  1. Maybe with better casting and a powered suit that didn't look like ass... The source material is interesting
  2. Looks interesting, we can trust the W sibs to turn out some impressive visuals, let's just see if the story matches.
  3. Interesting, but I really don't care for the designs, not aerodynamic at all, and the transformations are straight up transformerish with little regard to kibble, or engine placement.
  4. What about Cyc and Jean. an Apocalypse movie without them will suck.
  5. Consider this: http://www.mstarz.com/articles/14635/20130618/man-steel-2013-spoilers-scientist-calculates-death-toll-financial-cost.htm short form: MoS total losses, human and financial: 129k Dead 250k MIA 1 Million Missing Financial damage to infrastructure: $700 Billion in Damages, no mention of cleanup cost Compare to the Avengers: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/avengers-damage-manhattan-would-cost-160-billion-322486 Financial Tole: $70 Billion in damages, $90B in clean up, total: $160B No mention of death toll. Looking simply at those numbers the financial damages in Avengers were 10% that of MoS, and we can assume that the death toll was similarly low. However given that there was an evacuation in the Avengers, my own calculations for damages and losses, for my Safety Engineer MS, and came up with similar numbers fro MoS. My own numbers for Avengers civilian deaths were (High end, assuming evacuations): Dead: 20k MIA: 40k Injured: 150k
  6. That is one of the reasons why USN and USMC decided not mount AMRAAMs on the wingtips of their hornets. The stress of carrier landings and takeoffs were stressing the airframe enough, putting additional strain on the wings would shorter their useful lives even more.
  7. Good points twoducks, also look at the end of the movies: Avengers: Cap-A returns to SHIELD to serve his country and presumably to aid in the rebuilding, possibly going into hiding first Thor takes Loki into custody back on Asgard, securing him away from Earth and further harm Black Widow and Hawkeye return to SHIELD to take their punishment Stark helps but Banner into hiding and the two of them start developing tech to fight the next alien invasion, including rebuilding Stark tower into the Avengers tower (presumably). Stark is likely not arrested because he is super rich. So 3 of the Avengers go into (forced?) government service with a shadow agency that keeps them hidden. 1 returns to his home planet to lock his brother 1 goes into hiding in the corp of a super rich guy to keep him secret 1 super rich guy escapes prosecution by likely spending millions or more on the rebuilding efforts of New York and helping those who were killed or injured. All of this partially because the Politicianss are arguing about whether or not to arrest them. Man of Steel: Superman blows up a government drone, then goes to work at the Daily Planet where no one seems all that upset that half the city has been destroyed. Where is the outrage overall the destruction? Now I did not hate MoS. I actually enjpoyed it and didn't hate on Supes killing Zod, I just disagree with how the battle was handled. Superman never comes off as really heroic with how it was done, nor does he ever seem to care about the wanton destruction.
  8. @myk, how about the fact that in the Avengers Capt America makes a point of telling the cops to evacuate the civilians, and keep the aliens and therefore the fighting in a limited area to prevent casualties and property damage. He even the makes a "housecall" to save the civilains taking shelter in the bank and see them to safety. Man of Steel did none of that. Never once did Supes break away from the fight to save some civvies or fly to the military and tell them to evac the people so he could engage Zod 1v1 in a limited area.
  9. Changes in the battlespace created the need for an SR-72. The SR-71 was surpassed by sattelites finally having the data bandwidth and resolution to provide near real time imagery to the analysts that wasn't complete garbage. What we are seeing now is that hacking and jamming are coming into play much more, allowing our enemies to disrupt UAV operations. An SR-72 will be able to carry mission specific elint or strike packages at a speed that will allow it to strike almost anywhere in the world relatively quickly. Deployment of a probe droids via rocket is not a feasible plan. What happens to the rocket? It either crashs in enemy territory, creating an international incident, or self destructs, creating the same issue. The same goes for the mini-uav/probes and now you have handed our tech over to the enemy. Beyond that, the data transmission gear onboard the uav is not tiny people, especially if you want a satellite uplink.
  10. So when do the firefox and chrome girls come and pound her into the ground?
  11. Definitely see it in IMAX if you can. I just hope they come out with an extended edition DVD with more in the battleroom.
  12. So I finally had a chance to see Ender's Game last night. Overall impression, go see it, it was fantastic. The visuals were stunning and they had the right cast to bring it to life. Beyond that, i twas too short, run time was supposed to be 114 minutes, but that must have included the end credits, as our movie start at 4:15 and we were out by 6:00, including trailers. There needed to be at least 1 or two more battle room sequences. Still go see it whether you read the book or not. And if you haven't read the book go read it afterwards. Much better than ST: Into Darkness IMHO.
  13. Ok, other than the director at the beginning this trailer almost has me sold on this being a fun, maybe not good, but fun movie. I like the bit with SLJ asking why we can use ED robots overseas but not in america. It calls out the whole drone debate in the news nicely.
  14. What Abrams and CO should really focus on is what the core of star wars always was. The original trilogy, and less so the prequels were all about the Skywalker family. Watch the OT and find all the scenes that did not have a Skywalker in them, revealed or not, and yes I count the droids as members of the Skywalker family. In the OT they belonged to Leia, then went to Luke so they are part of the family. There are not many scenes without a Skywalker in them, it keeps the story close and tight to viewer. If it jumped around throughout the war it would lose viewers. Now jump to the prequels, look how few scenes, have a Skywalker in them. Now some will argue that Obi-Wan should count, but no, he was never a part of the family. Others may argue that the prequels should have revolved around Obi-Wan, wrong again, the focus of the prequels should have been the fall of Anakin and the rise of Vader . The OT was the redemption of Anakin/Vader through his children. The next trilogy needs to go back to the core of following the Skywalkers and their descendants, whether they be in city's the frontier, whatever.
  15. Ok I see the point, from a certain POV, but with the specs they've published why not go with a dual boot system, kind of like the old school Commodore 64 where if you had the game plugged into the back it booted up straight into the game. Obviously that wouldn't work with downloaded games but have something like two power buttons on the unit: #1 boots the system up in STEAM OS, straight up games, no surfing, no TV, no productivity, etc... #2 boots the system up in windows/linux so you can use the machine for productivity. Given that this unit is based so heavily on existing PC hardware why not that option?
  16. Ok, i have been out of the loop on this, but now reading that article I have to ask, what's the point? This is basically a nice gaming computer slammed into a small package with a controller that is unfamiliar to the target market. Why not just spend the money on an equivalent gaming rig, and then you have the ability to actually work on it too? A computer built to a specific function is the reason I don't buy consoles to the begin with. Also in regards to the trackball debate. I use a trackball exclusively, except at work. I wish MS hadn't discontinued the trackball that I have loved since the day I got it, with the big thumb controlled ball on the side. It fit my hand great, had fantastic responsiveness, and lasted me 10 years before it finally wore out. MY logitech wireless, while of a similar form factor, is just too small for my hand, but I still prefer it to a mouse, as does my oldest son. Heck he still use the MS Trackball we stitched back together despite its issue because he prefers it to the mouse.
  17. Some small updates: And the back cover:
  18. Titanfall looks interesting and I may get it for the PC, but we will see
  19. Very nice TWDC
  20. Thanks guys for the tips. TWDC if you want to that would be great, PM me for my e-mail. I need to figure out where it picked up those jaggies, hmmm. I can always go back to the visio source file and figure it out there. Sketchley that was actually me 8th attempt at the galaxy, and I could never get a bar spiral to work, they always looked jacked up. Anyway I may just use the APoD background, they are free to use IIRC. What else does the image need? Should I darken the background? Are there any troublespots you see? I can take another stab at the character coloring but I'm not sure how much good it will do. Is there anything else I can do to really make it look/feel right?
  21. A quick mockup with two changes. I used a logo based on TWDC's thanks. I also replaced my galaxy with one of the milky way off apod. I wanted to use one I created myself, but oh well.
  22. That is seriously cool, I don't think I have sever seen anyone paint a model that way before, the way it plays with the real shadows causes a real sense of, wha....
