Always love me a good "whodunit" murder mystery movie, looking forward to this latest Knives Out one.

Also it's time for another Hercule Poirot movie.

Hope so! I've been liking the Brannaugh movies.

We watched WARFARE last night on HBO, a good solid movie. It has that combo of you've been thrown straight into combat like BLACK HAWK DOWN, the nighttime is very Zero Dark Thirty and the visual impact of Saving Private Ryan. It's an hour & a half film that gets right to the point and no need to drag it out.

The sound of the rifles, shell casings and that cracking sound must have been deafening in the movie theater.

I was a bit worried since it had that A24 tag and my lady seems to hate every time I suggest one of their movies ever since The Green Knight

It was indeed deafening in the theater. I may have posted about it the night I saw it. Well worth the price of entry.

Talked my lady into watching Warfare since everyone seems to be bringing it up lately since it dropped on Max or HBO Max or whatever it’s called now. I personally liked it, but not quite as much as others and my lady although liking war movies didn’t really like it at all. I think the issue is that while the action is done really well, it’s bit light on story. Or maybe that it isn’t so much a story, but an experience. It probably could’ve helped to have a bit of exposition about what was going on and maybe could have been a bit easier to get a feel for things if they showed some of the film from the other groups involved.

Spoiler

She was a bit confused on the who’s who of characters that mostly either just shot or screamed or kicked injured soldiers seemingly on purpose or by accident.

i also kinda get the feeling that people thirty or so years down the line might not even really understand what’s going on and might just think the U.S. troops are the bad guys since they just randomly take two families hostage and end up trashing their home. Even the first rescue attempt is total chaos and it kinda appears that the rescue vehicle just ditches wounded soldiers.
The next batch of troops kinda just come in like a bunch of A holes instead of backup. I think it takes a little bit of modern historical knowledge to kinda piece together what’s going on or even where they are.

Overall, I personally liked it, but I feel like it will be more enjoyed from guys that dig action or military folk than the average person.

So it was recently revealed that Netflix show writers are advised to write dialogue that essentially narrates the movie in order for audiences who have it on in the background can know what's going on.

I don't know why I felt the need to mention that just now. It's a real mystery. Anyway I'm super depressed for some reason, how about you?

So the new Anaconda is a horror-comedy reboot of the J-Lo Ice Cube film? Okay I guess, not sure who asked for this, but there it is.

More like the new nightmare version but more comedy

So my lady wanted to watch Ice Road Vengeance on Netflix. I said ok reluctantly, but mostly due to me picking the last couple movies. It’s pretty much garbage, but with a bit of Liam Neeson charm. It’s pretty bad when the movie has ice road in the title, but there are barely patches of snow on the ground in a couple spots.

The highlight of the movie is that Liam Neeson can somehow get a bus’s Front axle removed, climb down a hill with a a wench they somehow set up using the wheel of the bus and remove the parts off another turned over bus at the bottom of a cliff and with very little help and get the new one set up in less time than an oil change all while bleeding from a gunshot wound to the side of his belly. All mechanics should be shown this scene and shamed if they take more than an hour to work on your car.

Seriously, this movie is trash, but if you owe a favor then maybe it’s worth a watch. Or maybe if there an eventual Rifftrax version it might be more fun.

Watched the movie THE SUBSTANCE on HBO tonight. Take a dash of the Overlook hotel from The Shining, Smeagol & Gollum, Carrie and possibly Requiem for a dream (ending sequence).

Demi Moore wants to relive her youth, and it comes at one hell of a cost.

I think you forgot "The Fly" in that list.  (I saw it in the theater!)

I knew I forgot something.

I just noticed you put The Shinning instead of The Shining, but that may actually be even better+more accurate.  :D

I've never read the Stephen King novel, does this RUNNING MAN trailer appear more accurate to the book? In the original film everything appears to be solved in a few hours, not being on the run for 30 days.

I’ve heard it is closer to the book . I’ve never read it either though

I'm REALLY curious if they actually stick to the books ending though.

Spoiler

I feel like the hero finding out that his wife and kid were murdered days ago and then pulling a 9/11 because he has nothing left to live for but revenge doesn't really fit with the vibe they're presenting, but they did show a shootout on a plane in the trailer so.... 🤷‍♂️
