Funny, as the forest reminded me of a more arid one South of the border in say the Appalachian Mountains, or Colorado. Mind you, as someone from the West Coast rain forest, my image of a Canadian forest is something like this:

Whoa. That's a big no-no. Are you sure those are wallets they are leaving? One always takes ones wallet (read valuables) when one leaves their belongings at the table (etc.) in Japan. ALWAYS. It sucks what happened. Nevertheless, did you report it to the local Koban?

RM++ Project: Episode: 7 27A & B: Macross 7 Eps. 27 "The Seven Colours Of Song Energy.": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 - some interesting points of note. Especially another Macross character based on a real person. Complete: Gallery F: Macross F (Frontier) #43: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRgallery/MCRgallery.php#MF - as usual, light on info.

The composition of the image is great (the helicopters carrying water to extinguish the fire are a neat touch), but it has too much of a Star Wars Eps. III feel to it (out of control spaceship crash lands skids and burns on a planet but is basically undamaged). The creator of the image obviously neglected the original animation: beyond the aforementioned organic look, there's also the speed that the ASS-1 came in at (aside from its shock wave knocking over skyscrapers, it also lobbed off the top 1,000 m of Mt. Everest!) and the impact crater itself caused the US forces facility (a radar monitoring post, if memory serves) to be obliterated, along with half of the island - which begs the question: where did those fire fighting rigged helicopters come from?

RM++ Project: Episode: Plus 04A: Macross Plus "Episode 4": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M+ - the topics are kinda redundant for those who pay attention to things, but the Commentary is quite nostalgic. Complete: Mechanic: FB UN 01A: SDF-2 Megaroad 01: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#FB - the changes between the two editions are quite expansive. On the other hand, although they fixed some of the errors, there are still a couple that were missed! Nevertheless, given how long the Megaroad 01 appeared on screen, the information they give on it (and the initial version of the SDF-2, which never appeared!) is satisfying.

Let's not forget that the writers of the Master File books indicate that the info in the books are not part of the official setting (ref: dotted-line box on the credits page of the books).

RM++ Project: Timeline 32A: Late Night Accident (Plus): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - not only does the RM give the gist of the internal report, it also rounds Guld's character out a bit more, AND provides a bit more context to Isamu's fight with the Lost Zentraadi at the start of Plus. Talk about a powerhouse RM! Worldguide 17B: Protodevilun: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php - another revelation - what exactly was Natta-Barugo?

RM++ Project: Character M UN 04A: Maximilian Jiinasu: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#SDFM - the extra report provides a few more hints on Macross's "great blank period" between SDFM and M+. Alas, its quite vague.

Complete: Mechanic: Ai Citizen 01A: Civilian Vehicles: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#DYRL - only a few small changes between the editions. RM++ Project: Glossary 12A: CVS-101 Prometheus - Gravity Control System: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRglossary/MCRglossary.php - lots of goodies. My favourite is the description of the Gravity Mines (as it neatly explains why the SDF-1 was stuck, but the VFs could fly).

RM++ Project: Episode: M18A: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Eps. 18 "Pineapple Salad": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#SDFM - THAT epic Macross episode. Also, some of the real world effects to Fokker's death are... surprising. Episode: F12A: Macross F Eps. 12 "Fastest Delivery": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MF - one of MF's iconic episodes. Alas, it more or less highlights that the portrayal of the Zentraadi in Macross has gone the route of the Klingons and other Star Trek aliens in the subsequent series. Nevertheless, the topic on the SDFM and DYRL equipment got me thinking: there's probably no in-universe reason for it, but on the visual design side, it donned on me that the moderate faction gets the relatively down to Earth SDFM Zentraadi uniforms, and the radical faction gets the more dangerous looking DYRL Zentraadi uniforms for the simple reason of easing the viewers differentiation of the two factions (neatly answering the "who am I looking at now?" questions in the uninitiated).

RM++ Project: Episode: M 00A: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Production Data: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#SDFM - yowzers. This turned into an unexpected marathon. What looked short in the revised edition, turned out to have a lot of altered (and removed!) contact compared to the original! On the other hand, comparing the two versions is interesting. I wouldn't quite say that the revised edition is "dumbed down", but more non-fan friendly. On the other hand, some of the changes are inexplicable.

And North Korea has been broadcasting propaganda songs to the south via loudspeaker for even longer. Either way, I think the sonic weapons (LRAD) used to fight off pirates is more akin to Macross - especially the Macross 7 version. http://www.spiegel.de/international/spiegel/the-weapon-of-sound-sonic-canon-gives-pirates-an-earful-a-385048.html

RM++ Project: Technology 16A: Spacesuits: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtechnology/MCRtechnology.php - most interesting are the subtle changes in the Zentraadi Spacesuits RM. Complete: Worldguide 12A: Super Long Range Emigrant Fleets: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php - this is quite nostalgic for me, as the first MC page I worked on. Quite a learning curve (Japanese) and eye opening (what the VA's are *really* saying, as well as the large concepts and themes behind the series). All the errors, mis-translations and so forth are now gone (hey, it was my "first"). Enjoy.

They most likely noticed it. Also, they most likely didn't produce one because of 1) the lack of market (MII wasn't exactly that popular, and it definitely didn't have staying power), and 2) the cost to get the rights to make models for MII.

Agreed (go here, destroy this. go there, destroy that). On the other hand, it highlights the creative process, as well as how much better the organization of the events in the finished TV series were!

RM++ Project: Character F Citizen 01C: Ranka Lee: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#MF - a bit light on details, but one of the additions in the revised edition is Ranka's father in the family photo (something about his appearance him reminds me a lot of Ozuma...).

It's possible, and there are a lot of tutorials. But, just like anything, it requires tons of practice. (I got as far as making nebula. I wanted to get layers of galactic dust mixed in too, but no one has come up with an appropriate tutorial for that (using only 2D Photoshop image manipulation effects).)

Live Action Space Battleship Yamato
sketchley replied to capt.actionjackson's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Are you watching straight-up dramas (e.g. Summer Nude) or something else, like variety shows (e.g. Warai Ii To Omou)? If it's the later, than yes, they are deliberately being outrageous and over the top.- 450 replies

RM++ Project: Episode: 7 26A: Macross 7 Eps. 26 "Planet Rax's Struggle To The Death.": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 - some interesting stuff. I especially like the commentary on the pineapple salad jinx. Very Macross-y. Complete: Mechanic: TF etc 02A: Macross Galaxy Fleet: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/TFetc02bMacrossGalaxyFleet.php - some interesting things that round out the vilification of the Galaxy Fleet's upper management. Well, there shouldn't be a problem with using a NASA image of a spiral galaxy (they're in the public domain, right). Just use the Adjustments > Hue/Saturation, and Free Transform to modify it to your needs. The Triangulum Galaxy already matches the galaxy you used (sans large egg yolk center) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:M33HunterWilson09.jpg It's also got plenty of texture in the center that should nicely contrast with the solid colours of the characters.
