  1. ^Yes. The instrument panel is now a little different. There seems to be black fill with white outlines for the instruments and green lines with black fill for the center screen. It's hard to see in my cell phone picture, but there are also yellow accents along the top and bottom. I think the new panel has more depth than the original v2.0 inverted white panel. I attached a quick and dirty cell phone photo that should give enough detail, albeit blurry.
  2. As always, an impressive build-up with a hard punch at the end. Great episode!
  3. I cannot tell if my Arcadia Roy 1S has a crooked skull. The delta doesn't seem to be as wide as when everyone was comparing the crooked skulls on the 1/48 line with the skulls on Yamato's 1/60 v2.x releases. I'm happy to be ignorant of it. However, my Arcadia Roy 1S does have a couple minor paint blemishes that my Yamato 1S does not have. There was a tiny paint chip on one tail fin that I'll need to fix with some matte black, and there is a blemish in the white paint in the same area. Since manufacturing defects are a roll of the dice, and I had to hunt for these, I'm not ranking them on my list of big deals. Arcadia high points The new paint scheme -- I was on the fence with this one until I was able to see the toy in person. I really like the change. Better tampo inside the cockpit -- My Yamato v2.0 has an odd white/green HUD, for instance. Better gummy pilot -- Arcadia's pilot looks to have better paint detail than my Yamato pilot (luck of the draw?) A solid transformation -- This may be because the Arcadia 1S is new or that I have a Yamato 1S without option parts... Yamato high points Rainbow canopy on certain versions -- If Arcadia could make a tinted canpy work, I would love to see it return. More tampo on the fighter -- Yeah, I miss the ejection seat tampo too. Overall, I am quite happy with Arcadia's release. I'll be picking up Hikaru from the post office later on this morning.
  4. +1 preorder I think Amiami has decent shipping costs. That is, shipping to the U.S. is competitive when researching domestic prices. I also like how both CDJapan and Amiami have a point system for returning shoppers.
  5. The promotional image for this new box set on the front page looks different than the hybrid pack BD box set. I am in for the official English subtitles alone, but if there are any new extras or even a new box (as suggested in the photo), then that's even better. Basically, I won't mind having both releases.
  6. I warmed up to the TV-white DYRL look after I saw the new Roy VF-1S in person. It's a good look! I received my payment request from amiami early this morning. I had to update my details, though, so I am waiting for them to send along a new invoice before I finalize this purchase.
  7. Yeah, I do have my EMS tracking number, although NY did not send it in the "shipped" or "in transit" messages. When I click on "details" for the order at the site, there is a link above the order number that directs me to Japan Post and all the information is available there.
  8. eriku: Nippon-Yasan sent a bunch of messages my way last night and early this morning. According to the time stamps, it took about two hours for the status to move from "preparation" to "package in transit". I had switched the computer off last night so I missed them all until I logged in later today. The new white look is pretty nice in those pictures. I'm also wondering how it compares to Yamato's previous releases.
  9. Yeah, no news on my nippon yassan order either.
  10. The transforming helciopter/gunship is nice, so Whirl is okay by me. The new triple changers (starting with Springer) have been pretty decent---and the lower price gives my wallet a break.
  11. Is Dessler really more of a patriot in the original series, though? Once The Yamato crew learns about the state of Gamilon and Iscandar in both versions, Earth and Gamilon are forced into that final standoff. In both versions, the Yamato aims for the capitol to take down Dessler and minimize civilian casualties. However, Dessler's actions are different, and there is the coup in 2199. In the original, I thought Dessler's cool, calculating demeaner broke at the end and he turned into a madman in his pursuit against the Yamato. If I remember correctly, it was Dessler's order to drop the planetary defenses onto Gamilon itself. In 2199, I thought he never lost his calculating demeaner, and continued to use his subordinates right up until the end. The wave motion gun incident in 2199 is a reflection of what happened in the original, but it was something the Yamato was able to defend against. In 2199 there seems to be less of a fall in Dessler's character, and that will be a very intersting footnote if they continue with the Comet Empire story.
  12. I just caught up with episode 20 and 21 yesterday... I'm going to be the voice of dissent on episode 20; I don't think it was all that moving. I actually thought the events of episodes 7 through 10 were more dramatic this season, while also giving a unique take on the characters and setting other events in motion. Episode 20 felt more like a reprisal to me: Episode 21 was the better of the two and brought new character development into the story. I'm looking forward to what comes next.
  13. And the rules set in The Deadly Assassin were not even hard and fast in the classic series. Remember The Five Doctors? The Time Lords were prepared to use the power of Rassilon to give the Master a complete set of regenerations during that episode. Anyone getting upset about the number of regenerations needs to take a deep breath and remember it's just a story. The rules change to satisfy the plot. We even got thosed funky fob watches to make the Doctor and the Master human! Also, I thought Day of the Doctor was pretty clear on one point: Now, I wouldn't be surprised if Moffat has something else up his sleeve, but I don't think it is the end of the world either.
  14. Bravo! One of the things I really enjoy about Moffat's take on Doctor Who is how well he weaves together the classic show with the new series. It was also very nice seeing John Hurt again in a Sci-Fi role without something bursting out of his chest. The cameos (in the preview and the episode) were just thick timey-wimey icing on an already well dressed cake. Still...
  15. When I started building dedicated PCs (gaming, home theater, and so on), I got out of consoles. My last console was the Wii, oddly enough, and now I can emulate all of the games I bought for it and still play them on my TV. I can even use the wiimote, if I wish to. I do the same emulation thing with a small library of PS2 favorites that I picked up. The rest of my gaming is dedicated to the PC. The only time I get any console gaming in is when I visit with friends. For me, this is the right mix, because I have a tremendous gaming backlog already (Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Dragon Age, and so on). If I added the entire last generation or started fresh with this generation, I would be collecting games instead of playing them.
  16. Shadow: I'm running an Ivy Bridge system, which shares basically the same specs above as your proposed 3570k Ivy build with 8GB of system memory. I do have an older GTX 460 that I am in the process of upgrading. The only other difference is that I use a small SSD as my OS drive and a 1TB HDD for data. If you don't mind managing your installation, I would recommend a configuration like that. The other option is a hybrid drive. I have no personal experience with them, but I have heard good things about them. My system runs all my games with maximum detail at 1600x1200 resolution. Yeah, my next big PC upgrade will be a new widescreen monitor. I'm looking at what is available in the 27" range... To me, the question of Haswell vs Ivy Bridge is more about what deal you can get today than about performance. If you are looking at both and a Haswell build costs as much as an Ivy Bridge build, then go Haswell. If you are not into overclocking, also remember to look at the non-k CPUs. Buying one of those can save you about $10.
  17. DG2099: I can only comment on Kill la Kill; here are my thoughts:
  18. You said it, Falcon18. There will be other Arcadia releases. And even if future Valkyries are too expensive, then a person can contribute to this community in other ways. There is other merchandise, there are custom projects, modeling kits, and artwork, there are forum members simply looking for help day by day. Picking one and setting aside that time seems to be an easy way to pay it back to me, especially if the other stuff is out of reach. Those who can do more than one thing are pretty cool in my book. Personally, I've been in that place where I had to stop a lot of stuff I enjoyed because my finances couldn't maintain my hobbies. I missed out on all the Yamato releases from 2010 or so because of it. Am I upset at the people here because I had to focus on other important things like bills and basic necessities? Not at all. Life happens, and with luck things turn around. And now I'm not lurking today. So that's my story in a nutshell.
  19. Indeed. I'm not sure I would call that Israeli Assault Rifle a toy, but whatever. It's good to have a hobby.
  20. Not-Slag looks very nice in that promo shot. I was waffling on my Grimlock preorder, but will hold onto it now with this news. I didn't have either Grimlock or Slag as a kid. I had Swoop and Sludge.
  21. Oh, what a tease! That was a fantastic eight-minute episode, and now I'm thinking of what could have been if history had been just a little bit different all those years ago. If McGann is available and the BBC is willing to make it so, I would definitely watch a prequel or extended mini series in some format.
  22. Scyla: That's a great idea. I still need the Sound Booster for my VF-19 Kai. I'll check out angolz to see if they have any left. I bought Jaguar and Frumble Red from Robotkingdom. They have a good price for the set---better than most retailers nowadays. However, I have yet to buy from Madarake...
  23. Please excuse the messy table. I have some eBay auctions ending this week, and it is loaded with packaging materials. The Yamato VF-17S arrived with the Super Parts today. I picked up both of these items from hkcollectibles. Soundwave's cassettes arrived last week. MP-10B arrived a week before that, and the Gurren Lagann box set a week before that (Hm, I guess that last one doesn't rate as a toy; still, I got a good deal at amazon.jp).
  24. I was able to sneak out to a late show of this. Around here, it is still drawing a good crowd, which is nice to see. I also thought it was a very good adaptation of the book. I think it is one of the better book to movie adaptations that I have seen in some time.
