RM++ Project: Timeline 38A: Fire Bomber Dances Ahead (7): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtimeline/MCRtimeline.php - some interesting character stuff. Though, not really groundbreaking. Complete! Mechanic: F etc 01B: Vajra: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRmechanic/MCRmechanic.php#MF - finally the Vajra "spaceships" get a decent amount of coverage. Alas, its consistent with the M7/MF background mechanics (= lacking in specifics). The RM on the Protoculture and Vajra is a *bit* more satisfying than the History sheet I finished yesterday. And then there are the sheet's typos and editing errors... >.<

RM++ Project: History: TF 03A: The Battle To Capture The Vajra Nest: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#TMF - I was hoping that the RM On the Vajra and Zentraadi would give us some insight on their relationship between each other (Ie Why do they fight each other if the Protoculture worshipped one of them and created the other?). Alas, no such luck.

Well, I meant the comment more along the lines of "I was surprised that they weren't in the same physical space when they made the album". Nevertheless, thanks for confirming that its the exact same story (I had suspicions that that was so from reading comments elsewhere in MW earlier in the week). Though, it begs the question: did Fire Bomber use Vajra Fold Quartz enabled Zero-Time Fold Communication in the process of making the Re.Fire album? If so, does that mean the tech is being disseminated to the point that anyone can use it? Kawamori-san: have you taken your base concept of Macross 7 and F's "Great Age Of Discovery with e-mail" and added Skype to it?

RM++ Project: Worldguide 08A: The First Interstellar War: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRworldguide/MCRworldguide.php - although the RM's add a lot of relevant tidbits to the sheet, none of them are truly 'new'. That said, the headlines do provide another way to look at the in-universe history.

Macross Frontier Movies BD Boxset WITH ENGLISH SUBS!
sketchley replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Are you SURE yours isn't region locked, too? I mean, tried watching a European or Indian BD? Region A/1: The Americas (except Greenland) and their dependencies, East Asia (except mainland China and Mongolia), and Southeast Asia. Region B/2: Africa, Middle East, Southwest Asia, Europe (except Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan), Australia, New Zealand, and their dependencies. Region C/3: Central Asia, East Asia (mainland China and Mongolia only), South Asia, Eastern Europe (Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan only), and their dependencies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes- 287 replies

Robotech x Voltron crossover... what the...I don't even...
sketchley replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Fixed (its an ongoing thing. The kids keep the textbooks and new ones are made each year). But that's not actually the problem. Read this for more: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21226068 -
Robotech x Voltron crossover... what the...I don't even...
sketchley replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Knowledge on history is deplorable in Japan. Let's not get started on it. Let's just leave it at: the dude probably doesn't know the full meaning of the symbol (as in it's recognized as the star or circle on the wings of Allied aircraft, and isn't recognized as the symbol of the Neo-Nazi movement), further convoluted by it's use (not at a 45° angle!) as a Buddhist symbol, and to indicate the location of Buddhist temples on some maps (note that this use predates the Nazi use and has a lot of benevolent connotations). Given that I've mentioned the Nazis in this post, does this mean that I've lost the argument? (or is that comparing someone (or someone's argument) to the Nazis?) -
RM++ Project: Episode: M22A & B: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Eps. 22 "Love Concert": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#SDFM - some gold in it. Especially the first 'appearances'. Episode: D704A & B: Macross Dynamite 7 Volume. 4 "The Star That Sings The Galactic Whales -Zola-": http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#MD7 - the highlight of the sheet is the description of what happened to Fire Bomber after D7. Yes, they made Re.Fire, but how they did it (in-universe) is still surprising.

Of all the designs you made, the one for the Phalanx is the best - probably because its torso is the least deformed in Fighter/GERWALK (retaining both a lot of armour strength and internal space (one of the, if not the best point of the 04 series)), and you've added enough to the Destroid/Battroid form to have effectively created something new based on the old (like the VB-6 and the Monster). That said, you've got arms located in the missile launcher exhaust ports and removed the rapidly exchangeable missile loads in the launcher. Perhaps adding a similar sized box in front? Or better, integrating the FAST Pack-like micro-missile launchers into the missile launcher pods and adding VF-25 Super Part shoulder launchers to the top and bottoms of those FAST Pack-like parts (thereby attaining better aerodynamics, retaining the Missile Circus aspect of the Phalanx, and making more room in the pods themselves for thermonuclear turbine engines and their required fuel load. Also, have you thought about incorporating one of the alternative "heads"? See 2b, 2c, and 2d here for examples (if memory serves, they're all penned by Kazutaka Miyatake): http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/Phalanx/Phalanx.php#OFFENSIVE_SYSTEMS

It's a shame that publications up to now haven't touched on them (especially "Shoji Kawamori's Macross Design Works". Hopefully the Macross Chronicle Revised Edition will have something on them - especially because of their role in the evolution of the design concepts.

Issue #50 is out. Picking it up, I noticed that the SRP was missing from the cover. Initially I thought it was because they rushed the issue out, but it turns out it was removed from the 48th issue (damn Abe and the 2% consumption tax increase!) Next issue - due out Jan. 07 - stickers for binders #6 and #7 (that's the big spine number, not the smaller content stickers).

RM++ Project: Heroine Gallery: Ranka Lee x VF-0S / Sheryl Nome x VF-25F: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRheroine/MCRheroine.php - I swear, Sheryl Nome looks like Misa Hayase... History: F 06A: Vajra Fleet Attack: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRhistory/MCRhistory.php#MF - positively loaded with goodies. Not only do we get more details on the 117th Investigation Fleet, but also a relatively specific description of Dimension Eaters. Technology 12A: Song Energy: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRtechnology/MCRtechnology.php - a bunch more goodies. Stuff on Dr. Chiba, the positive/negative of Spiritia, Minmei's estimated Chiba Song rating and so on.

I think those forms are the most consistent with the original concept of the Destroids: mobile gun turrets!
-
Well, the VB-6 doesn't use the standard terms (Fighter, GERWALK, Battroid), either. If memory serves, it's Shuttle, Heavy GERWALK and Destroid (with Destroid being synonymous with Battroid - or in this case, a super-sized Battroid). So, you could get away with calling them Fighter, Heavy GERWALK (just to be different, but not unrecognizeably so), and Destroid (which is also consistent with the in-universe VB-6 naming pattern). Anyhow, some art critiques: - some of the artwork looks very crisply scanned, and others look washed out. Adjusting Image > Adjustments > Levels (in PS) is the easiest and quickest fix for that, and will improve presentation tenfold. - some of the Fighter designs come across as too close to the Variable Glaug and VB-6's shuttle form, for me. It is apparent that you put a lot of effort into them, but they don't have the same 'wow' as, for example, the VB-6's Destroid Monster form turning into a space shuttle That said, having scorpions and other insects as the GERWALK form is inspired (plenty of 'wow'), and the consistency between the Destroids is a nice touch. Perhaps reworking the base Destroid form so that they work better in Fighter form would be worthwhile? (like how some of the square edges were turned into curves, and parts that suggested the shuttle form were added to the other forms when Kawamori-san turned the Destroid Monster into the VB-6).

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
sketchley replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
GERWALK is the best. Simply because there is nothing else available remotely close to its look and quality in that form [for those that don't: I'm talking about plastic model kits ONLY]. -
RM++ Project: Episode: 7 31A & B: Macross 7 Eps. 31 "Ardent Love Scandal." : http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRepisode/MCRepisode.php#M7 - the topics are quite fun - M7's prediction of the future ('tablet terminals'), and a bit of insight on what exactly Barugo's Familiars are.

Do you know what those others are using? If so, you might be able to send the image to them in its native file format (along with any non-standard fonts that you've used in creating it) for the best image results. Eg: as the graphic designer of a company I worked at way back when, I regularly sent the image files for bottle labels (the glamorous life of graphic designer, eh) in the native Illustrator format to the label or sleeve printers. Of course, if you're using a lot of (or only!) raster graphics, than PNG and the other lossless formats are still probably the more convenient option.
-
JPEG is annoying because it became the standard format for such things as digital cameras and camera phones - as what is being saved is only something around 10 to 25% of what the camera actually perceives. However, JPEG is handy, in that it keeps download speeds high and bandwidth low (not that anyone gives those things much of a thought anymore). It's also usefully for publicly releasing images on the internet (where its lossy nature is actually a blessing, as it improves ones ability to verify that they are the owner (aka: creator) of the image [in the sense that its easy to downgrade an image into JPEG, but quite difficult to upgrade JPEG into a higher resolution lossless format]). Anyhow, MechTech, what about exporting those images into PDF? PDF saves vector graphics (including text) as a math equation (more or less). Which could produce a smaller file size than PNG (and other lossless formats).
-
Nah. More people need to quality why they chose what they did, that's all. After a while, stopped reading the nominees, and skip straight to the text - as that's more interesting.
