Your Most Recent General Toy Purchase - 2024 Edition

TY! I’ve never heard of Popcultcha. I need to check them out. Mandarake and I are old pals, but I’ve not used them since the tariffs kicked in. I’m still on the fence with the MPG line. They look great and the cost is not too terrible, but I’m not sure I’m ready to start collecting yet another “masterpiece” line.- 1058 replies

Barbatos Boomerang Mace equipment pack. My guess would be a release sometime in Q4 '26. https://hobby.dengeki.com/news/2920146/ Edit: Forget the silhouette, here is what it will look like. https://www.taghobby.com/archives/899848

This. I was still a grad student when the first Bayformers (my first time using that term) movie was released. My labmates knew I was stupid-obsessed with TFs, and since we all enjoyed playing hooky now and then, we caught the first matinee showing available. I still remember apologizing to them for making them suffer through that experience.- 18171 replies

But that might chafe down there or pinch in the bad way, but I guess whatever you’re into. Lando seemed to have similar taste and really liked the wider hips.

Medicom/Hot Toys and all 1/6 scale figures
shazam replied to EXO's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hot Toys you have done it again! More of the same product with tweaks and extra costings. You can get a Hot Toys 1/6 scale Thor figure with "nicer" hair for a premium price. If you did not pick up the Hot Toys 1/6 scale Iron Man Mark 43 the first time, then the 2.0 would be a great addition to have. Better shoulders, head sculpt and lighting throughout the figures body. I can still see some gaps in the shoulder area, so I am not sure how much of a reduction there is. I'm surprised that the Jack Sparrow figure shown is not listed as being an Artisan Edition. The only person that would buy a figure like this would be Justin from Justin's Collection. He can then tell everyone how much better this figure is than previous figures and you should go out and buy it. -

@electric indigo Very cool. Excited to see this. @Chas Looking good. Well I’m adding another build to the bench. It’s getting a little hectic but organized. The KOG 7777 is about to get gloss black tomorrow in preparation for some GOLD. The FSS Phantom GK is all pinned and ready for sanding and surface prep before priming. I have a little step through van I just test fit, a Wave LED mirage about to be test fit, and now I’m test fitting a Plamax Bellvine figure. About to be a painting traffic jam soon. All fun stuff and plenty to keep track of. edit. I forgot I test fit the Tiger Moth pirate blimp awhile back and that just needs surface prep sanding etc and then it can get primed.

Your Most Recent General Toy Purchase - 2024 Edition

The first two units ($319.99 AU each) were pre-ordered through Popcultcha. I emailed Popcultcha two weeks ago as the purchase link for these items was no longer available. Since then the item is listed "Out of stock". Through emailing Popcultcha, they let me know that Hasbro had indicated that they would give an update in the near future on when the next shipment of figures would be arriving. I also used PayPal where I could pay these units off over 4 payments. https://www.popcultcha.com.au/transformers-optimus-prime-style-generation-mpg-17-takara-tomy-9-5-action-figure.html The other two units were purchased through Mandarake. I could only order one unit at a time. I could get them for 15,000 yen ($154 AU) each and paid around 5,500 yen ($56 AU) for EMS postage. You can use Transformers Masterpiece for your search or ( Masterpiece G ) attached. I have noticed that the price on these units will drop down from time to time while checking back with the link. It's cheaper for myself to buy these units from Mandarake and it takes only a few days to be posted to my address. Takara Tomy Masterpiece G Optimus Prime Style Gen. MPG17- 1058 replies

Please stop trying to make humanoid robots look like humans. I mean, what's the point? I'd rather interact with a cool looking droid than a not-quite-there plastic zombie doll. -
Very cool. I love the muted colors.

Like others here, my only concern is whether or not they're making Macross toys. With Arcadia silent these days, it'd be nice to have another company competing with Bandai in the Macross market.

The speed at which this disease overtakes its victims is frightening. It makes Dr. Hawking's comparatively long life with the disease all that more curious and amazing. I wasn't aware of Eric's work, as I only watched a handful of eps of Grey's Anatomy when it first premiered. I had to Google him as his name wasn't familiar to me. Nevertheless, at 54, this strikes close to home for me as well. Dane's commitment to his craft in the face of his suffering and deterioration are commendable. He's lost to us, his family, friends, and fans, far too soon. RIP

Indeed he did. I'm quite frank about my vehement dislike of the Bay films; I think they're utterly irredeemable as entertainment, let alone Transformers media. However, there are those who like them, quite a few I've gathered, which led to their making bundles of money for Hasbro, who in turn, funneled some of that cash back into toys. The overcomplex, illogical, mechanically unfeasible, and shardy look of the Bay-bots forced Takara to push the boundaries of their engineering skills resulting in some of the most complex toys we've ever seen from the company. Moreover, those funds helped pay for excellent shows like Prime and Animated, each of which explored unorthodox aesthetics which informed the toys, which also benefitted from Takara's stretching their engineering skills for Bayformers toys. Additionally, as you said, it drew new generations of kids into the Transformers fandom and the results are manifest in the still thriving franchise we have today. For that, Mr. Bay deserves thanks. I just hope Hasbro reconsiders letting him direct another film, as I doubt it'll end as well as they're anticipating. I think they should focus on doing quality animation. Quality. It's a terrible shame that Transformers One did so poorly at the box office; I hope it'll redeem itself on streaming. It was a good Transformers film, light years better than all of Bay's movies put together.- 18171 replies

Ah, elucidation most appreciated. I wasn't sure what size/price class these were in, and forgive me, but I likely didn't read your review of the core-class Dinobots, as I've no interest in core-class. Either way, these aren't for me, but as you say, it's cool of Takara/Hasbro to retool these guys into Monstructor, combining gimmick and all, for those to whom they appeal.- 18171 replies

Dang. This kinda hits close to home as Eric was my age and married one of my 90s crushes. I recall when Eric announced his diagnoses with ALS but didn't think it would kill him this quickly. To me, ALS is scarier than cancer. RIP. Eric Dane Dead at 53 After ALS Battle https://www.tmz.com/2026/02/19/eric-dane-dead/

To be fair, Monstructor is a retool of Dinoking, who himself was a repaint of the Core-class Dinobots. If you'll recall from my reviews the were never the best, as Core-class toys were pretty limited by their budget when they only had to do a robot and alt mode, but the Dinobots (and Dinoking) were further hampered by having to do the combining gimmick. Frankly I'm impressed that that Hasbro even bothered to do any remolding to make their alt modes look a bit more like G1 toys (sans Pretender shells).- 18171 replies
