  1. Aside from it being the Vajra Homeworld, and having a heck of a lot of Fold Quartz, yes, finding an Earth like planet is a big thing in the Macross universe. It's been stated in a couple of sources that some Emigrant Fleets are doomed to spend a "semi-eternity" searching for a habitable planet.
  2. Already resolved a few posts earlier in this topic: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=32805&p=1153984 Or find the new link in my signature
  3. On the kits behalf - we should keep in mind that it was made old school style (ie: pre-CAD), and to treat it as such (lots of flash that needs to be cleaned up, and the aforementioned poor fit). Though the questionable materials is unforgiveable!
  4. Agreed. Got it as a gift from someone a few years back. After building it, I keep it in GERWALK mode on a stand - surprisingly, that's the most stable mode, and the standard Gundam stand peg size snugly fits into where the head goes.
  5. What comes to mind in reading your post about the shared wings: - reduced cost for the B model from shared parts with the A model - the A model is oriented for flight at higher speeds and altitudes over land, where larger wings (+ fuel reserves) and lower speed performance aren't as important for day to day operations (mainly carrier landings). Your thoughts on it sound right, but I'm afraid I can't provide any insight into why small wings other than the guidance from the oft quoted "you can make a brick fly if you put enough thrust onto it". EDIT: just realizing that I may be inadvertently suggesting that the F-35 is a brick. Which is not my intent. It's that due to the high thrust, the wings are less of a factor, thus they don't need to be big to keep it in the air or something like that.
  6. Companies attempting to break into, and actually succeeding into breaking into the market are two different things. Take Facebook. Made a big splash, but everyone uses Line. The other thing to keep in mind is, even if such a service does take off in time, will the target audience for the new Macross show be demanding that it be made available via that service, and will the producers be willing to release it via that medium? I'm not saying that it isn't possible. Just don't hold your breath. It might be helpful to mention the FBz-99.
  7. Complete: Great Mechanics 8: Macross Zero: VF-0 & SV-51; Behind The Scenes Of The Setting For "Zero": http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/OTgreatmechanics.php - and here I was thinking of a simple "proofread and slap into php"! It turned into another marathon, as interesting things kept catching my eye >.< So, on top of some of the first commentary and stats on the SV-51 and VF-0D that were released, it's also got an extremely interesting interview/conversation with Kawamori-san and Chiba-san; which ranges from their relationship, how Macross stats are created, Kawamori's opinion on "canon" and the stats themselves, and plenty of wonderful ideas they had that just didn't make it into the finished series (and a few of those are extremely interesting, thought provoking additions). Some of their decisions were quite surprising, and their comments on viewers and how the shows treat them is enlightening, perhaps more so about the terms they book it in. For me, the spot where they talk about the scene where Shin fires two missiles at the enemy fighter is the highlight of the interview/conversation - highlighting not only how much thought and detail they put into it, but also how much respect that blink-and-you-miss it sequence holds for the viewer!
  8. Just to be clear, it's not clear if the triangle/delta symbol is supposed to be read as "delta". There is nothing on the few images released so far that hint or suggest at how we're supposed to read it. It could very well be "Macross Triangle", or even something bizarre as "Macross Turn Triangle" (a la "Gundam Turn A". As much as I'd like to throw my support into the "it's a Greek letter" camp (as Kawamori-san has a penchant for appending Greek letters to enemy Valkyries), I'm inclined to opt for the "it's a stylized triangle", because love triangles are one of the core themes of Macross, and the hero Valkyries get Roman letters, not Greek ones!
  9. Revised and mucho expanded! Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie: Wings Of The Stratosphere: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/OTvfmf/OTvfmf.php - this book... there's just so much in it that looks interesting, and by and large, the majority of it is. Alas, I ran out of steam before getting around to doing the VF-1A/J/S variants. But on the other hand, I believe I've polished off all the bits n the F-14 (and variants), and I'm fairly certain that many of you will find such things as the wing armament charts in, well, chart form, valuable. Aside from doing the F-14 and up to the subtitles of all the VF-1 paint schemes (the main goals), I've gone and done things like the VF-1's parameters (nothing new), the block number chart (quite interesting for something that ought to be banal) and fuselage minor changes, the pilot suits, the RAM/SCRAM Jet modes, Streak Valkyrie's Challenge chart, the CVS-101 data and chart captions, carrier-borne aircraft, and the Fleet Deployment Chart. This book is literally endless in interesting things!
  10. How did the "dislike" in my post transmogrify into the "hate" that appears in your quote?
  11. No. Those "vent" like things are panels like Venetian blinds that rotate open as the engine assembly slides forward when transforming. They have nothing to do with the engines or thrust that comes out of the engines - as the engines are located directly above and behind those slats.
  12. Very interesting. Earlier today, I was thinking about why I dislike MF so much, and concluded that its because the characters (even the majority of the adults!) act very immature, whereas most everyone in M7 IS mature, except for the characters that are supposed to be immature (I.e. Mylene). Basara being a good example on how he approaches his process of changing the world, especially in how he reacts in the face of adversity. I'm of the opinion that he was more interested in making music (or changing the world with music) than the usual "perks" of being a rock star (that being sampling T & A). It's implied that he does take his pants off once or twice with a woman in the series, but he's never portrayed as taking advantage of all the women who offer themselves (and more than a handful are depicted doing that). So, I think it's a stretch to say that Basara was ignoring Mylene specifically or was oblivious to her feelings in particular, but I do agree in principal in a general sense of him ignoring the opposite sex for the sake of his music.
  13. Complete: Mechanic: 7 Varohta 01A: Fz-109 Elgazorn: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/7varohta01AFz-109Elgazorn.php - I wasn't intending on finishing this one at this time. Honest! Just after stumbling across a partial translation and in the process of incorporating it, I realized that it was only a bit more work to polish it off (so he says after that "bit" turned into 3 days!). Nevertheless, some very good points raised on the sheet, especially concerning Varohta battle tactics, Gigiru's role and strengths, and why he continually ended up being defeated.
  14. Again, if memory serves, I believe it was the cyborg version of the BDI.
  15. Maybe the VFMF writers couldn't get permission from the people behind MtR? The other possibility is that the VF-22HG was an aircraft produced under licence with unofficial modifications (if memory serves, it was a test bed for some of the new technologies that went into the VF-27). So, as a top secret fighter (even the VF-27's existence wasn't wildly disseminated before the events of MF), it makes sense that it wouldn't show up in the VF-22 book (given that they're written from an in-universe perspective - and this one in particular, by writers on Planet Eden).
  16. Partial: Mechanic: II UN 01A: VF-2SS Valkyrie II: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#MII - spiffied this one up while converting it to html. On the plus side, the translation is greatly cleaned up (yeegawds, there were some missing parts, and others that were completely wrong in the Data column!). The big change between the two versions is the sheer number of "Main Pilots" added in the revised edition (!).
  17. Revised and thoroughly expanded (but by no-means complete): Macross Chronicle Series Guide: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/MCother.php - it wasn't my intent to do so much (just paste up the existing text in html), but the MC is like a comfortable old glove, and once started, I found myself trucking along. Hopefully it'll prove informative or insightful to someone (mind you, I did find the intent of the original publisher at the start of the series interesting, especially from a POV after the revised edition has been published).
  18. Revised: Macross Chronicle #50: Errata: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/MCother.php - no major changes, but a bunch of reformatting and some translation clarification. Now to see if I have to make any changes to existing translations...
  19. Note the VF-22B is the normal length, and the VF-22D is a stretched type, with greater payload (other than noting that, I haven't looked at the accompanying text too closely. Nevertheless, as I mentioned earlier, it totally reminds me of the FB-22 bomber proposal!)
  20. Revised and expanded! Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur: The Traces Of The Sacred Sword: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/OTvfmf/OTvfmf.php - beyond a bunch of minor changes, the reorganization of some blocks of text to make them more comprehensible, and a couple of passages that were retranslated, there is a bunch more previously untranslated content (pilot suits, block numbers, and squadron markings), among other changes from the previous release. Enjoy!
  21. There are reasons for that - the captions accompanying the images say "equipped with Weapon Container" (equipped with the underside bays/micro-missile launchers) or "equipped with Weapon Pallet" (lacking the underside bays/micro-missile launchers). The Weapon Containers are indicated as optional standard equipment for all VF-22 variants (and YF-21 variants). Those Weapon Containers also appear to be loaded with either a gun pod, or optional internal pallet (not from this book per se, gleaned from other sources). Which would explain why the VF-22 is occasionally listed as having 3 internal pallets. [it doesn't even look like there's enough room for the micro-missiles in those Weapon Containers when they're loaded with the Gunpod!] One other point of note is that the belly can be swapped over for specialized ones that semi-recess some of the larger missiles. Quite an interesting development, and one that doesn't stretch imagination to the breaking point (like the micro-missiles and Gunpod in the Weapon Containers does!)
  22. Great Mechanics.DX 30 Coinciding with the Blu-ray release of MII, the magazine's "The Settings/The Establishment" column features the VF-2SS Valkyrie II. There seems to be one or two pieces of line-art that I haven't come across before (including the three-fighter launch catapult outside a ship and the pre-launch loading chamber inside the ship). The subtitle of the accompanying text is intriguing: "One More Possibility If One Looks At 'Macross II'". In the "Hobby Operation" column, there's an announcement of the Wave 1/100 VF-1S Strike Valkyrie Battroid and Fighter kits (both ¥4,536, not including tax), and a small image of the GERWALK, if one were to combine the parts from the Battroid and Fighter kits (a neat gimmick in the Wave series of VF-1, but it ends up with an excessively priced GERWALK! Far cheaper to invest in either the Bandai or the upcoming Hasegawa kits, IMHO).
  23. "Beam Cannon Model [FAST Pack]" and "Beam Cannon Model Sensor Attached [FAST Pack]". Given the information available in the VFMF:VF-1 and VF-19 books for similar beam cannon equipped FAST Packs, the VF-22 ones are most likely designed for anti-ship use (off the top of my head, I can't remember if it's just for punching holes in the sides of enemy ships, or something more...)
  24. You should be able to find a bunch of content on the Sketchup user generated content library. On the other hand, you might want to keep the detail of buildings, etc. to a minimum. Use colours and textures should provide more than enough to give a sense of detail (on DeviantArt, there are a lot of people who use Sketchup for modelling and export it into a different 3DCG program for rendering - getting a lot of the surface detail, lighting and shading from those other programs).
  25. Blame the hosts!
