Sousei no Aquarion.

Haha saw ep2 and laughed at that bit. :D

Such a whore. There will probably be many Hdoujin mangas made featuring her and the orgasming transformation sequence. Shame we didn't get to see the blue robot in this episode.. :(

What do you mean "probably" Go up to K-books in Osaka and look at the display by the counter on the 4th floor. Not that I regularly shop on the 4th floor, just saying hypotheticaly that if there were any, thats the spot to find them at ;)

Episode 2 was pretty interesting. I think it's quite clear the emotions and feelings they are feeling when they combine. :) I wonder if it's simply because of Apollo is combing with her that her feeling is so intense or cause the others seem to be feeling the same appear to be more in control and just not pushed as much. Or it could be an age thing. Anyway I didn't expect the whole thing between Toma and Aplloinus(sp?). Talk about your interesting love triangles, rectangle, etc.

Though I'm liking how Apollo's past self keeps appearing the way he does. Silva's past life just automaticly reponded as well. I wonder if we'll have Apollo himself piloting the Vector Sol soon. I hope so from the looks of things for episode 3. Really curious as to what Apollo's elemental power is.

The vf-0+ Ghost combination was pretty cool if you want to talk about mecha combination in Macross, The sound boosters in macross zero are probably the closest thing but total crap.

I'd like to see a Vf-22 + Ghost X-9 :o

I'd like Aquarion so far . you haven't to see it if you don't like.

How many episodes are planned?

I watched the first two episodes yesterday and came away surprised. For most of the first episode I was thinking EVA meets Voltron meets all the new "let's scream my next attack" anime. I like the slick animation and the CG is pretty decent, kind of reminds me of the new transformers series. The second episode was definitely more interesting. Some spoilerish questions:

Is that chick a vampire???

She had an orgasm when they linked up??? Does that mean he's getting it on with the other guy in some way?

Toma-san and the other guy were boyfriends? WTF?

Overall, I'd say it's intriguing and I'll probably keep watching it.

I *REALLY* wanna see how official subs are gonna translate that phrase, lol... almost anybody remotely familiar with Japanese culture and language knows what "iku" means when shouted out in a setting like THAT...

this anime is really wrought full of sexual innuendos... threesomes too <_<

So far it's looking up to be pretty interesting though.. then again, I also thought Candidate for Goddess was cool, so I'll wait and see.

Cliche isn't a bad thing but even then I don't think that Aquarion so far suffers from that. Sure it has some similar things but so does nearly ever other show. It's what happens when you develop a story, certain things tend to go certain ways, it's what you do after that and how you tell a story is what is important.

Exactly. I pity those who say that they kinda liked it but it was so full of cliché they'll skip it.

But then, I consider Kawamori almost a niche artist in that his works may be liked by many, but his name is not always that famous, and not all fans can tell all the anime he worked in, nor they are interested in see them.

Who says a show has to be completely original to do well or even to be interesting anyway?

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction." Albert Einstein.

I think it's called "pornography of violence". Sometimes it is anime fandom's soft spot. Many other anime can be better than Aquarion, but what about anime less violent than Aquarion?

I don't think people are actually interested in originality. They are interested in the "bigger, more complex and more violent". Macross 7 was based on an original idea, a main character that doesn't kill anybody, but not all people like it (and indeed it has its flaws). Originality is good as long as it doesn't take out anime fans' usual entertainment.

Why can't a show or show creator give viewers what they actually want to see even if it might be cliche in some parts(which all shows suffer from I believe)? Or do what they actually want to see and make a show that is just enjoyable and has a decent story?

I don't think Aquarion is such a show. It is made for entertainment purpose exactly like others, but it has a superior quality. And yes, it has even scenes that will be remembered in a lot of doujinshi ;)

I watched the first episode, but I had alot of trouble letting it sink in cause the subbies went blazing fast at moments.

The graphics aren't bad, the animation is interesting. And in one of the last few scenes, you get a quick shot of Apollo Cel-shaded 3D style.

I wish the opening would appear, its starting to bug me now, its got a snappy song but they didn't play it till near the end.

I'll check out Episode 2 when I get home tonight. But I think I can get use to it, but Shoji seems to be loosing credibility in my opinion....he knows how to make an object turn into a robot.....but now he's just in the giant Gekiganger robot mood.

It's a franchise, a bandai one at that. They had games, toys. models, etc all planned out way before it started airing.

Eureka's 7 only just started over the weekend and there was an article on Zincpanic.com a few weeks ago stating that bandai had sneakers planned for release that were styled after the main characters.

But I don't mind if it means quality toys from Bandai, that's what they're good at.

If they renamed this Gundam Aquarion and called the vectors "top fighter", "core fighter" and "bottom fighter", mass produced them in a war (super robots vs super villains) and got rid of the bright coloring then it would be cliche.

Variations on a tired theme = original. :D

Bring on the blue robot!

While most people already judged the show before it came out (from the earlier threads and the "WTF" sub-topic), I'm glad I was pleasantly surprised that I was right not to judge the show before it was out. I think this will be a splendid series. But it may fall short to expectations as well since its shaping up to be pretty epic. <_<

Love the animation so far....so great it is that I wonder if they can sustain this for a full 13 or 26 episodes anime. Its really surprising because animation of this quality is usually reserved for OVAs or movies. To make more than 5 episodes of this caliber could cost ALOT....but that's from Bandai's deep pockets...so i guess its possible.

This episode is even better than the ep02. :D

1. OP is available and it is sweet

2. 2 new characters introduced, one of them is a girl.

3. More character developement

4. The second form of Aquarion is shown in this episode.

5. Last but not least... more "adulty" scene... (with some Girl Love attached to it)

Saw episode 02. Friggin' awesome. I am totally sold. This is the Macross of the new millennium, literally. Just like Macross was some kind of fusion of Gundam and Yamato and then some, Aquarion is some kind of fusion of Evangelion and Getter Robot, and then some. This considering that actually most of the things seen are references to Kawamori's previous anime. Atlantis and angels were more a reference to Escaflowne, and Thoma is more Folken (of the Escaflowne movie) than Kaworu.

I found this anime almost unbearably classy and stylish, plus it has a budget like it was funded by Japan's main bank (even better than Macross Zero. How they did it it's out of my understanding), Yoko Kanno's music and it's quite packed, filled to the trim. It does even dare some sexual allusions. It puzzles me why people who were exposed to Shinji Ikari's clones rantings all these years now would reject an anime where all the characters have psychic powers and they use them to beat each other all the time. Despite common mythical references between the two anime, Apollo and Shinji Ikari don't share nothing, and I actually regret this nothing includes even the beating Apollo was subjected to.

Aquarion blew my mind. :o:o:o

I would have thought Macross Zero would be the "Macross of the new millennium, literally".

Anyway, episode three didn't do much for me because of the comparitively sub-par animation and the annoying new characters. And that scene with the girl's heart almost blowing up was kinda gross.

Seeing the blue robot in action was pretty cool, though. Look out, mummy, he's got a sword! Swooshie! :p

Yeah, there are a lot of Esca similarities. I particularly thought that they'd pulled another Escaflowne on us at the end of ep. 2 when Aquarion turns all black.

Oh yes, the DX Chogokin is looking seriously sweet.

So many little details like the opening petals on Aquarion Lunas backpack (Solars legs) and each mode looks like it has full articulation.

Kawamori must have spent a very long time working on this design to enable Bandai to replicate it so well.

My only concern is just how "functional" Lunas bow will be. :p

Check out this other pic from a Japanese event that was posted by Bizzio on toyboxdx.com

I´m SOOOOOOOOOOOO getting this toys , at least a kawamori toy that´s getting all the Bandai love Macross never recieved ;)

I see Aquarion as the final synthesis between macross , escaflowne and arjuna , with the added bonus of being a combinig mecha show. You can argue every single anime out today resembles EVA , that´s what eva-haters and lovers alike whish to think , but Aquarion is definitively more akin to escaflowne but with a less femenine touch ( that was my impression from escaflowne seeing the protagonist was a female ).

Anyway , I´m really liking this series but it still lacks more substance let´s hope it gets deeper and darker as more episodes are released

The h4ters will probably end up buying the toys anyway. They look awesome. I wish they showed pics of it transforming. I'm interested to see how it all connects together. (both the lego and finished toy, and in all three robot forms) I'm not that huge a fan of combining robots myself, but I'm a fan of the ships. Thier flashiness in robot mode looks a little funny but they look good in fighter mode. (like something out of Gradius games)
