  1. I went to see this yesterday with the family. For some reason, I went into the theater assuming that it was going to be a hot mess of CGI. I guess I wasn't paying attentiong to the teasers and previews. Whatever the case, I was pleased to be so very, very wrong. The stop-motion work is great, and the CGI effects that are present merely enhance the Legos used in each scene. I was really into the look from beginning to end. And that is saying a lot since I was in a big room filled with a bunch of kids. So how is this as a family film? My niece was with us and she is in middle school now. There were plenty of kids her age in the theater with us, as well as a bunch of smaller children. I think everyone enjoyed seeing the Legos come to life on the big screen; however, there are a number of pop-culture references that set the jokes throughout. Older kids and adults were into these but the younger kids missed them. If your child is wise in the ways of geekdom, then this will be an excellent film. If not, but they do like Legos, then it should be pretty cool. As for the rest: Oh, and that voice cast was most impressive. Well done! Wow. Really? Whoever was doing that voice was spot on.
  2. Indeed, the fatigue got to me. I broke down and purchased a VF-25F renewal off of Mandarake. This will be my first VF-25 and I was also curious about Mandarake after hearing about all the good deals.
  3. Ergo Proxy presents a very interesting sci-fi conspiracy. It does takes its time world building, though. Also, the split focus between the two main characters can be confusing if you are not into the plot. It is one of my favorite anime series, but I do tend to enjoy the philosophical, noir, cyberpunk stuff. And I can see how it's not to everyone's taste. Wikipedia does have this interesting note from the writer, Dai Satō: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ergo_Proxy
  4. I received a payment notification for my Megahouse Okita last night. I'm looking forward to seeing the figure in person.
  5. I gave Aquarion about the same five episodes before quitting it.
  6. I'm still very much a pre-order newbie. I missed out on HLJ too. Anyway, the Ozma YF-29 custom is on my watch list at Amiami. I'll try again when it is released.
  7. LoL! Hell Yeah! I already have an Isamu custom YF-29, but I missed the VF-25 releases. A VF-25S reissue would be fantastic.
  8. I finished Mardock Scramble: The Third Exhaust earlier this week. It was an impressive trilogy, with only a slight slow down during the events of The Second Combustion. The trilogy is a gritty, mature, cyberpunk anime, and it is no clone of Shirow Masamune's Ghost in the Shell. That said, I do think anyone who has enjoyed Mamoru Oshii's GitS movies will probably enjoy the Mardock Trilogy. Rune Ballot is an excellent main character and watching her relationship with Dr. Easter and the enigmatic Oeufcoque change throughout as she became a stronger person was touching. The Third Exhaust brings with it some surprising character development, a nice bit of action, as well as an end to the casino plot (I thought the second movie could have done more with this, but that is a minor gripe). Amazon.com notes that the domestic US release for this on blu is scheduled for March: http://www.amazon.com/Mardock-Scramble-Third-Exhaust-Blu-ray/dp/B00GY3S6LW However, the Japanese release is already available and that includes subtitles.
  9. ^^ Good advice. I do not think anyone here would patronize anyone else because they couldn't afford something. If they do, forget about them. These are pieces of plastic we're talking about after all, and as fun as they are to mess around with, there is more to life than getting frustrated over who has what and who can afford what. Be happy with what you have. And if you have friends that share your interests, then all the better. Also, there are other members on this site who know how to find good deals and who will share that information from time to time. Sometimes getting the best price takes patience and observation, and a willingness to hear what other people are saying. Anyway, enough of that soapbox. I would love to pick up a VF-4G myself someday.
  10. I missed the first-day pre-order madness as well, but i do not regret it. Part of me wants to wait until the standard release, mostly to see if Bandai teases us with more news of another Ozma VF-25S release. The other part of me wants to hover around HLJ's site to see if a "late" pre-order pops up there.
  11. Where are people watching this show outside of Japan? I'm in the U.S. and I noticed that Funimation is streaming Space Dandy with subtitles, which I prefer. Is Toonami the only other legitimate broadcast and is that dub only?
  12. Whatever it is, and I'm not doubting any speculation, I just want Arcadia to knock it out of the park.
  13. I have an older version of that Asus router dwc mentioned, the RT-N66U, and can confirm that it is rock solid. I use the custom asuswrt-merlin firmware which adds extra options over the stock firmware. I find it useful since I'm into tweaking things. The wired ports are gigabit ports. For wireless, coverage is excellent throughout my house. It is an older structure with plaster walls and lathe, which I thought would be problematic but it turned out to be a non issue in my situation. Wireless N performance is better than Wireless G performance, which is average. That may be something you want to plan around if you have a bunch of legacy wireless devices using the 2.4GHz band. I cannot speak to the wireless AC performance on the newer models, but I have read good things. The GUI is user-friendly and quite visual. You can choose to drill down into the advanced features or not. Smallnetbuilder has a forum with a nice community in case you need any help. As for what I run on the router, I have the following wired devices: one desktop, one htpc, one voip box, one cable modem, one whole-house gigabit network switch. My wireless devices include an eReader, an iPhone, my writing laptop, one wireless console, and room for guests to use the network when they visit. This means I can have well over 10 devices connected at any one time.
  14. I've been enjoying Kill La Kill, and that means this Matoi Ryuko figure is very tempting.
  15. It is a promising alternate universe, mythological narrative. I'm enjoying it so far. And the mecha do remind me of Escaflowne as well. That's a very good thing!
  16. This news is a couple days old already, but BBTS is advertising a second run of of Red Alert later this year: http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TAK11798&mode=retail I do hope that there is more of a general release this time, but I won't complain if it is a limited reissue either. For now, my pre-order is in. Red Alert is one of the few G1 toys that I still have in my collection and it will be nice to get the Masterpiece version eventually.
  17. I started watching Wizard Barristers on Crunchyroll. The show has me hooked and reminds me of what would happen if someone mashed up Boston Legal with Someday's Dreamers and then added a double portion of action for good measure.
  18. Indeed. I have halogen lights set in the candelabra in the dining room where I took those photos. The pink hue in the bright Arcadia white does stand out there, especially with both Roys side-by-side. I agree that lighting is a factor, though, because it isn't as obvious in the room where I display them (that room has better controlled lighting).
  19. All I can say is that I'm glad the canopy still has a tint! Seriously, though, this version looks good.
  20. Getting a complete Sound Force squadron with the VF-11MAXL and the VF-17T Nightmare Custom would be choice in my opinion. Getting back to those uncanny Macross Zero sculpts would also be a big win too, though. Heh, whatever it is, I'm hooked.
  21. I hadn't even realized the pink was intentional until it was mentioned here. I thought it was a QC issue with the way the white was mixed together. I've had bad luck with QC issues on a few imports of late, and I'm happy I'm not the only one affected but I hope that this can be improved down the line at some point. It is distracting. Edit: Also, I took some photos tonight to illustrate what I see when comparing the green Arcadia visor to the green Yamato v2.0 visor: Arcadia Roy left, Yamato Roy right Yamato Roy left, Arcadi Roy right I used the same ambient room lighting for both photos. The only difference was where I placed the figures. I think the Arcadia visor is more translucent and does more with the light in the room. This makes it seem brighter to me. The bright white of the Arcadia Roy might also be helping with the contrast. I hope this helps those who are wondering about it.
  22. I think the visor is a lighter green than the v2.0 Yamato. At least, it seems to do a better job of catching ambient light and showing off the color.
  23. That would be fantastic if they can work out a deal to bring more of the merchandise overseas.
