Major Focker
ah, simple enough to make sense. wondering though if prior gunpods found this necessary too. now thinking about michel's, it's been mentioned somewhere that those X things are supposed to be stabilizers. those stabilizers cannot deploy while in fighter mode. do they close on the barrel completely (doesn't make sense if it did)? have we seen michel firing the gunpod in fighter mode? or does he rely on other mounted guns? just curious. Graham
We haven't seen Michael fire his Sniper rifle in fighter mode yet. I'm wondering if like Breara's rifle, Michael's has the capability to fire on full-auto, or rapid semi-auto, but at a reduced power level? Even if Michael's rifle can't fire in fighter mode, he still has his wing root/hip guns as back up. Graham
grss1982
OK so episode 12 has been out for days, but I have'nt seen anyone raise eyebrows at Alto's VF-25 suddenly having a backseat? Magic??? Even Mikhail's VF had a fracking backseat. I mean check this out: No silhoutte of backseat seen: http://i27.tinypic.com/301kdv8.jpg Backseat later on in episode: http://i27.tinypic.com/5we4qp.jpg NOTE: if viewed from the side you should theoritically see the silhoutte of the backseat. I mean what's up with that. BTW, pics were taken from Random Curiosity. Edited June 30, 2008 by grss1982

Maybe the rear seat it stowed and can be deployed when needed, possibly to carry a second crewman when the mission calls for it?
Alex SDU
Hi everybody! This is my 1st post in Macross World. I've been monitoring this website for years now before finally I was able to register recently... Anyway, back to business; Like d3v said, I think the rear seat can be stowed, much like YF-19, if I not mistaken. Graham Maybe the gunpod fire like regular gunpod in fighter mode with the exception of lower rate of fire, perhaps. Beside, the stabilizer only use for...well, stabilize the gunpod during sniping. Well, that just me 5 cents opinion. BTW, is that Zentraedi soldier at the right of the pic wearing a glasses?
d3v
BTW, is that Zentraedi soldier at the right of the pic wearing a glasses? Reading porno mags the size of your toenails can do that to you. Edited June 30, 2008 by d3v
Kelsain
Maybe the rear seat it stowed and can be deployed when needed, possibly to carry a second crewman when the mission calls for it? Or maybe it's a module that can be fitted easily into the cockpit. Perhaps Mikhail had the module swapped from his VF into Alto's for Ranka's trip home. Then he would follow behind with Sheryl's ship using the standard fold systems.

d3v
BTW, another thing just popped into my mind. Is the backseat also an Ex-Gear??? I don't think so, in one of the pics you posted earlier, you can clearly see that EX-Gear's shoulders on the front seat, while the rear one doesn't seem to have any. azrael
We haven't seen Michael fire his Sniper rifle in fighter mode yet. I'm wondering if like Breara's rifle, Michael's has the capability to fire on full-auto, or rapid semi-auto, but at a reduced power level? The VF-27's seems more akin to a greneider-style rifle (i.e. your choice of rifle + grenade launcher). I would say Mikhail's rifle fires only semi-auto. Full-auto would seem somewhat hap-hazard for a sniping-based rifle.
Kronnang Dunn
I believe those long thingies the Qs are equipped with are reaction missles, not fast packs. Of course... That's what I've been saying all along... I want to see the Zentradi Marines blow the Vajra away with those reaction warheads... Mr March
The YF-19 also had a second seat that was not deployed most of the time, so the VF-25 Messiah's second seat isn't exactly something new. David Hingtgen
I've also always wondered if cockpit canopies in Macross still use traditional glass or some type of strengthened plastic or what not. Modern canopies are *amazingly* flexible when hit. If you ever find footage of an F-16 or F-22 bird-strike test, you'll be impressed. (They have the most advanced canopies of any fighter---F-35 should be the same) :;edit:: Found it--watch and wonder how they make this stuff:

I will check 4chan regularly for more pics like that one... it looks like the art work they put into the model boxes Yes... I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the artist posted it in 4chan for feedback... Who knows? I just hope I find more mecha art like that soon. I want the Q-Rheas, the Vajra (large and small) and the Monster!!! UN Spacy
Alto's original VF-25F (b/f episode 7) was always a one seater. Right? Is it still considered a VF-25F now that it's a two seater?
Kurisama
it looks like the art work they put into the model boxes Hmm.. I disagree there - doesn't look like Tenjin's art style at all - sure maybe at passing glance - but it definately isn't. Maybe it's a draft version, or a half way stage to the final image. Still it's nice art.

The F-16 and F-22 are exceptions in that their canopies don't have the usual front/rear division meaning that they usually have to be blown completely off before the pilot can eject. Mr March
dont see any difference? Whoops, sorry about that. I corrected the second link. These are just links to material that's already on the Macross Mecha Manual, so should I fumble posting links on occasion you can just look under the line art section of the YF-19 profile in the Macross Plus section of the site. ChronoReverse
In an atmosphere, wouldn't canards and wing surfaces be more important? Remember Milia and the VF-11 design? I'd imagine that the VF-27 could brute force its way with the said 3D thrust vectors, but it does seem a bit unaerodynamic.
d3v
I'm more concerned about the weight of the thing and how that affects its manueverability in a planetary environment.
Master Dex
I doubt it is any heavier than the VF-25. However I have wondered if it loses life because of the big engines in the middle of the wings. In the 27's case it is making up for lack of vertical stabilizers with the 3D thrust vectoring. I think the 27 does have canards (4 of them it seems) though so that shouldn't be a problem. However we do have to remember the VF-27 seems more designed for anti-ship and search and destroy missions rather than air/space superiority like the VF-25 so it may not fare as well as it seems (unless Brera and his mental interface can compensate). Agreed, the fact that the VF-25 was more than a match for it in episode 9 makes me think that the erratic movemetns that it can do are more for dodging large volumes of anti-aircraft fire than dogfighting.
