In regards to the discarding of the EU, it really is the best way that Disney/LF could go with pursuing future movies. The EU canon has gotten way too convoluted, especially post NJO, where I stopped reading. Timothy Zahn put up a very good post on facebook about the issue as well. In reality what will probably happen is much like what Star Trek did when it started the films and later series, they will pick and choose from the EU novels to decide what is canon. The writers of said books will then be given the option, maybe, to retcon/rewrite their material to fit into the revised canon. Let's just hope these movies are good and JJ doesn't piss all over them like he did with Star Trek.

Edge of Tomorrow, on DVD/Blu-ray Oct. 7, 2014

They could have used an original design, ie not the manga design, but did they just have use crappy man amps with guns on articulated arms like that? That just looks stupid, almost worse than Verhovens StarShip Troopers, there I said it.- 180 replies

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening

OMG MegaForce was one of my favorite movies as a kid in the 80s. It was so horribly cheesy and filled with cool, over the top, garrish as hell vehicles. I even made up my bike to look like the flying bike, complete with wings and missile launchers. Now I cringe whenever I see it, lol.- 854 replies

The computer and electronics super geek thread
Knight26 replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well I have figured out what replacement I am going to get. A Sager NP8278. It is equipped and cooled in a similar way to the lower end G750 and is about $100 cheaper. I have a limited budget. I am happy with the choice, should be under $1200 out the door since Xotic doesn't charge tax or shipping. BUt since I live in Cali, I will have to wait a little longer for shipping, no biggie. At least I won't have to give this craphole state any money for it. -
very cool, need more pictures though. Does it actually transform or is it now just in battroid mode?

It looks like my old ASUS G60 has finally bit the dust. I went on an overnight trip where it came on in bag and I think that might have overheated it. I can't get it to load up windows, but it will come up in safe mode, nothing I do seems to help. So I think I might have finally cooked the already overtaxed video card, ugh... The hard drive at least appears intact, and I have not yet had a chance to open it up yet and look inside. I even tried the AVG rescue CD, which has worked in the past, but that did nothing for it this time. Anyway I am looking to replace it and am thinking the Asus G750, but I have a price limit so am looking at the lower cost option for it, likely last years model. I really like the hardware and cooling options on it. I have had too many laptops overheat on me so I am all over the G seris dual fan and exhaust design. -
So is this the conclusion or what?

Well that confirms something our LT said at work the other day. They are using real locations for these movies, and they are already starting on Planes 3, which will be set at Edwards.

Well, the emphasis of that statement might have been "cruel." Godzilla, as stated, is a force of nature, unless you count those crappy 70/80s ones where he gives hugs. Forces of nature don't care about right or wrong, they just are. There is no cruelty.

Edge of Tomorrow, on DVD/Blu-ray Oct. 7, 2014
Knight26 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As much as I bag on the "mecha" designs for this movie I want it to be good. I want it to do well. But I want everyone who comes out of the theatre to say: "Damn that was awesome, but how come they didn't have any blasted armor on those suits?" Then I want Hollywierd to freaking listen to those comments the next time they do a movie in this genre.- 180 replies

I call BS on that EI. Even if it is supossed to be placed in modern times they can still armor up the man amps. Even if it's just sheets of kevlar. Also the Ironman example proves that audiences can accept a person in suit not being a robot.- 180 replies

Edge of Tomorrow, on DVD/Blu-ray Oct. 7, 2014
Knight26 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
THing is, most of the mech-suits/mecha we've seen come out of hollywood are Man-Amps, not some form of power armor. Iron Man is likely the only real power armor hollywood has put out on the big screen. Japan on the other hand, with most of its screen material being animated, has been able to create large varieties of power armor that it make individualistic enough to ID the characters. In hollywood, the stars want that face time, and the producers want that face time so make demands to use man-amps instead. Ironman did a good job of finding ways to show the actors face without cutting away from the action too much, and that is what other sci-fi movies need to emulate in some way,- 180 replies

Deus Ex movie - I never asked for this...
Knight26 replied to Ghost Train's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not a bad fan film, but it shows that a good Deus Ex movie could be made. Not sure if I would prefer a Human Revolution or original Deus Ex storyline though. -

So beyond the stupid hollywood reason of showing the idiot actors' faces why are they in man amps instead of full up power armor?- 180 replies

What???? The 1984 David Lynch dune was a freaking travesty. I will admit that the syfy mini-series had its faults, mostly due to budget, but I feel it was far closer to the source material. The Ornithopter actually had flapping wings and wasn't just a freaking flying wedge. The still suits actually looked like soemthing that could be worn in the desert and weren't black leather. It had distinct styles for all the different houses, and actually tried to show Paul age with how they dressed and did the actor's makeup. It actually treated the Wierding Way as a fighting style instead of a sound based weapon, seriously WTF was that? Oh and lets not forget, it Paul doesn't make it rain at the end. Yes it did have Irulan do things that other characters did in the book, but that was in an effort to make her more than just window dressing and I think was done well. Overall I will watch the mini over the David Lynch POS any day of the week.
