  1. There's one nice thing about being in Japan - it's full of mountains, and the mountains tend to rip the typhoons to shreds (though, it sucks if you're in the area that's taking the brunt of the storm). Which is pretty much what happened this time.
  2. It really depends on how the typhoon approaches Japan that determine which area takes the brunt. Add to that, that its still kind of early in the season for typhoons to sustain themselves (or worse, grow!) when they approach the waters around Japan (meaning: typhoons get their energy from warmer water). Nevertheless, this one was quite large - and unexpectedly throw a lot of humid, hot equatorial air at us, giving us mid-August, hot and humid weather for a day or two. Yucky!
  3. RM++ Project: Timeline TF 03A: The Frontier Fleet And The Vajra Conflict: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - some interesting RMs.
  4. Saw Benny's Spaceship on the weekend. Would LUV to get that set - but at ¥10,000...
  5. It's hot. Hot. Hot. Hot. Unseasonably hot. Aside from that, we (the Kansai area) are getting a reprieve from the rains of rainy season. Would like to do some painting on the 1/100 Missile Phalanx I'm currently working on, but the heat's wiped out any motivation for that (humidity be damned!).
  6. RM++ Project: Episode: 7 49A & B: Macross 7 Eps. 49 "The Singing Voice That Resounds In The Galaxy": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 - some interesting commentary, though I wish the topic on the Bouquet Girl was a bit more... informative (though, I guess the mystery is part of her charm, no?). Episode: M36A & B: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Eps. 36 "Gentle Goodbye": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#SDFM - quite full of juiciness. The two topics are especially informative. The draft version with Kamjin surviving (and Hikaru potentially dying) is thought provoking. That said, I don't think Kamjin's final story arc could've ended any better than the tragic one that was animated (not the least of which, being the implications for fellow Zentraadi who cannot adapt to Earth's culture!)
  7. What're you talking about? We get a VF-25S replacement sheet (apparently a VF-27 was used as a background image on the page from #30) and a correction stickers/errata sheet!
  8. RM++ Project: Timeline TF 02A: Sheryl And The Galaxy Fleet's Plot: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - some interesting notes on the Galaxy Treaty - though, it's pretty much only a collection of what's been stated elsewhere all in one place.
  9. Very interesting. Aside from the costs and promised content, just glancing at the two begs two questions: - why doesn't the RT one have preproduction art? (If it does, why isn't it more obvious?) - where is all that extra money going to? Hollywood has been operating on a series pilot first, green-lit TV series later system for decades. Shouldn't a pilot cost less than a finished, complete release, with all lose ends tied up? (Or be more comparably priced, given exchange rates and so forth?)
  10. Thank you for applying some critical thinking to this, and reminded us to do the same.
  11. RM++ Project: History M 17A: The Factory Satellite Capture Operation: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#SDFM - quite a few minor changes in the new edition! In some ways, those changes have improved the world view, IMHO.
  12. You're not the only one saying it. I was picking up their books 20+ years ago*, and they were always late then. It's Palladium's business model. * Geez, has it been that long?
  13. RM++ Project: Worldguide TF 01A: Idols And Live Performances: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php - some interesting points in the RM. History 7 10A: Operation Sound Buster: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#M7 - some more good points - especially one giving at least one justification for Gabiru's appearance in FB7. On the other hand, the fate of the Battle 7 raises a good point on the perils of translating: the term used is "sunk" (as in 'sending a ship to the bottom'). Some dictionaries give the alternative "destroyed" (which I think has been commonly used, as one can't send a ship to the bottom... of space.) In this particular RM, they say that the Battle 7 is being "repaired" (and as one can't repair something that's been destroyed, the Battle 7 couldn't have been). I've opted for 'shot down'. Hope that (and this explanation) helps make sense of what happened to the Battle 7.
  14. RM++ Project: Character: TF SMS 01B: Saotome Aruto: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#TMF - the RM is frustratingly light on detail. Character: F Citizen 02C: Sheryl Nome: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#MF - alas, the RM doesn't really embellish in-series revelations. Complete! Episode: D7 00B: Macross Dynamite 7 Opening / Ending: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MD7 - it's not much, but unlike the character sheets, the text here actually says something new.
  15. RM++ Project: Character 7 Citizen 03B: Ray Lovelock: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#M7 - some food for thought about Ray's personality Character: M Citizen 01G: Lynn Minmei: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#SDFM - the RM provides a nice overview of Minmei's music after SDFM.
  16. In a unique turn, #76 has Tenjin Hidetaka art - 5 paintings. They're not new new ones expressly produced for MC, but if you don't have the DVD or Blu-ray sets that they were produced for (or the Valkyries books that some of them were reprinted in), then they are new. Which is where I find myself: two "new" Tenjin paintings.
  17. Been busy this past week overhauling my translations site. One of the major goals was overhauling the Macross Chronicle Revised Ed. - Series Guide TOC, and adding the covers to it: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php Spiffy, eh? On a related note, Daegostini has released the cover of #79, and there isn't a new Tenjin painting on it, either. If I'm not mistaken, we're getting another size comparison chart sheet in it, and one of the issues just before it has another "this mecha/character appeared in this episode of Frontier" sheet. >.<;;;
  18. RM++ Project: Glossary 25A: Glossary 25A: Miria's Ship - Yuuri Yui: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRglossary/MCRglossary.php - hopefully with less controversy than the last sheet. I think the most interesting is the description of the activities of the Milky Dolls. Horrible group name, but interesting research, no? The Moruku Rapuramizu entry is also adds a new dimension.
  19. RM++ Project: Glossary 24A: Maria Velásquez Hoily - Maria Fariina Jiinasu: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRglossary/MCRglossary.php - one big, fat, interesting question that the sheet raises is: "Is Mariafokina Barnrose truly Max and Miria's 4th daughter Therese Jiinasu?" If so, it would explain a lot of things - not the least of it, her "genius" level piloting skills in a VF-1. Millard Johnson's paragraph was also quite insightful.
  20. RM++ Project: Episode: Plus 05C & D: Macross Plus Movie Edition: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M+ - some more highlighting of the changes when they made the series into the movie. Episode TF03A & B: Nyan Kuri -Nyan x2 Music Clip-: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#TMF - a fairly decent summary of the release. At one point, was considering translating the whole thing, but as I'm not that big a MF fan, and as the sheet itself states - it doesn't have a story element...
  21. Abenomics and the consumption tax increase at work, eh? I wonder when wages and benefits will be increased to match inflation...
  22. Complete!: Goods 08: 30th Anniversary Macross Super Dimensional Exhibition - Lured By The Valkyrie!: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgoods/MCRgoods.php#08EV - this brought back a flood of good memories. It also highlighted how special the Osaka version was (as much as I'd like to throw in a few superlatives here (go Osaka!), it was, ultimately, a subjective experience).
  23. RM++ Project: Timeline TF 01A: Sheryl's Visit And The Vajra Attack: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - some excellent points are raised in both of the RMs. Hopefully the subsequent *new* TF sheets will also be loaded with more goodness. History M 14A: The Lynn Minmei Operation: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#SDFM - this sheet also has some good RMs.
  24. RM++ Project: Character: 7 Citizen 02H: Mylene Flare Jiinasu: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#M7 - the RM's are a good synopsis of series events, but don't really say anything new. Character: Ai UN 01B: Ichijo Hikaru: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#DYRL - THIS RM actually says something new - not much, mind you. It's a nice re-analysis/summary of the love triangle.
