  1. I'm confused. What is the real difference, besides the price and the availability to Japanese retailers? Are the Takara Transformers actually made in a different location (for instance, Japan versus Vietnam)? Or are they made in the same location but with different teams of workers? For instance, Takara releases get the seasoned factory veterans with better tools and equipment and Hasbro releases get the rookies with only sufficient equipment.
  2. That's really good news. Thanks for the link! I started the show early, but got sidetracked along the way. Since the Disney news, I have been waiting before investing more time into this series again. Now that it looks like they can get a real ending in place, I'm going to start where I left off. LoL! I have a lot of catching up to do.
  3. Like David, I haven't been looking at the kickstarter page carefully and missed the recent revisions. It's worth noting that $50 is still decent for a mulit-disc, no-frills blu-ray that one could buy from on-line stores in the U.S. However, it would be nice to have a lower $35 basic tier to get more backers and then create higher tiers that somehow make the kickstarter release more exclusive than the general $50 release. Maybe they could even limit the $35 tier to zero day supportes only. Then those buying the basic set will have an opportunity to get a discount and those coming into it later can go basic for $50 or buy into the higher tiers to get something nice with the blu-rays and DVDs. I think those kind of kickstarters work best in the long run, but that is just my opinion. It seems that Animeigo has only a few incentives to draw people in right now. Here are things that I noticed that concern me: They are using limited cell art from a personal collection. That's a real sacrifice, but why go to those lengths? Does Animeigo (the company) have general access to its own limited cells so that we can have other notable characters in the higher tiers? To me this seems as though they are downplaying the popularity of a U.S. release. As a backer, I want to see confidence from day one. The revised page notes that a soundtrack option is possible, but going down that route would sacrifice the music videos? Why? That was confusing to me. A kickstarter allows one to budget out possible tiers, why not budget out the soundtrack and the music videos? I think they are getting locked down with too many of the fine details on the Animeigo forum. They need to shoot for the stars first. I think the higher tiers need more incentives. And this is where I agree with JetJockey. Having something else included, like a figure or an artbook or a designer boxset would help me to jump in at a higher level. Although, I understand that sometimes the balance of money, timing, and licensing can be tricky. Anyway, random thoughts...
  4. Thanks! My preorder is in. Okita is such a definitive character and I like the first-release bonus that comes with this figure.
  5. It does take a while, even when everything is working. And that makes me wonder if there is a softsub option avialable? I was reading in the Frontier thread that some members simply re-time subtitles to whatever format they have on hand and then use their favorite player, like mpc-hc or vlc to play the video back with subtitles. That seems like a nice way to do it when upgrading to blu-ray. Although, I have to admit that just popping in the DVDs is really convenient.
  6. Great news. I still have G1 Swoop and Sludge and they could use a leader.
  7. Realistically, that is better than I had hoped. And they recovered all but one episode from Nicholas Courtney's first story with the Doctor! Great news indeed!
  8. That makes sense. I still have my old Animeigo receipt. I paid $250 for the Macross DVDs plus $10 shipping. Looking back, I think Animeigo had the benefit of being the only game in town because the Robotech VHS tapes were already scarce. Of course, that was $250 twelve years ago. I am not sure how long it took for the price to drop on that box set, but it was unfortunate. Getting a better value out of the domestic BGC blu-ray release would be nice. I wouldn't mind an art book or a soundtrack if that was even possible. I also noticed that Paradise Dolls was not included as an extra. Not that it is a big loss, but it is another AD Police story set within Megatokyo. I wonder if this set is specific to only those licenses that Animeigo has available to them?
  9. What I saw of Texhnolyze was grueling. I keep meaning to get back to it. Actually, I should probably start over from the beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed Ergo Proxy, but felt that it suffered from lack of direction when the main chracters left the city and entered the wasteland. I actually thought more would come of that journey in my first viewing. I picked up Beyond the Boundary as another new show for this season. Yeah, I couldn't resist the glasses and the cardigan.
  10. There was a kickstarter for Time of Eve earlier this year that was very successful. I'll go out on a limb and say that a Bubblegum Crisis kickstarter should also make its goal. Perhaps this isn't live yet because of licensing negotiations? I wouldn't cry foul because it is still a working draft. Also, I wouldn't pledge for the bonuses. I would pledge for the main product. The bonus goals are just that: bonuses. The basic pledge is $25, so I'm not sure how that compares to Animeigo's Macross DVD release. But if I had a crystal ball at the time, I might have waited for the Japanese blus.
  11. Indeed. The actual announcement may be more realistic in scope, but I still think it will be a positive thing.
  12. Press conference? Who needs a press conference? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24448063 Actually, I'm looking forward to the press conference, but now that there is official word, this is just...wow.
  13. I'm late to the party, but I watched episode one last night. The music was fantastic and I may stick with it for that alone.
  14. /weeps. I envy you guys who got in on the hlj pre-order of MP-17. I have Prowl bundled with another figure at TFSource. In addition to paying more, I'm also in pre-order limbo. I've been reading up on them and have discovered that is their usual business practice...Bah! It may be bad luck, but it is also annoying.
  15. Just watched the first episode of Kill la Kill... Yeah, that was awesome. But getting back to Mogogatari:
  16. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/106-doctor-who-episodes-uncovered-2343474 Is this another silly rumor or a potential holy grail for fans of the classic series? If it is a holy grail, the BBC is being pretty mum about it, because they have kept the Classic Doctor Who DVD release schedule intact.
  17. Finally caught myself up to the latest gatari cliffhanger over the weekend... NO! I have to wait another week!?
  18. Thanks for the photos!. The close-up shot of both Isamu and Yang was very good. I like the detail there. The inside of the cockpit is looking gorgeous too.
  19. At this point, I agree. However, I cannot predict how requirements might change in the future and I don't know how other users configure their libraries. My steam directory takes up 50GB at the moment, but I only have 14 of my 67 games installed. My installation tends to focus on games that I am playing through right now. Since this is being marketed as a console alternative, I would guess that drive replacement is as easy as it is in other systems/PCs that allow for user-serviceable parts. I guess I get itchy seeing just one drive with no explanation for it. Something from my IT past doesn't trust that configuration. I would like to see separate physical drives for the system and data partitions just to be safe. But that's my opinion. As I noted above, the Steam Machine could be tiny or Valve could be satisfied with the quality of the hybrid drive it is using. In that case, the point is moot beyond what users can do with their own designs. On the upside, one HDD gives only one point of failure, so there's that.
  20. Ugh, FE Bulkhead. I have a similar case of bad luck with Hasbro. I bought this version initially because I thought the lighter, drab colors were show accurate. Unfortunately, the figure arrived new and after one transformation the doors on the right side fell off---the plastic mounts were stripped and warped out of the box! I took it back but was unable to find another bulkhead to replace it at the time. I ended up getting the Takara version recently on clearance. The colors are darker, but the figure is better where it matters.
  21. Right. Having built my own breadbox HTPCs, I was thinking that you can do a lot with 2.5" drives. The 7mm drives allow for even more clearance. However, if this is more like an AppleTV or Wii Chasis, then two drives are definitely out of the question. The size of a Linux base installation is not something that I'm really concerned with in my critique. I was thinking about creating a failsafe. For example, i like having a separate system drive and data drive in case one develops a problem. In that case, it is easier to troubleshoot and replace, if necessary. When everything is on the same drive, it becomes more of a hassle.
  22. So very much in. Heh, I still have the pink Bubblegum Crisis box.
  23. I guess if the game is part of any timeline?
  24. Thanks for the info on hybrid drives! The last time I read a bout the subject, they were still relatively new. But this still begs the question, why set up the Steam Machine with only one HDD? Drives are no longer bulky 3.5" blocks of wasted space. And with a Linux operating system it makes sense to partition a separate boot drive and data drive. At least, it makes sense to me.
