I'm happy for anyone that's into these He-Man crossovers, but He-Man looks like he's wearing a kid's Optimus costume he got at Walmart.- 17690 replies

The MW Automotive Thread 5.0 GT

Yeah, I'm an SUV guy so I was looking at a Suburban. I got noped, had to be a van. Then I was leaning towards the Sienna, got noped, had to be an Odyssey. Plot twist: Wife sold Hondas for years and was absolutely dead set on the Odyssey - I had no chance to begin with. Happy wife, happy life. You can take that to the bank. -
I'm not talking of a skeleton in the physical sense, since no, these toys don't have those, and they don't share many physically molded or machined parts, because the individual connections and shapes are different. I'm talking about the idea that if you took an x-ray of the figure, and drew a connecting stick figure diagram of all of the major transformation and mobility joints inside the valk, you would have very similar results for both. The "skin" of the valk is where all of the unique features would lie, and that's where all of the parts you're talking about would attach. This is really rough, but for a better diagram, I'd need to draw all of the essential connecting joints of one of the actual figures, because animation is funky, but imagine this skeleton connecting all of the major transforming components. You draw connecting lines between linked parts to come up with something that just shows the relations between them, and where they connect. Maybe a better way to explain it is actually comparing it to how skeletons work for game character animations. You have an invisible skeleton that exists to link the essential moving parts of a character, and that skeleton may not change, while the actual characters can be wildly different. Long video here, but it shows a pretty clear example of what I'm talking about. The YF-19 and VF-19 are similar enough to share that same basic connecting skeleton stick figure. They're basically the same aircraft with different exterior panels. You can't really do that with the VF-17 and VF-171, since the proportions and transformation are so different. Some of that comes down to the exterior body panels and details of the 17 just being much bulkier, but it also means the locations of the key transformation joints have to be adjusted significantly to accommodate those bigger components. Bandai also added extra joints and steps to the transformation compared with the Yamato VF-17, so the skeleton of that transformation stick figure is a lot more complicated. Anyhow, sorry to drag the thread off on this weird tangent, but it's actually kind of fascinating to see the differences between the 17 and 171 when you dig into the structural relationships, and how the two toys were approached so differently.

Though we don't own one we rented minivans during family vacations and they are great family movers, young and old! If we had to get a mini van I think it would be a KIA Carnival since it looks more like a SUV than minivan. That would compliment your EV6 GT too, lol. - Today

Oh, these are gorgeous! The M3 designs are incredible and it's really cool to see (fanbooks?) for it. Great find.
-
By recycling the parts/molds of the 171 to use with this VF-17 release, that makes it way more cost-effective vs a team to design & engineer a completely new mold like a properly proportioned VF-17 or a VF-11B/C. Frankly, I would be way more excited to see a DX VF-2SS+SAP or an HMR VF-2JA, but that's just me.

Damn, this thing has got some chicken legs! Easy pass for me, I still have a Yamato 17D in storage somewhere, that thing is gorgeous, and proportioned way better IMO.

So it was pretty deeply buried in this thread, but I found it. Unfortunately I managed to schnooker myself into thinking the image I had saved of the tails being correct was something that actually happened.. no, I actually photoshopped that myself as a "what if" to see how much of a difference it made.
-
Ehh, probably a pass for me unless it hits the bargain bin. I'm surprised and disappointed we're getting this instead of a VF-11 first. I'd love a new vf-11 in chogokin or HMR.

Never knew there was a "City Hunter" game. Looks a little like "Rolling Thunder 2", one of my favourite games on the Mega Drive (Genesis to probably most of you).

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu - May 22, 2026
Big s replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I didn’t bother with the new Superman in the theater, but we were pretty let down by the Snyder one and after finally seeing the new one, I don’t think it would have been money well spent either. Totally loved Event Horizon in the theater, even though it doesn’t hold up quite as well these days and Tank Girl was fun for the time, but really cheaped on the ending but was kinda another that totally doesn’t hold up.- 102 replies

I think Kawamori has very limited ability to do anything and his involvement is largely collecting a fee to say he is involved.

Aside from the things that are "anime magic", yes I completely agree with how Bandai is probably throwing in their own take ("knowing better") and it's sucks that they're doing that. In the end I'm sure it (the DXC YF-21) like many other Macross stuff has go through the final approval of Kawamori (and maybe his team: Tenjin, etc.) for final say, right? It's not like Kawamori comes into Bandai's office only to look at it during the prototypes for a once over and gives a yes/no and that's it. It would be believable Bandai gives Kawamori his own milestone prototype version(s) to take back to his home/office to further study/play with (to do his own homework on) and is in full communication directly with Bandai's team before it goes to the production line. Do we even know if (maybe) it's Kawamori making/suggesting these ("better known") changes to Bandai's team for the macross line? And that's not to say (maybe) Kawamori is aware but just overlooks and passes off these changes? 🤷♂️🙄 If so, then that would be sad... I'm interested in looking at the early grey prototype that you're referencing. Do you have a link or picture? As I've said in the previous post I couldn't find it, but recall seeing something of the DXC YF-21 tease year(s) prior to Bandai's TN2019 reveal. Yes the markings on the DXC YF-21 are better than the 19's markings by far. Yea Bandai really f'd up the tampo on the Macross logo for the DXC YF-21's wing and with previous tampo issues (DXC VF-1's 001/100). The Macross logo was correct on the YF-21's prototype displayed at TN2019. We already know Bandai won't own up to it just like the YF-21's antenna issue (how they stated damage was due to the shipping/handling process).

I've ordered that twice through sellers who never shipped. Might have to finally order it from one of the more expensive ones.

This is quite a surprise. I'm glad Bandai is rolling forward with more M7. But this version, once again, makes me miss Yamato. Easy pass.
