Marvel Studios Fantastic Four: First Steps
Mog replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just got back from the film. Surprisingly better than I expected. Like that they played on how flawed Reed is, having all that guilt, being too logical and scientific at times, and always thinking about worst case scenarios. Characters are kinda consistent with how you'd expect them to be, without being overly annoying. There's ribbing here and there, but there's still love underlying their interactions. Galactus and the Surfer were solid. Though, I do wish I had subtitles a few times, as I couldn't make out what Galactus was saying here and there. Old age and too used to subtitles at home. And as a dad,- 130 replies

Marvel Studios Fantastic Four: First Steps

I think Leo was the only one you listed that had any complaints, but those were usually silenced once people saw that he was picking some better and more challenging roles for a while. As far as race/ gender swaps, I’m usually ok if the actor can pull it off and the movie turns out to be great. That unfortunately doesn’t always happen. It also sometimes gets a little cringe when it gets overdone like what happens with most red heads, but if the actor or actress can truly deliver then it gets forgiven.- 130 replies

That's interesting considering that both Menasor, which I have, and Superion, which I don't, both utilize the somewhat controversial frame system, the purpose whereof is to impart greater stability over combining the limb bots directly a la Combiner Wars. I have CW Menasor and Bruticus, and there's no argument that they suffered stability issues, whereas my copy of Legacy Menasor is far more solid and stable. So, the frame system is proven; however, by all accounts, thus far, Legacy Devastator, which combines by attaching the limb bots directly is also quite solid, rendering the necessity of the frame in doubt. Personally, I wish they'd rely less on it, if not determining a way to discard it altogether in preference of direct limb bot attachments, which is true to the OG toys. To the point then, I find it most interesting that, having handled the framed combiners and the new Devy, you feel that Devy is the more solid of the bunch. I'm curious if the rest of the fandom will share your assessment, and whether that assessment, if largely in agreement, will influence how Takara/Hasbro design any future combiners beyond those that are likely already designed for 2026.- 17444 replies

That's very interesting because Sentinel products previously were very clearly not licensed by HG. I presumed the Japan only nature of this release indicated the continuing of that trend. Maybe we're about to see more reissues now with HG branding.

Meh...isn't that the goal of actors?...to become the next big box-office draw for Hollywood studios? Don't recall this kind of complaint about white actors like Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Depp, Clooney, Pitt, Dicaprio, and several others throughout the years who were also "everywhere"....things are different now, we have the internet which allows losers to have their opinions amplified...like I said, it doesn't help that he is now a leading actor in 2 of the biggest IP's...Star Wars and Marvel....the 2 biggest franchises that also happen to be infested by the worst of fan behavior.....so for some, it just doesn't sit well and not being able to fit him into the "DEI" narrative being pushed by morons these days is leading them into pushing the "actor fatigue" BS that has never been a complaint for other "white" Hollywood leading actors....people just need to chill-out....let the entertainment value of the movie be the only thing that matters....- 130 replies

Marvel Studios Fantastic Four: First Steps
mikeszekely replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
His acting is fine, it's just that in the last few years he went from, "hey, who's this, he's pretty good?" to being everywhere. I feel like Marvel casted him because only because he's the flavor of the month, never mind the fact that he sports a mustache that looks more Tony Stark than Reed Richards, or that the age gap between him and Vanessa Kirby is pretty noticeable and slightly distracting. Nothing personal, he's just not my ideal casting choice for the role (though better than Miles Teller).- 130 replies

That would explain the horrible unde side. Being that small there is no way the engineering could be that complex. Plus is on the line of a toy and not a super expensive collectible

I thought it was already determined that the Toyrise Legioss was 1/60 according to this tweet. https://x.com/sakichooboys/status/1922596757168374217 So it'll be a little smaller than the Sentinel. We've seen pics of it on a stand that looks equivalent to a Tamashii stage mech stand, so it's going to be a relatively smaller figure.

Granted, 900 years is a very long time indeed (for Humans) and things can change a lot in such a substantial period. That doesn't mean that what they did made sense, though. One of the many reasons fans hated it was that it didn't make sense in context or out. 😆 Trying to launch a new story off a springboard made of pure idiocy and character shilling is probably not the best idea. Literally everything about the Burn is stupid. That's why, when the idea was originally pitched back in 2006 as the premise for a stand-alone animated series called Star Trek: Final Frontier it got no farther than a handful of rough story treatments and some concept art before CBS said "No thank you". Kurtzman et. al. actually managed to make the bad idea behind Final Frontier worse.

I thought it was Military Operation Soldier Protection Emergency Aviation Dive "Armor" not "Auto"....did it change at some point? Or just a goof? and if curious for the version with the missiles it says 'exclusive' on the front of the box (auction pic) The back says Robotech?? This must be international boxing once size fits all. The old Legioss didn't say Robotech.

Goes to show how well that show stuck (stunk) with me... And see, my idea was already better than anything STD() came up with! But the truth remains that 900 years is a loooong time. Even half of that. Nothing stays the same, so an isolationist Earth coming about after the catastrophe of the Burn is not an impossibility. And I think it would have been better if the Burn had been an attack, but then there are so many things about the Burn that are just silly anyway.

I'm absolutely fine with the design and overall look of the Alpha. There's a lot of people probing about the "scale" of the figure. Lots of hopeful fans are wanting a cheaper 1/48 alternative from Sentinel. But for some reason they don't seem to understand that Takara does their own thing and not follow the "scale" method. I'm guessing this thing will probably be close to Commander or maybe even Leader class.
