There was no reason for it to not be in atmosphere in Super packs. I just wouldn't fire those extra engines as it might be too much, especially with a 2000 ft limit in Island 1 (I haven't seen ep.21 yet so I don't know much). That VF-171 looks awesome. I've seen this tossed around a bit, and i believe it was theorized that the booster was for long range folds and/or to overcome fold faults. I don't know if that has changed. VF-27 use the fold booster when it went to Galia IV, and probably Brera left it on orbit when he came to the surface. He use it again to fold to Frontier afterward. In epi.7, I speculate that Brera VF-27 and other were launched from Dulfim in stealth mode and later piggyback on Dulfim fold jump. d3v Posted August 30, 2008 Share Posted August 30, 2008 Well, technically, we've already seen Ozma bring in a full armored pack VF-25S in episode 2 in Gerwalk mode. However, that fact that both Alto and Gilliam dump their packs when entering an atmosphere in fighter mode seem to indicate that, at least for that mode, there is a big enough operational penalty that it's better to leave the packs in space. It could be the one on the RIGHT side of the VF-171 is a shoulder mounted version of the VF-27's weapon. The one on the LEFT side of the VF-171 could be the DE weaponry, most likely missle launcher for the miniture version of a DE. The wings look like they have a pretty standard load out. As to those other packs mounted on the back on the 171 it kinda reminds me of what guys were doing in WWII, you know all the field mods on planes and tanks. That gun is all they have left to punch through Vajra armor anyways. This will probably be the last time we'll see it in use since they'll probably adapt to it. It's a new class of ship isn't it? Along with the Dulfim and the Kaitos that makes three escort class ships we've seen on Frontier. The compendium named it Stealth Cruisers and there was a debate few months ago whether its actually a remodeled Algenicus class.
