... still ugly nonetheless.

The numbers I quoted were just the thermal pad mod. When he added the cooler his synthetic benchmarks were closer to 17% better. The cooler also didn't make much difference while gaming; he had lower temps, but the CPU wasn't thermal throttling with just the thermal pad. EDIT: Did ZTT only add a thermal pad? Maybe the copper ETA used is the difference. -

A vivisection on a plushie shouldn't be necessary. It's been forever since I lived in America, but I believe you could use a Bounce dryer sheet. Dad and I used to call those "Mom Bombs" when I was growing up because sometimes putting on clothes one might fly out of a sleeve or something. I use a vent filter to get that sort of effect. In fact I used that on the Valkyrie I posted pictures of a week or so ago. Just make sure there isn't a pattern going in one direction and that it's an even pattern. In any case, give your kid a hug for lending you that stuffing. With all the kits you're building one after another, make sure you get plenty of "dad time" clocked in. There's an ebb and flow to parenting, it seems. A few years ago, I used to get a lot more hobby time as my daughter was off in her own world most of the time and I had to give her space. Now that she's nearly 18, she's become a magnet girl again. Sometimes she'll walk into my hobby room and demand I come and flop on the pile of pillows on the floor with her. Hobby time is sacrificed, but by tomorrow she'll be a day older. This is my hobby room/nerd cave. The pile of game pillows has increased since then. https://stevethefish.net/stuff/index.php/2024/08/31/my-nerd-cave-late-at-night-updated-august-2024/ She says my hobby room is relaxing. Did you get the memo about the TPS reports? We need to talk about your TPS reports.

ASrock’s lower end stuff doesn’t seem to cause as many problems like their high-end stuff does. 🤷♂️ And it’s the 9800X3D+870 motherboard that seems to be the most problematic for ASRock. Yeah, he also attached an external liquid cooler. ZipTieTech and a few others just did the thermal pad mod (no additional cooling) and only got a <5% improvement on benchmarks. - Yesterday

So... apparently Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's performance was SO bad that Skydance Paramount has reportedly opted to end the arrangement that gave Secret Hideout exclusive creative control of the franchise. Something they really should have done after Discovery spun in, IMO, but better late than never and I can't imagine many fans will miss them. Which is weird, because the transwarp network was explicitly destroyed at the end of Star Trek: Voyager. Even if some of the Borg conduits survived because the Queen did, albeit in a diminished state, they shouldn't still be around centuries later after the Borg went extinct.

On YouTube, ETA Prime pulled the graphene pad that's stock over the MacBook Neo's internals and cut the section that goes over the A18 out. He then applied some Noctua thermal compound over the A18, then covered it with a strip of copper. On the other side of the copper he used an Arctic TP-3 thermal pad to create a physical connection between the copper and the bottom of the Neo's aluminum chassis. After doing so, he was able to get roughly 10-20% better scores on synthetic benchmarks. For less synthetic results, he was playing No Man's Sky. Totally stock, he was running the game on about medium settings and the Neo would quickly hit 105 degrees and start thermal throttling, resulting in around 30fps. Just by replacing the stock pad with his copper-and-TP3 solution the A18 stayed in the mid-80s, which made throttling unnecessary and netting him nearly 60fps. I don't have any sheets of copper just lying around, but I wonder how long it's gonna be before we start seeing professional kits that do this? Seems like there's a lot of extra performance that can be wrung out of the A18 Pro just with better passive cooling.
