  1. I always said that these movies would spell the end of the TF toy line producing any kind of quality toys.
  2. Am I the only one, that wants to articulate those cannons and use the model as chop sticks, assuming its the right size?
  3. I would agree that Peri is one of, if not the, hottest companion ever, but Clara is definitely up there too. THing is with Peri they were really exploiting her looks, I think she is the only companion that they consistently had in revealing outfits and bikinis. I would count Teela, but her leather getup was actually pretty covering, and she wasn't stacked like Peri.
  4. While I understand the hate on Donna, I actually liked her. She was what the doctor needed, especially after the longing puppy that was Martha Jones. The Doctor and Donna had an almost brother/sister relationship and her story arch came to a good conclusion at the end. Honestly, she could be used again after how they left her, in a way she could be part of the Gallifrey returns arc, if done correctly, but she would end up sacrificing herself in the process. I know my wife would vote Rory for worst companion of the modern series, she never liked him. But, me I liked Rory, but only after the Roman story arc. However I will say that Amy and Rory both started to seriously bug me towards the end, particularly after the Battle of Demon's Run. While they were reunited with Melody/River in the next episode/series, there was never any fallout about loosing their daughter beyond that. Amy especially should have been constantly reminded of the loss every time they encountered a child in need. Instead the only mention of it is at the Dalek Asylum when she says that her inability to bear children was why she was divorcing Rory. I'm a parent, and if something happened to one of my kids like that, you better believe I would continue to go after the doctor to get them back, especially as a child. That is why I would vote her as the worst companion amongst other reasons. I like and dislike all the companions for various reasons, but I think it is important to note why the modern Dr Who focuses so much on the companions and their relationships with the doctor. Female viewers. Many female viewers do not like the old series becuase the Doctor's relationships with his companions were so cold. Adding a sense of longing/romance to the characters draws in more female viewers. My wife and I have gone back and forth on this many times, and even she likes the relationship with Clara, because, while she loves the doctor, she is not in love with him, more like a good/best friend. Amy bugged us both because she just wanted to bang the doctor. River worked as his "wife" because she was the closest to a female timelord he'd encountered in this timeline. Donna, neither of us liked at first until we saw the more bro/sis relationship. Martha, we liked for her smarts, but disliked for her unrequited love. Mikey, he was a whiner, but he had his good points, and was probably the weakest companion. Capt Jack, was so awesome he got his own short lived series, and needs to come back in some form. And Rose, I never liked the love story with Rose, not a first, but it did grow on me and ended the only way it could.
  5. I applaud the fan effort for sure and will like to see it, but come on guys, could you at least have used a yammie to make your valk model?
  6. That trailer had more cheese then my last pizza
  7. ANyone here played Space Engineers? It looks interesting and might even have full newtonian physics. I was thinking of building some of my designs in it to see how they handle, but understand it has problems with really big ships. Anyone here play with it and can verify?
  8. this build is great, can't wait to see more
  9. Tropic Thunder is not a Tom Cruise movie, he is in it, but he is not the focus. Cruise can make some good movies, but I don't like what I see so far with this one. I mean why make an exoskeleton like that with no additional armor to protect the pilot. It's almost as bad as those stupid mechs in the Matrix sequels. Also, care chases, really why? Were the battles scenes not enough?
  10. I think the general concesus is that those are turrets that the macross was rebuilt with. IIRC they even open up like a smaller scale macross cannon. As for the destroid mounts, those are in various places across the ship, I would be willing to be that you could find Destroid "mounts" in place of destroyed turrets as the story went on, but those weren't shown.
  11. Wow, that looks like someone took the excellent IMHO Dean Koontz Frankenstein continuation novels and crap all over them.
  12. Maybe with better casting and a powered suit that didn't look like ass... The source material is interesting
  13. Looks interesting, we can trust the W sibs to turn out some impressive visuals, let's just see if the story matches.
  14. Interesting, but I really don't care for the designs, not aerodynamic at all, and the transformations are straight up transformerish with little regard to kibble, or engine placement.
  15. What about Cyc and Jean. an Apocalypse movie without them will suck.
  16. Consider this: http://www.mstarz.com/articles/14635/20130618/man-steel-2013-spoilers-scientist-calculates-death-toll-financial-cost.htm short form: MoS total losses, human and financial: 129k Dead 250k MIA 1 Million Missing Financial damage to infrastructure: $700 Billion in Damages, no mention of cleanup cost Compare to the Avengers: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/avengers-damage-manhattan-would-cost-160-billion-322486 Financial Tole: $70 Billion in damages, $90B in clean up, total: $160B No mention of death toll. Looking simply at those numbers the financial damages in Avengers were 10% that of MoS, and we can assume that the death toll was similarly low. However given that there was an evacuation in the Avengers, my own calculations for damages and losses, for my Safety Engineer MS, and came up with similar numbers fro MoS. My own numbers for Avengers civilian deaths were (High end, assuming evacuations): Dead: 20k MIA: 40k Injured: 150k
  17. That is one of the reasons why USN and USMC decided not mount AMRAAMs on the wingtips of their hornets. The stress of carrier landings and takeoffs were stressing the airframe enough, putting additional strain on the wings would shorter their useful lives even more.
  18. Good points twoducks, also look at the end of the movies: Avengers: Cap-A returns to SHIELD to serve his country and presumably to aid in the rebuilding, possibly going into hiding first Thor takes Loki into custody back on Asgard, securing him away from Earth and further harm Black Widow and Hawkeye return to SHIELD to take their punishment Stark helps but Banner into hiding and the two of them start developing tech to fight the next alien invasion, including rebuilding Stark tower into the Avengers tower (presumably). Stark is likely not arrested because he is super rich. So 3 of the Avengers go into (forced?) government service with a shadow agency that keeps them hidden. 1 returns to his home planet to lock his brother 1 goes into hiding in the corp of a super rich guy to keep him secret 1 super rich guy escapes prosecution by likely spending millions or more on the rebuilding efforts of New York and helping those who were killed or injured. All of this partially because the Politicianss are arguing about whether or not to arrest them. Man of Steel: Superman blows up a government drone, then goes to work at the Daily Planet where no one seems all that upset that half the city has been destroyed. Where is the outrage overall the destruction? Now I did not hate MoS. I actually enjpoyed it and didn't hate on Supes killing Zod, I just disagree with how the battle was handled. Superman never comes off as really heroic with how it was done, nor does he ever seem to care about the wanton destruction.
  19. @myk, how about the fact that in the Avengers Capt America makes a point of telling the cops to evacuate the civilians, and keep the aliens and therefore the fighting in a limited area to prevent casualties and property damage. He even the makes a "housecall" to save the civilains taking shelter in the bank and see them to safety. Man of Steel did none of that. Never once did Supes break away from the fight to save some civvies or fly to the military and tell them to evac the people so he could engage Zod 1v1 in a limited area.
