The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next
mikeszekely replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'd buy a WST Megatron, if they weren't going for $50+. Oh, and I should maybe clarify something I said about Nexus Prime earlier, for those unfamiliar. Nexus Prime, according to the Covenant of Primus, is the guy with the Enigma of Combination for his artifact, and is described as "the first combiner." Which doesn't exactly make sense to me, since there were only Thirteen Transformers at the time and none of them combined with Nexus... I guess it's like each part of Nexus is also Nexus? I dunno. I've said before that while the Covenant solidified and canonized a lot of the lore of the Thirteen, the idea of the Thirteen had been kicking around for awhile and Fun Publications ran with it during their time with the Official Transformers Collector's Club. For the first few years that Fub Pub ran it, if you joined the OTCC by a certain date you got a free figure that was a repainted Energon conbiner figure... first Skyfall (the A-10-ish plane from Superion Maximus), then Landquake (the tank from Bruticus Maximus), then Breakaway (the other jet limb from Superion Maximus), then Topspin (the helicopter from Bruticus Maximus), and finally Heatwave (the torso bot from Bruticus Maximus). The accompanying story explained that these guys, though they didn't know it, were created when Alpha Trion, Vector Prime, and Solus Prime split apart Nexus Prime to hide the fragments of Prima's Star Saber from the Fallen. So the reason why a bunch of people at the other board are mad is that we're getting Nexus as a Voyager-class dude who turns into a jet and looks vaguely like the Covenant depiction instead of a whole entire combiner... as if we haven't known for like a year that Nexus was going to be a Voyager, or as if Hasbro would have realistically dedicated more than a Leader budget in the first place. Well, courtesy of Mark Maher's Instagram, we do know that Nexus is, in fact, capable of turning into a torso that works with at least Superion's frame...- 18035 replies

Yeah, I agree, the GAT-2 should have been included. with the purple Melkian Scopedog As in the TV series we most frequently see it armed with either the GAT-22 or Pentatrooper and caruying the Parachute Sack.

Thanks, guys! Thom, you've gotta watch Record of Lodoss War. The original OVA by Madhouse is legendary, with incredible vocal opening and ending themes. I normally don't care about anime vocal music, unless it's Macross, Lodoss, and BGC. The OVA was done before the novels were completely written, so its ending is considerably different from how it was meant to be. Later there was a Lodoss TV series that mostly glossed over the events of the first story arch, then it covered the Leylia redemption arc. The second half revolves around Neece's capture, who is the daughter of Leylia and the wizard Slayn from the first story arch, now a teenager. The sorcerer Wagnard captures Neece to sacrifice in an attempt to resurrect the Goddess of Destruction, Kardis. In the OVA version, Wagnard captures Deedlit to sacrifice to Kardis and Parn must rescue her. Unfortunately, there is no clear-cut way to just sit down and take in the entirety of Lodoss and have it make sense. The OVA is all about Parn's hero's journey. But only the TV show features the "next generation" characters. Chas, I'm pretty happy with how Deedlit's hair turned out. I've only temporarily attached her head because her cape needs to go on first, and then her head/hair. I also need to attach her side locks that go on in front of her ears. I'm also working on a 3D-printed Rei figure. I first airbrushed her skintone, then masked it off and airbrushed her hair Mr. Color 34, sky blue. I managed to find the official Rei hair color by Gaia Notes. It's too light, I think, so I just sprayed it from a top-down direction to provide a gradation.

I suppose you can call it a vacuum. It’s meant to suck up and dispose of poison gas. He is the hostile environment specialist. He clears the area of any toxic stuff. Fantastic design.- 1191 replies

Bandai glues together the parts you need to disassemble, but doesn't apply glue to the loose-fitting parts that you don't want falling off...

It was a tv miniseries that aired I believe around 9 pm to hopefully make sure kids went to sleep, but every kid I knew watched it and talked about it the next day at school. It was on ABC television networks, so pretty much every kid was watching it and getting nightmares and childhood trauma. good times. And nobody has trusted a clown since I guess that hatred for clowns started with Garfield, but that quickly turned to fear after that miniseries -

Yeah, I remember having Airtight as a kid. Was his main accessory a vacuum? It’s been a while. I can’t remember if it was to take samples or just sniff at things to identify them

Hot damn! It's like you took the Arcadia PF version and stuck it in a micronization chamber.

The backpack can be removed easily enough from the main body, but actually opening the backpack to replace the tailfins is another story. The backpack is glued together pretty good, so it's not going to be easy to open it without breaking or damaging it.

Bandai would never cut corners on plastic quality. *looks at all the yellowed Bandai valks next to the older but still white Yamato valks*

I find it rather unpalatable that they didn't include the requisite minifig with this. The chintzy old 80s robot build just doesn't equate. I'm curious if the head can accommodate a minifig should one buy the set and want to put one in there. Anyway, by now, with many AFOLs, many of them Classic Space fans, working as designers at LEGO, the knowledge that LEGO Space fans generally look forward to any opportunity to collect retro Space figs in their original or new colors is a given. This is a bit of a middle finger in my humble opinion. I'm glad they did the set, but that particular omission leaves a sour taste.

Had a thought about what we learned in this latest episode that might constitute a plot hole. ... they were using surface-based matter-antimatter reactors as power plants. Starfleet's Academy-class ships like the USS Athena are partly used as surface installations and given what we see in "Vox in Excelso" they're capable of saucer separation and both the saucer and secondary hull have their own separate warp drives. The saucer and secondary hull both land to form the surface complex used for an academy campus, meaning there's two warp cores in close proximity on the surface anytime one of these ships is landed. Are the Academy-class new? Or did potentially hundreds of these ships explode on the surfaces of Federation planets during the Burn when the dilithium moderating their warp cores failed? Yeah, no matter how much I muse on it I can't seem to come up with a sane/cogent reason why the USS Athena's bridge would need to be as big as, or bigger than, DS9's Operations Center.

Noted for the recommendations. I also watched the IT (1990) made for television movie on HBO Max for the first time, I think I missed out on it when my mom stopped paying for cable around that time... I recall friends saying how scary it was and its interesting to see the big TV actors of the day but it hasn't aged well at all. Very cheesy, lol. But I think that could be said of most television movies back then too. -
I heard the same thing. I'm wondering if they actually upgraded the plastic quality.

Love the skin tone on that Nadia and the colour variation on Deedlit's hair Greg! Got the oil weathering passes done on the Battroid, ( it's very light and doesn't show up to well in this photo. I'll have try some close ups when it's all done) Just a hint of chipping and the clear parts left to do. Also did an oil wash on the figure. Might do a bit more on him- not sure.

The only complaint I ever heard from the first release was how translucent the wings were, somebody mentioned it could be because bandai used a lower quality plastic than usual. I have the first release and a Shin 0A and don't really see any difference design wise

So is there a comparison shot of this new Roy 0S vs. the original one? Does it look like any other changes were made or is it the same?
