Correction: it's VF-27γ (gamma), not VF-27y. Nevertheless, I agree with the rest of your points. I'd only like to add: the VF-27 was the only one that was officially adopted (in the sense that it's a VF, not an experimental YF). So, the VF-27 would end up being the best - not because of anything other than it's the one that has the highest degree of refinement, is the least likely to break down (as it doesn't have a bunch of unproven components in it), and has the best cost/performance ratio.

RM++ Project: Worldguide II 01A: Marduk: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php - the sheet is a little lite on details. That said, I like that they moved the sheet out of the main timeline and into it's own Worldguide subsection.

Macross Chronicle indicates the VF-25A appears in both the TV series and movies. The YF-25 is also appears in the movies.

Complete: Gallery 7: Macross 7 #63: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgallery/MCRgallery.php#M7 - not much... RM++ Project: History 7 09B: Operation Stargazer: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#M7 - instead of answering questions, the RM's only make new ones. E.g.: if the Protodevilun don't need science and technology and took armaments over from the Unified Forces, where did the basis for the improvements on those armaments come from? The series didn't give the impression that the brainwashed soldiers were creative, nor could the Protodevilun just will mechanical stuff into existence...

Apologies. I'm not a Lego enthusiast at the same level as some of you guys. For me, if it's space and in grey (or blue) it feels like "real" Lego. Like the set in the following link: http://www.toysperiod.com/lego-set-reference/space/classic-space/lego-891-two-man-scooter-non-us-version-of-442/ Despite the funkiness of the scooter/space shuttle itself, it was a great source of cool parts.

RM++ Project: Episode: F21A & B: Macross F Eps. 21 "Blue Ether": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MF - I was wondering why they chose to blow up Island 3. One of the topics provides an in-series, logical reason why. Also, the subtle changes to Luca's character design is interesting.

Either a lot more small moving parts, or more compact?
-
Agreed. They got the '80's Super Deformed concept down just right, too. Out of the four I got, the Millennium Falcon and Star Destroyer are the best - quite a range of pieces, and a lot of classic space grey. The X-wing and Droid Tank have a lot more playability (read = moving parts), but they're not quite as satisfying on a certain level. Nevertheless, they all (except the X-wing) have some of the newer parts mentioned earlier in this thread (eg 90 degree switch pieces) and lots of angled plates (so we can start contemplating our dream of making our own variable fighter design!).

RM++ Project: Timeline 49A: The Galaxy Fleet's Crisis (F): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - some very interesting RMs. Specifically the one about Galaxy Fleet. Like or dislike Kawamori's politics, it's truly a shame that the disparity between wealth classes within the Galaxy Fleet and the contrast between the Galaxy and Frontier Fleets weren't better capitalized on in the series - they're such a great source of conflict and dramatic tension! Episode: M29A & B: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Eps. 29 "Lonely Song": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#SDFM - the topic on Warera and the other three brought a chuckle while at the same time being depressing about the fate of the Zentraadi who sided with us Earthlings. Ultimately, it reinforces how great the Zentraadi are as protagonists.

I like that the VFMF writers are trying to bring these lesser known designs to the forefront and give them backgrounds and stories that they wouldn't otherwise get. However, sometimes they get things wrong (some of the underwing munitions for the VF-19), or end up with some just plain weird interpretations that have no precedent (the above and below FAST packs in the latest book). That said, I think they got the GU-11D just right - logical, and not unbalancing to what's gone before and comes after.

You mean the one pictured here? (scroll down to the "GU-11D 55 mm TRI-BARREL GUN POD:" section): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/VF-3000/VF-3000.php#ARMAMENTS If so, then it's the VF-3000's gun pod, and was retconned by the VFMF writers as a later model VF-1 gun pod.

1/350 Scale thread... Mospeada, Southern Cross and more!
sketchley replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Good point, but keep in mind that the other pieces of line art he's referencing have the structures in different positions (call it sloppiness on the part of the original illustrator). The 3DCG that we're seeing is the best approximation of all the different perspectives. That said, and despite the overlong top structure in the illustration, it seems that there should be more disc structure behind the seam where it opens up - the lineart has the split at the 2/5 point, and the 3DCG has the seam at the 2/3 point. Though, given the amount of work put into the model and that it looks like it'll mainly be displayed open (why else put all the effort into the internal detail?), it's probably not worth it to make that seam placement revision.- 419 replies

RM++ Project: Worldguide 27A: Propaganda Movies: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php - given the tone of the parts translated, I think the title "Patriotic Movies" would better convey the content of the page. Nevertheless, some interesting reexaminations of historical Macross events.

2 new Variable Fighter Master File books: VF-22 and VF-1 Squadrons
sketchley replied to cool8or's topic in Collectors
Nope, because they're from a video game that takes place in the DYRL -> Macross II branch. These VFMF books are set in the SDFM -> MF branch. -
Seconded.

RM++ Project: Character: II Marduk 02A: Marduk People: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#MII - the RM is quite interesting, with a bit more insight into the legend of Arisu, and its effects. History 7 08B: The Battle Of Planet Rax: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#M7 - Gurabiru's technical name sure is a mouthful.

With Sound Energy, they don't have to, as is based on a different pseudo-science. Something about people tapping into a dimension full of spiritia, and some people have better connections than others. The VF-X2 Sound Resonance may be based on Fold Waves (maybe not so much a retcon, but the progenitor of the Fold Wave concept that appeared in MF), or it might be based around Fold Carbon (or Fold Coal), which is also the basis for Fold Drives and the Heavy Quantum used in the Macross Cannons (the names of the material and the concept of heavy quantum were retconned with MF).

Some of us either know people, are related to people, or dream of becoming content producers, so we don't tend to do that sort of thing (at the very least because of karma!). Another excellent point. My general response is: "why should I spend the time and money to buy it, go to the effort of scanning and releasing it, AND run the risk of gaining a criminal record*. All for someone to view it for free?" And that's on top of the aforementioned stuff. It really sucks to be a pirate if looked at that way, eh. * yay, Japanese law [said sarcastically]

RM++ Project: Episode: 7 40A & B: Macross 7 Eps. 40 "Desire That Exceeds The Stars": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 - some interesting summarizing of Gamlin and Basara's relationship over the series. The two Topics are a good read, to, providing an overview of Reaction Weapons and The Galactic Treaty (partially a retread, partially inferred (= new)).

It's being published by Daegostini, who in my experiences, have a history of extending a publication as new material for a series becomes available. That said, it really depends on how fast the new Macross series takes to get released.

MC went as far as saying that there are "multiple" possibilities of what happened. The official (or the most official) word comes from a mail-away exclusive gift for the PS1 release of SDFM:DYRL: http://nomansland.site.nfoservers.com/MRG-Active-Archive//forums/index.php?topic=2872.0 Or, as many others have stated over the years: 'they've ridden off into the sunset'.

Complete! Gallery II: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II ~Lovers Again~ #62: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgallery/MCRgallery.php#MII - interesting how they've changed the way they write the name of the series, eh (MII := SDFM:MII). Mechanic: Zero UN 04A: QF-2200D-A Ghost / QF-2200D-B Ghost: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#M0 - some pretty major changes between the sheets. More specifically, they changed the name of the fighters!
