  1. RM++ Project: Timeline 41A: The Secret Of Planet Rax (7): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - alas, the RM's don't really add much of anything...
  2. Complete! Technology 05B: Emigrant Ships: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtechnology/MCRtechnology.php - fixed the misses and mistranslations, and whipped the translation into shape. There were also only a few changes between the two editions.
  3. Please refer to the References at the bottom of the page for sources.
  4. As he does. To do it otherwise would make one craaaazy when actually trying to read it.
  5. Correction: my RPG site. Linky: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/Flightsuits/Flightsuits.php#MF
  6. RM++ Project: Character F SMS 02B Ozuma Lee: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#MF - a lot of interesting tidbits about Ozuma's past and their current significance. Mechanic: II UN 05A: Unified Forces Armaments: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#MII - as usual with MII stuff, it's quite light on detail.
  7. RM++ Project: Episode: Plus 05A & B: Macross Plus Movie Edition: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M+ - the run down and analysis of some of the changes in the movie version are quite interesting.
  8. It's also somewhat of a legal grey area (as opposed to, say, US copyright law). In short, in Japan there is creator's rights and financial rights. Creator rights are inalienable (as in Kawamori retains the copyright to the Macross designs) and financial rights (as in Tatsunoko sold their financial rights). It gets more confusing when it comes to the people who came up with the idea, and the people who put in the work to produce the idea (which is why Big West and Tatsunoko went to trial, and the judgment was that Tatsunoko had the financial rights because they put in the work in getting the animation produced). Doujinshi can definitely fall afoul of Creator's rights, but when it comes to financial rights, things get murky, fast. Not to mention that any settlement is probably much lower than the legal costs involved and could ultimately have a negative effect on financial rights in general (like what happened with the SDFM footage)... But yeah, I fully agree that HG is going about things a$$-first as usual and shooting themselves in the foot in the process.
  9. RM++ Project: Episode: M24A & B: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Eps. 24 "Goodbye Girl": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#SDFM - some nice details that round out the Hayase family. Complete! Mechanic: All 01B: VF Masterpieces Seen From Their Development Ancestry (VF-17 Series / VF-19 Series / VF-22 Series): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#all - another motherload of info on VFs. Its great to start getting some substantial details on such VFs as the VF-19ADVANCE and the VF-X-10.
  10. Sounds like what someone mentioned earlier in this thread - the HG legal department didn't look over the terms of their contracts with other parties very closely...
  11. Same thing as happened to the VF-19 as I posted earlier in this thread. There were already VF-17A to C (being that they had under-powered engines is beside the point) and the VF-17D was the production model at the time of Diamond Force's formation.
  12. I think he's talking about the real world there, not the fictional Macross one. Anyhow, while having dinner I realized that I had just translated something on the differences between the VF-1A/J/S (man, too busy these days...): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/All01aVFmasterpiecesVF-1.php#reverseL That sheet is teh sex. It also has the differences between the models in point form!
  13. Actually, there are a lot of differences. Aside from the S being commanding officer specification (with enhanced C&C capabilities, better engines and so on), it and the J type are made with better materials than the A type. On the surface the details might not look to different, but there are inherent differences in quality (one interpretation is that the A type is more prone to wearing out and/or breaking). Also, aside from the increased armaments (the dual head lasers) on the J type, there are a bunch of sources that state that it is the only VF capable of supporting the VF-1's armour pack (supported on screen by the lone appearance of a VF-1J in DYRL being the one that's in the armour). Not surprising as the J type and the Armour pack have the same development manufacturer. If memory serves, the F in the VF-25F stands for Fighter (as in all the different models of VF-25 are specialized in some way, and the VF-25F is specialized in manoeuvrability and other things that give it an edge over the other ones in combat). The VF-19F is easier to explain: there are VF-19A,B,C,D and E models. It's simply the next available model designation. (A and C more closely resembling the YF-19, B and D being the two seater variants of the C and D, respectively, and the E being an experimental type for the F and S, not to mention the base for the VF-19 Kai).
  14. RM++ Project: History M 04B: The Zentraadi Invasion: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#SDFM - some nice summaries and expansions on background details. Timeline 40A: The Threat Of Sybil (7): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - the RM's seem like they are repeating info available on other pages...
  15. Complete! Mechanic: 7 UN 12A: Macross 7 Fleet Transports: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#M7 - a handful of small changes on the sheet - namely the title! (How often does that happen?) The really yucky mistranslations have also been sorted.
  16. RM++ Project: Worldguide 18A: Galactic Whales: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php - a nice summary of D7 in the RM. The rest of the content looks interesting (alas, time...)
  17. Aside from the Revised Edition? No. The closest would be "Tenjin Hidetaka Valkyries Second Sortie", and even then, there's only a handful of images from the magazine.
  18. RM++ Project: Mechanic: Plus UN 03A: VF-11B Thunderbolt: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#M+ - cleaned up the parts that I had translated (some yucky errors). No real differences between the two versions.
  19. I agree that the directing, writing and production value leave things to be desired, but your wrong on it not improving canon. The creative staff behind M7 had the courage to not emulate the concepts of SDFM, but actually develop them, expand upon them, and take them toward one logical conclusion. The direction that they took those concepts aren't everyone's cup of tea, but one can say the same thing about how Star Trek DS9 is the ultimate evolution of the concepts behind Star Trek and not every ST fan likes that series and the direction it took. M7 mechanical designs are some of the best that have been produced for Macross. I can appreciate that you don't like the details or whatever about them (and that's a fair opinion). However, when viewed artistically, specifically in terms of economy of line and ease of understanding the shapes and pieces of the designs, they are the pinnacle of VF designs (contrast the line-art of the VF-19 Kai with the mess that is the SV-51 to get a better idea). Another way to look at it is: almost every game/manga/anime produced after Macross 7 used aspects of its story and mechanical designs. Some *cough* Macross F *cough* downright copied them. Quite ageist, aren't we? I guess you haven't heard of Malala Yousafzai.
  20. Finally the FBz-99 is getting justice! Hopefully the other Varohta Fighters will eventually get painted, too. The page on MtR in today's issue (#53) looks like it gives a nice rundown of the serial (why couldn't the games get their own, one wonders), and it looks like there will be a B page (this page covers the VF-19ACTIVE, SV-52γ, VF-1X++, VF-0 Kai, and the YF-27-5 along with their pilots, some of the supporting characters and a Related Matter on Fasces). Oh, there's also a 3 page (!) Goods "article" on the 2009 Macross SD Launch Ceremony (rounded out with pictures of a pineapple cake of all things).
  21. Technically, how much Chiba Songs someone has comes down to the 'conduit' they have with the sub-universe - and this falls in the realm of the writers (in the sense of "because they said it's so"), and not the talent per se. That said, I think the contrast between the two singers was a good match. After all, if everyone sounds the same, what's the point?
  22. Space is vast. I remember hearing a line on one of the Discovery shows that amounts to: galaxies collide all the time. The chance that any of the stars in the galaxies actually hitting each other in the collision is extremely rare.
  23. RM++ Project: Timeline 39A: The Objective Of The Varohta Forces (7): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - a nice refresher of the series. Not sure if the suppositions on how Miria got her VF-1J into the Macross 7 have been mentioned before, but it is an interesting alternative to her having bought/being given it. Episode: 7 34A & B: Macross 7 Eps. 34 "The Day That Gigiru Sang.": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 - some nice highlighting of the directing of the episode - as well as the background of Gigiru's VA (and how civilian Gamlin acquired his VF-17S is an interesting contrast with how Miria got her VF-1J). Episode: F16A & B: Macross F Eps. 16 "Ranka Attack": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MF - most interesting is the highlighting of the background characters and their in series continuity. On the other hand, was it ever mentioned in FB7 who the Protodevilun was that was visiting S.M.S.? MC gives a specific name for that Protodevilun.
  24. The GERWALK mode has been occasionally described as a "Heavy Attack Helicopter" (specifically the VF-0, but generally applicable to all). As a helicopter that transforms into a plane already exists (V-22 Osprey), it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to make a jet transform into something like a helicopter. Though, it'll probably look nothing like a VF in GERWALK and probably a lot like the VTOL Attack Aircraft in Eva...
