But is he wrong? Look at how some ppl reacted in both threads. Some of them sounded as if they were having a heart attack.

Yeah but the majority of us were just goofing around. I mean having a bunch of people acting like a group of insane wierdo's (which in all fairness is what we were acting like) is always fun to see.

I mean I may get bitch smacked and burnt at a stake while thrown into the Grand canyon but if HG got the rights to DYRL and released a good copy of MACROSS DYRL I'm sure most of us here would get a copy.

If that's just "goofing around", remind me to stay away when you're really mad.

I mean, c'mon people, you go out of your way to come up with new and insulting ways of slagging a show that some other people (such as myself) rather enjoy. Is there any wonder why some tend to take offence?

I can't speak for any others, but I was very close to leaving MW for good due to just how insulting some members here can be. Make no mistake, this site is a great place to get info on another anime I like (Macross Plus), but sometimes I have to wonder whether or not it's actually worth it to put up with the crap that comes with dealing Whining Elitest Macross Fans.

And yes, that term is actually used on other sites, with good reason I might add.

So don't be surprised with some people get pushed too far and start insulting back.

For what it's worth, Weird Al always gets permission from the original artist before making a parody of a song.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.

Except from Coolio, who says his label gave permission without his consent.

As Weird Al says: "Hey, he hasn't returned any of the checks we sent him."

:D

Sad thing about people like Coolio and eminem getting offended by Weird Al's parodies is that they're both too stupid to realize the should be flattered. Weird Al doing parodies of their songs puts them in a class with Nirvana, Queen, Madonna, The Kinks, The Police, and Michael Jackson (back when he was still mostly black, and respected.......um, kind of). Those 6 bands/artists alone are some of the biggest pop icons and influencial artists in the last 4 decades of music.

It'd be like getting offended at someone for nominating them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Morons..... <_<

To add to the only interesting converstation I noticed in this thread:

Rappers seem to think of their music as "too serious" to pariody or what not. Why they think this is quite odd, when, many of them right about the same amoral topic parties or try to turn themselves into suffering marturs instead of giving their music a timeless message and feel. Reason why I ignore it.

btw, kind of finny thing, when Guns and Roses punked Metallica after that concert James Hetfield got injured in, they dropped off the face of the map. When Coolio whined about Weird Al, his "career" went down the toilet as well. Interesting coiencience. ;)

It seems to me that the Japanese don't really care about chara/mecha from one show guest appearing in another.

However, just imagine the fuss in the US, if for example an episode of Star Trek featured an X-Wing. King George would propably throw a fit

Graham

Not true. In Star Trek First Contact, ILM included the CGI model of the Millenium Falcon during the Borg battle at the begining. It's small and you can't see it well unless you have a superbit version of the film playing on a computer monitor, but it's there. ILM was working on the Special Editions of the Star Wars film at the time and included the Falcon as a joke.

No lawsuits followed :)

Owning me? Merely trying to ride me, and your bitch ass better buy me dinner one of these days.

I merely stated is some kind words that if you're going to claim my arguments are unfounded, you should post your evidence that Tokyopop pulled the release due to lack of interest (which would have been contradictiary to their announcement in the first place) and didn't make the whole announcement dissapear due to Big West laying a smack down upon them for improper licensing tactics with HG.

Oh, so you mean it wasn't on the "leaked" cover layout? Gee, something you can only see with superbit and an electron microscope... wow, it's a surprise no lawsuits were thrown around..

Also... as for the excuse -

The whole chat at the gathering was over the artist doing the INVASION series drawing the wrong type of spacecraft and how Tommy caught it in time, before it went to press.

The fact this Illustration got onto the net just goes to show you that no matter how close you supervise that the right items are drawn, occasionally a piece will get through!

If anything Tommy will have some heads rolling at the art studios!!

Seriously... how hard can it possibly be to keep track or which transforming plane mecha might possibly show up in Robotech. There's two. Two freaking "veritechs".

Draw an Alpha or a VF-1... those are your Robotech art options.

Again... some people really think that BW should make a deal with these morons?

Seriously. The options are really limited. Its either a VF-1, Alpha, that boxy looking thin in Southern Cross or the Conbat in the New Generation arc that is only in a still scene. Now had this been a Macross based comic I could see it as a mistake but it isn't Macross based. Its clearly a yf-19, with details. All the characters are Mospeda based. Mistake it was done no. Mistake it was leaked out no. If it was a mistake and caugt before it should have been put away or destroyed. If anything it was done on purpose to get a reaction out of people. The image has been replaced on Wildstorms site so now that yf-19 is removed.

It's not my responsibility to understand Harmony Gold's problems. They give me what I want when I want, or they don't get the money. Harmony Gold always has some excuse for everything. They make big promises, then fall short of the promises, and then they make excuses. They're always like that.

WOW! BEING QUOTED IN A MACROSSWORLD FORUM!

(should I be blushing or fearful? heh JK):p

This reminds me of an illustration Alex Ross did in where he did a storyboard of a commercial that had the new generation star trek cast, drinking beer!

Artists draw pieces that are never meant to be taken as a true representation of things. It provides an artist with practice so they are able to draw anything that might come along. The mistake was in DC COMICS running the piece as part of the description for the upcoming issue.

You are right. When it all comes down to it.... supporting anything other then animation and products is silly. I'm not going to root for a company who happened to make an animation I enjoy. <_<

does it really matter? they can make comic books of any stupid thing they want, macross plus will still be cool.

i dont' think this is worth the level of panty twisting thats going on in this thread... maybe i'm just missing a key point of the argument.

its just a drawing of a valk on a comic book, in my eyes its just not that big of a deal.

Ehh.. it was silly.

I thought Yune's dig at MW was funny. Because it was true.

Even other mechahead sites consider this place to be on the lunatic fringe side.

Ok, maybe not to "Frothing UC Gundamite" levels, but on the fringe anyhow.

And I have to say it aint as bad as a year or so plus ago, but the fact that its STILL going on gives me room to pause....

Ooh....fans of other cartoons don't like us. How will I go on?

And Tommy can take all the shots at us that he likes. It doesn't change the fact that he's an unprofessional punk.

I'm not defending rampant fanboy rage, but of all the fictional franchises I can recall (including Gundam, Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, blah, blah, blah), the Macross fan community is one of the few that actually has something legitimate to complain about. We still complain about the trivialities like other fan communities (the weak films, why this or that sucked, etc), but the legal mess is something worth debate.

I'm not saying it's right or Tommy Yune was wrong to play his joke, but think about it. Ask a question like "Oh Anime...is that the cartoon porn stuff?" to a hardcore fan and most people know full well the type of reaction it will evoke.

If that kind of stuff pops Yune's cork, I guess it's his perogative. I just hope he doesn't expect to be taken seriously next time he feels patronized.

As for the rest, you can see the Falcon on a regular release DVD viewed on a good TV, you just can't see it "well" (note my use of the word). The point is, no lawyers were involved.

Yeah, but it's reasonable to assume that the guys at ILM discussed the inclusion of the Falcon with Lucas first. I'm sure that all involved at both camps were aware of the situation and gave their full blessings, hence a lawsuit was never an issue.

I doubt it, but I can honestly say I don't know the circumstances. Why Lucas would have any input in the work of a 3D modeller working on a Star Trek film is a little bit suspect.

Well it is dude!

Most of the time the mere mention of Robotech tends to throw this place into a tizzy. Which is sad, because when this place isn't freaking out about whatever stupidity HG is doing this week (and it usually is stupid. Not always mind you, but quite often!) it generally kicks ass with a lot of good info and discussions.

Its just Robotech is Macross World's personal Pet Peeve O Doom. Its Kryptonite, if you will.

As someone who does a job involving customer service and public relations I know deep down what Tommy said was not nice. Its also the sort of thing I would LOOOVE to say to the people I deal with. (The customer aint always right. Usually the customer is an asshat.)

The Robotech angst here is the reason I keep popping in and out of here over the last 2-3 years or so. It generally gets to a point where I realize its best to go take a break and not start screaming and yelling over it because to do so would be stupid. (I still think I have a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from a certain poster who is no longer among us.. :) )

So my point is: Stop worrying about HG since it doesn't help matters any and have fun instead. And if they DID do something like pop the 19 on an official cover without any BW ok, get em since they would deserve it.

(This would be the point where we all start singing that 70s Candle Coke commercial or something..)
