They're checking the publisher's site, the Macross 30 site, etc.. A more thought provoking question for me is: why are they releasing information on the titles so far in advance? Is it to drum up sales (as the magazine has all but disappeared from bookstores - due to lack of sales)?

Or it could be echoing the French Maginot Line or the German Atlantic Wall... and the ultimate failure of defensive tactics like that.

Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
sketchley replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
Who says that they didn't already do that? Question: do you know how much it costs to do a translation (inclusive of proofreading)? ¥10-¥16 per word appears to be the current going rates for low-end translations (you know, the type that appears in the BD). That's not including things like shipping the materials to/from the translation agency, and the time spent preparing the materials to be translated, liaising with the translator, negotiating the contract, paying the bill, and internal company accounting. [and it's completely ignoring things like timing, and the limitations of what the average viewer can read and comprehend while watching (ie: no more than 2 lines of simple text that capture the gist of what's being said; and working the translation into such narrow parameters]. So you're $0 to $200 figure is laughable, at best. Nevertheless, I'm going to reiterate what someone said earlier in this thread: you just can't satisfy some people.- 516 replies

ER/RM++ Project: TF01C & D: Macross F Theatrical Edition ~The False Diva~: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#TMF - this sheet was a bit nostalgic. In the sense of "this brings back memories of Tochiro's Pacifico report" and "remember when the YF-25 kit was released". COMPLETE: Episode: 7 00A: Macross 7 Opening/Ending: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 - Hmmm... did anyone else get that from the opening clip (that it traces the story of the series)? Technology 13A: Dimension Weapons: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRtechnology/MCRtechnology.php - I honestly wasn't planning to do the full sheet. But when the title "What Is Heavy Quantum?" came up, I just new this sheet would be pwned. The pseudo-science explanation also makes sense, in the Star Trek kind of way (you know, like how they have the Heisenberg compensator, but not how they actually compensate for the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle).

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
sketchley replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
The only places the manual states you must glue are on the pilot figure and the two reverse-thruster blisters on the upper legs. Though, the lower legs and the cockpit probably need a bit of glue on some of the joint (erm, seams) - as they are both loaded with panels that open, and are connected to parts that twist, it's only a matter of time before some of the smaller pieces in them fall out. Surprisingly, there aren't that many removable parts. That said, I agree with you that some of the gimmicks probably aren't needed. and... QFT: EDIT: GAH. Auto combine posts feature messes with formats... thus this being added to clarify that what follows is not part of what came before. Isn't it the hard-core modellers that are offended by it and the Gunpla builders satisfied with it? Also, Bandai has been working on it for months and months and months. With Kawamori-san's approval. How did it get rushed? Why are they waiting until September to release the Super Packs and VF-1S if they're rushing it to market? Also, how is Bandai forcing it down anyone's throat? Everyone has the option of not buying it... -

ER/RM++ Project: Timeline 20A: The Revival Of The Earth: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - was only planning to do the ER/RM, but ended up doing most of the front - and I'm glad I did. Lots of goodies on the 2 year "fast forward" in the series. A highlight is the revelation that the surviving allied Zentraadi outnumber the surviving Earthlings! (Alas, they don't give a specific number of survivors once more.)

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann

Blah blah blah Duymon has the right idea. Some parts of this kit do need a few drops of glue in the right place. Floppiness? Everyone knows the cure for that - clear nail polish. -

ER/RM++ Project: Character: II 00A "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II ~ Lovers Again" Character Interrelation Chart/Triangle Timeline: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#MII - I was all excited that we would find out what happened to the trio after the series... and the sheet only really recycles what happened at the end of the series when they separated. Bummer. Worldguide 09A: Macross City: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php - The related matter section was a bit of a no-brainer. However, some of the descriptions of the city on the reverse more than made up for it.

Gah!) The main manga in Newtype Ace are being released online at http://www.nicovideo.jp/ I'm not a big fan of online only publications, but the conversion to online releases of this magazine's main manga should make it easier for overseas readers of them to get them. It's free to register and read the manga on a PC - though there is a rather lengthy wait... EDIT: direct link to Kadokawa Niconico Ace: http://info.nicovideo.jp/seiga/nicoace/?track=hensei_tab9_title

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
sketchley replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Inwards? I'm talking about up and down (vertical placement not inward cant). FYI: the legs on mine touch the underside of the wings when they're fully swept back. The highest point doesn't go above the plane of the wings. -

Apparently you've assembled it wrong, because you've got the top of the engine nacelles ABOVE the wings. Thank you for the rational response. It's the irrational responses bitching about fallacies with the kit that got the ball of wax rolling. -
ER/RM++ Project: Mechanic: Zero UN 06A ADR-03-MkIII Cheyenne: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#M0 - satisfyingly expanded in the revised edition. The new stuff certainly rounds out the sheet, and fills in some of the gaps left in the original. Character: M UN 09A People Of The Earth Unified Forces: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRcharacter/MCRcharacter.php#SDFM - gotta love that Grand Cannon. Odd that they tuck it in as a Related Matter on a character sheet... would've preferred something on what happened to Riber.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
sketchley replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
It's a backlash against all the negativity. Seriously, after Graham posted that we should all get along, how many long winded opinion posts have their been? How many Bnadai rants? How many on the actual build experience and finished kit by people who actually own and have built the kit? I think I'm going to start ignoring this thread for its lack of constructive posts (echoing WM Cheng from 24+ hours ago)... -
Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
sketchley replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
This is very true. I have a pair of unbuilt Hasegawa battroids (VF-1 and VF-0), that have been gathering dust for well over half a decade in the closet. I recently restarted on the VF-1 (had originally finished the arms before losing interest/being overwhelmed with the painting required), but got as far as mostly assembled because the shoulder pegs broke (I'm putting that down to the glue I used when I first did the kit, as some of those glued parts started to separate (!)). Long story short, I got overwhelmed by the kit again after installing newly fabricated shoulder pegs. This VF-1 kit is, after 3 sittings, almost complete (just gotta assemble the last leg and gun pod), and what's completed so far is kilometres ahead of the similar stage that the Hasegawa kit is at. So, I fully agree that this kit is aimed for casual modellers like me. That said, the majority of the pieces that fall off when handled can be solved by more careful handling (it isn't a toy after all) and a few drops of glue on the right places. I'm going to have to unearth my crusty old modelling skills from 25+ years ago (when I was much more "hardcore") to figure out the best way to seal some of the gaps in the leg (the problem seems to be stemming from slight miss-alignments in assembly and the natural springy property of so many pieces of plastic being snapped together wanting to seperate). All in all, the kit is quite satisfying as the joints for the knee cover are fairly firm (after a few transformations, the VF-27's knee covers went floppy and never recovered), and nothing's broken so far (can't say the same when I was at this stage on the VF-27...) The main point of frustration on the build comes from the hands (but they're basically the same as Bandai's MG kits - the Zeta Gundam had similar ones), and figuring out the instructions - even being able to understand Japanese, the pictures still require some deciphering. And I'm not a fan of these grey-scale 3DCG instructions. Give me B&W lineart instructions! I also fully agree that the VF-1S head is on the bloated side of things (I'm building the VF-1A head, and by golly, it rocks - which is head and shoulders above the cannon fodder VF-27's head; never could get that to fit into the fuselage right.) The knee covers are also the one place that I would've liked to have seen something a bit different, but I fully recognize that they are the way they are out of compromise - there's just too much other stuff going on in the upper and lower legs! Anyhow, I'm sure any of the "hardcore" modellers worth their salt could improve upon and fix some of those places with a sharp blade, putty, and plaplate. -
Serious suckage. Unknown about the fate, or even if a lack of sales was a problem (though, a lack of it appearing causing a decline in sales is definitely a given.) I have my suspicions that the magazine's cancellation is due to the declining interest in Tiger Bunny - as the magazine has featured anywhere from 2 to 4 TB serializations in any given issue! Anyhow... The blurb about the fate of MtF amounts to: check at the following site for updates on MtF: Macross 30th Project Site: http://macross30.com Kadokawa's internal Macross site: http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/title/?t_id=000037

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
sketchley replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Hey, don't lump us "casual" modellers with the toy lovers! It's those toy lovers that are doing the hating, with their perception that it's a successor/rival/whatever to what Yamato/etc have produced over the years. As a self-professed casual modeller, I quite like this kit. Especially since I haven't broken anything on it (yet. Fingers crossed, knock on wood). Which puts it light-years ahead of Bandai's VF-25/27 line (carnage, carnage, carnage). Actually, you only need to glue the reverse thrusters on the upper legs. 2 pieces. Painting? All the stickers/decals you need come with the kit. Sure, panel lining will spruce it up, but if you're not inclined, you don't *really* need to do it. (For the purposes of this discussion, I'm pretending the included figures don't exist ). -
Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
sketchley replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Then you missed the point I was making. The postee was hating on the nose precisely because he was under the impression that the tip of the nose was not sliced off - because of a single picture that was at an angle that was unflattering to the mould - and the pic was low rez. I'd say it's a little of column A, with a lot of column B - hating on a brand name is so pastiche these days. Anyhow, 'nuf on the hating stuff. Off to contemplate how to strategically glue the leg assembly. The snap-build is decent, the gaps that open between the pieces when the leg is manipulating are not. -
Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
sketchley replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
They haven't, and are basing their hate on low rez pictures. E.g.: the hate on the shape of the nose and how it repeats Bandai's earlier reprints, when the sliced-off nose-tip faithfully emulates the anime. -
RM/ER++ Project - Episodes: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php Episode: M11A: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Eps. 11 "First Contact" - quite surprised at the amount of pen-name action going on. Nevertheless, we get the origins of the term "Protoculture". Episode: D702A: Macross Dynamite 7 Volume. 2 "Graveyard -cemetery-" - the commentary is a little bit on the meh side. It touches on some of the more "audacious" scenes of the episode, and doesn't do anything with it. Surprisingly, the most interesting part, IMHO, is the song list and its notes.
