It'll be interesting how many (if any) my usual shop brought in - as it doesn't look like very many of the VF-1 and Strike Pack sets moved after I picked up mine. (Before anyone jumps all over these new kits: the store also has handfuls of the VF-25S Armour Pack, Macross Armour Factory, 1/144 VF-25/VF-29 and so on in stock from way back when. In short, it's Macross itself, not these new kits per se, that are not selling like hotcakes.) -

The the guy behind it became uninterested in Macross, and stopped maintaining/updating it a few years back. Those of us left on Macross Roleplay Galaxies, which shared the same host, decided to shift to a lower cost host about a year ago, and when that change happened, the UNSD went offline. I can't say about anyone else, but it doesn't bother me - namely because aside from occasional posts about it in MW (like this thread), I ignore it. That said, I kinda liked the direction that the Waltrip brothers were taking the Sentinels just before they lost the contract (in the sense of liking that they took the series in a new direction that wasn't in the novels and replaced the Regent's essentially unarmed Organics with armed whatevers). But after the first few issues of AP's comic version, let alone the semi-reboot Shadow whatever, I completely gave up on it. It's so bad that I can't even take the RPG version of it seriously, which should be the best version of it...

There are still movies like that being made. "District 9" is the first to come to mind. "Three Kings" is next (yeah, 1999 isn't exactly recent, but it's certainly more recent than 1987).
