Meh....still going to see it on the big screen....then Fantastic 4.....also will catch the latest Jurassic Park movie on a matinee or 5 dollar AMC tuesday.... There's actually more that the usual summer flicks that I'm interested this summer.... Quote

Although there’s some competition as well that might be an issue. I guess we’ll find out soon Quote
Thom Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Will be popping in to see it next Tuesday. I hope it's good, as me and critics (ie, people paid to tell me their opinion) often differ. Quote

Now, a film must score a 8/10 or equivalent with good word of mouth if its expects me to shell out $70 to $100 (or more) for a movie date night with my wife. Quote

Thom Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I'd take this as them trying to sell off as much as possible before people start seeing the movie, which is not good. If it was good I'd think they'd want to hold off and build anticipation fueled by good reviews. Quote

Might be more to do with modern audiences and the whole streaming thing taking out the disc market. Kinda like they gotta get those preorders out long before the thing is just free and nobody cares anymore. Quote
Shawn Posted July 12 Posted July 12 I saw it tonight and thought it was great. Luthor is a bit annoying, but otherwise it was a fun movie, it didn't take itself too seriously at all. If you give it a chance you might have a good time Quote
troyness Posted July 12 Posted July 12 I thought it was average. I can't really remember what happened in it. No memorable scenes. Saw it opening day here in Australia. Great to see a mix of generations in the audience. Alot of kids turned up to watch (although it's school holidays atm) Was hoping it would create a new generation of fans. Australian audiences can be tough to entertain. Silence through out the movie and upon leaving. Quote
jvmacross Posted July 12 Posted July 12 (edited) Just saw it. It's ok....not the kind of movie you'd be counting on to reboot a franchise. There really was just one major change to the Superman lore....it really did nothing to make me rethink the character. The only thing that I really think did and will make a difference in this "rebooted" DC universe is that apparently the need for "origin" movies are no longer needed? It certainly forces you to just go in with an open mind and just hope the characters can make things "work". For the most part, they did for me....however, I was left wondering the most about Mr. Terrific. To me he seemed the most interesting new character that I wish I knew a little more about. He apparently was sort of like an Iron Man, where his powers are all derived via tech. Spoiler Based on the brief Supergirl cameo, that movie is going to have a very different tone....almost full on comedic....but who knows In short, an ok movie but it just seems like a very low key franchise reboot....only time will tell if it all works....tbh....I take that back....Creature Commandos was technically the first offering for the new DCU....and it was better overall IMO than Superman...that also had a bunch of characters I knew nothing about...but it all worked...at least for me... Dynaman Posted July 12 Posted July 12 At this point anyone needing an origin movie for Superman - is not going to see a Superman movie anyway. Planning on seeing it next weekend, no other big releases coming up till the 25th so hopefully still in Imax, a regular theater if not. Quote

Of course, Superman doesn’t need one at this point....I was referring to characters like Mr. Terrific....in Creature Commandos they at least gave enough of a background for the characters to be able to just go with it...it also helped they had more time to do so since it was a series....in either case, it wasn't the biggest problem with this movie....the biggest problem was that it was just "ok" for being the more general audience reboot for the DCU... I don't know if I'd rate it that low, but otherwise I agree with this take. It very much felt like the sort of plot that could have been a multi-part episode of the Justice League. It wasn't bad, I'd go so far as to say that I wound up liking the casting a good bit, but it lacked any real nuance (my wife even complained that even if she could buy that Luthor was that much of a megalomaniacal villain, she couldn't believe that all those people working for him would just go along with his scheme), and it was lacking in a cinematic, summer blockbuster feel that The Avengers movies had. Tking22 Posted Monday at 02:48 PM Posted Monday at 02:48 PM I saw it Saturday and enjoyed it overall, a bit bloated, maybe a few too many characters, overly ambitious for a first new-universe film, but enjoyable overall. Quote

Honestly, I hadn’t ever heard of this character before the previews. Seems he was a character that didn’t pop up till the late 90’s when most people dipped out of comic collecting. I don’t think I had read anything DC since 92 or 93 Quote
