  1. Anime magic.
  2. Thanks. So that's what it was saying. For everyone - the context of what antibiotictab translated is: 25 years ago, Kawamori-san used paper and balsa-wood to test make the VF-1. There's also something in there about it being impossible to make the VF-1 in the 3D CG animation era, and the he uses Lego as a guide for the CG animation. The rest of it is an introduction to the various modes of the VF-1 for the average person, and how Macross F went on to spawn 2 movies because of its popularity.
  3. Piece Of Peace http://www.pofp.jp/ An exhibit of World Heritage sites built in Lego, currently in Osaka from 2014.07.19 to 08.31. It's definitely worth it if you like Lego and are in Osaka. It's also a great thing to do on a rainy day and to escape the summer heat and humidity. Especially because the enter fee is quite reasonable. Even more so if you've got kids and want an escape from the hustle and bustle of Umeda. The exhibition has some of the same sets as the 2nd one (we also went to it a couple of years ago), with enough new sets to make it more than worthwhile. Some of the sets are quite large and awe inspiring (on top of inspiring). That said, I was blown away when I saw the familiar site of the Lego VF-25. And it wasn't just one - but three! And the sheer scale of the mecha behind them was also surprising. Nevertheless, I revelled at the chance to get an up close look at how Kawamori-san went about building a transforming Valkyrie - and some of the pieces he used were surprising. There were also descriptive plaques and images of what they finally ended up looking like in anime; along with an introductory note by Kawamori-san. All in all, it was a very satisfying surprise to find at the exhibition, and I hope that the pictures give you some ideas on how to make your own Lego Valkyrie, like seeing the actual sets has for me.
  4. Piece Of Peace 3 [Osaka 2014.07.19 to 08.31] http://www.pofp.jp/ This is an exhibition of world heritage sites built in Lego. Unexpectedly, Kawamori Shoji's VF-25 has its own display in it - in all three modes (that's 1 set each for Fighter, GERWALK, and Battroid). [Picts, etc., to come]
  5. Apologies if this news has already been mentioned: If you're in Japan... Currently, Bandai is in the middle of an "HG Customize Campaign Summer 2014". If you purchase an HG kit from participating dealers while supplies last, you get a weapon pack present. Images: http://www.gundam.info/topic/11184 If I knew about it earlier, I would've tried to get one of the A to C sets. Nevertheless, I've managed to get the E and F sets (though, the second Joshin store didn't let me chose, and I would've preferred the D set over the F - though the mini-MS that comes with it is kinda neat).
  6. Complete: Goods 04: Macross Related Publications: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgoods/MCgoods.php#04P - as disappointing as the original incarnation of this page was, it serves as a good compliment for the descriptions in the Revised Ed., with a surprising amount of useful info.
  7. Complete: Goods 05: Macross Related Publications 1: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgoods/MCRgoods.php#05CG - some interesting notes about the various books - though, it's quite dry on the second read. Nevertheless, a good overview that definitely helps us book collectors know what to keep our eye out for. Side note: argh! The content is like completely different from the original edition. Not just the layout, blurb and additional content - even the descriptions themselves are different. Looks like I'll have to do that sheet, too. >.<;;;
  8. Complete: Goods 05: Variable Fighter Master File: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgoods/MCRgoods.php#05CG - a lot more informative than I was expecting. Did anyone else know that the VFMF: VF Modelling Manuel is actually a collection of articles that were published in the "Scale Aviation" magazine??
  9. Partial: Glossary 26A: Fairy - Lynn Minmei: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRglossary/MCRglossary.php - lots of jems. Highlights (for me) would have to be the general Zentraadi soldier's opinion on the Riigado, and some specific numbers on the "Little Girl" Fold Bomb.
  10. Complete: Mechanic: 7 Citizen 01A: City 7 Aircraft And Vehicles: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#M7 - some interesting notes, but alas, the revised edition never gave us pictures of the City Police Machine for space (aside from a couple of screen captures), and the Variable Armoured Vehicle (which gets named, but isn't shown aside from a single screen capture). T.T Here's what I'm talking about (enjoy the picts, ignore the text): City Police Machine: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/VariablePolice/VariablePoliceAir.php City Police Machine For Space: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/VariablePolice/VariablePoliceSpace.php Variable Armoured Vehicle: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/VariablePolice/VariablePoliceGround.php Admittedly those are hard to find images apparently printed in only one M7 related book. Nevertheless... I'm disappointed that the expanded coverage in the revised edition didn't get to them.
  11. The ultimate guide is "Macross Chronicle" (revised ed. obviously being preferably to the original). Beyond that, there are a few magazine articles that provide those details for the key, or main VFs in the series produced at the time of their printing. After that, there are some publications for specific series that occasionally have those kinds of details for some of the vehicles that appeared in the respective series. Here's a list that MW compiled a couple of years ago: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=34738
  12. Complete: Mechanic: TF NUNS 06A: YF-25 Prophecy: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#TMF - nothing in particular strikes me as being heretofore unpublished (perhaps there is 'newly confirmed' content, but as its rather common sense to me...) That said, the RM on Dainamu Chogokin strikes me as interesting. Why would the L.A.I. Co. need to do PR work? Especially, why PR work with transforming toys?!?
  13. Sketchley. Sketch, Sketchy and so on are different users. Revised Edition: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/CoverEtc.php#71 Original Edition: official: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26302&page=36#entry827138 my recommendation: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26302&page=36#entry827163 (if you search around the post in this linked topic, you'll find the recommendations of others on how to file it)
  14. Complete! Mechanic: Other 07A: Pheyos Valkyrie / Quadoran-Nona / Gujaguravan Va / Roqual / Vandal: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#Other - the descriptions of the vehicles leaves a lot of things to be desired, but I'm satisfied with how they describe what the Milky Dolls were formed to do (the Glossary Sheet (if memory serves) implies that they are able to communicate across space and time, whereas this sheet more strongly implies that they are investigating it [i don't want to even start thinking about how many paradoxes that would create!]). I can also see that the ideas behind the Milky Dolls were the seeds for the Vajra's Fold Network's real time communication.
  15. RM++ Project: Timeline TF 06A: The Decisive Battle With The Vajra: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - some interesting things are mentioned, not the least of which is the fate of the protagonists and the Macross Frontier Fleet! ... and here ends the RM++ Project. (That said, I still have about a dozen pages I want to complete translate on the desk... but it's nice to say that I'm done with all those RMs!)
  16. RM++ Project: Episode: FB700A: Macross FB7 Listen To My Song! Production Data: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#FB7 - this sheet was full of "meh" for me. Hopefully it's more than that for at least some of you. It's a book. So no sheets to be separated and filed in the binders. A brief list of the contents can be seen here: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#81 No new images as far as I can tell, but it does have a bunch of cropped and/or resized art interspersed. Most interesting is that for the characters and mechanic sections, they have pretty much everything that was pictured (and then some) - even the stuff in the extra reports and mechanics that appeared on the character sheets get their own entries! (and vice versa). Though, it gets kind of ridiculous for the mechanics that appeared in multiple series and were printed on multiple sheets. E.g.: the SDF-1 has 9 entries - 5 for SDFM, 3 for DYRL, and 1 for MII.
  17. That's what I get for doing those things late at night...
  18. Technically it's today (2014.08.05) and what's on the cover is the shelf date (don't ask why they're different in Japan). On that note, #81 is unlike the other 80 issues: it's a properly bound book (or Mook as they like to say). Which is probably handier that way.
  19. RM++ Project: Technology 01G: Variable Fighter (Armoured Packs): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtechnology/MCRtechnology.php - quite a range of info - and that's just the Related Matter columns!
  20. RM++ Project: Mechanic: M UN 01E: SDF-1 Macross: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#SDFM - most interesting is that the original 01D sheet was expanded into two. The biggest difference being the enlarged artwork and a few more captions. Of course the two new RM's are good reads, too. Character: Ai Citizen 01C: Lynn Minmei: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#DYRL - I'm still fascinated with the changed relationship between Lynn Minmei and Lynn Kaifun. It's almost like a mirror universe. The RM herein adds to that dynamic, adding some insight into why and how he ended up on the SDF-1.
  21. Bandai's 1/144 Macross 7 line is a great line, IMHO. Somehow they got the right balance between being easy for people new to modelling, and enough detail for us intermediate modellers to practice the craft. I slapped together the first kit a couple of years ago, and didn't do anything other than panel lining it with a Gundam marker. Recently, I picked up a good tip from the Gundam Builders line - spot painting a few key parts to enhance the overall kit (see examples at the bottom). Those "spot paints" certainly enhanced the kit. With the tawny custom, I attempted some kit bashing (attaching the Battroid FAST Packs from the first kit on the fighter from the second) and panel lining with a new technique: black watercolour paint mixed with acrylic paint thinner. As it was my first time with this technique, the results came out kind of mixed. (Lesson learned: put the mixture on sparingly, directly over the paint, wipe off with moist q-tips, and gingerly fix mistakes with a q-tip moist with acrylic paint thinner. Cover with clear coat AFTER). The tawny custom was finished off with black comic ink (strangely enough, acrylic based!) applied with a drawing nib (non-standard type). Plus a few stickers from the Bandai VF-1 that were left over. (Tawny VF-11 attached to the SDF-1? It's possible, no?) EDIT: the tawny custom colours are based off of one of the colour schemes for the VF-11 that appeared in This Is Animation Macross Plus, and the VF-19EF from Macross The Ride. Fighter: Battroid: Family picts: On the shelf with the extended family (I've got big plans for the second VF-17, and am working on a custom of the VF-11MAXL, too (not pictured)): Spot painting on the knives and some of the armour parts (head, arms, legs and shoulders). The Zaku's knife looks awesome with the VF-1, eh? (That loopy FAST Pack is battle damage, ok ).
  22. RM++ Project: M7 Episodes!: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 7 00C: Macross 7 Eyecatches - although a collection of Eyecatches is nice, what puts the icing on this case are the brief descriptions of the Macross 7 Plus episodes. 7 00D: Macross 7 List Of Mechanic/Character In Each Episode. - ... Mechanic: Ai Zentraadi 02A: Zentraadi Military Vessels: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#DYRL - so THAT'S what happened to Bodoruza's fortress. It's a shame that it wasn't made clearer in the movie (or at least the dubs/subs I've seen).
  23. I've been considering it to be either a Galaxy Fleet scout or fighter craft (nothing official has been mentioned about it). Though, I like Azrael's interpretation/description.
