I support a Ranka victory.

I'm just saying, it's probably not going to be Sheryl.

This whole Macross has been about giving homages to what has gone before, and then turning it on its head.

Ranka is behind heading into the home stretch, that means one thing. ^_^

Victory.

Isn't she "behind" in the same way Minmei was around this point, when it was becoming clear that there was more going on with Hikaru and Misa?

I too have major issues with the H264 codec - even on my relatively new ATI 2400HD video card I consistently lose audio sync due to video framerate slowdowns... a side effect of the H264 process demanding 100% of my CPU time - MKVs work just fine otherwise for me, and they have been my preferred wrapper for video media for quite some time.

on to another observation I gleaned from this ep... it seems that both Ranka and Brera were able to communicate directly with the Vajra at some point before the destruction of the 117th fleet (I am assuming that the disaster happened at Gallia IV or closeby), but that Brera seems to have completely lost the ability due to his cyberization. if so, there may be another reason for the destruction of that fleet other than Grace's machinations, and that reason may in fact be the vajra looking to make the kids happy by fulfilling a wish made in anger. they wouldnt have any idea for example that if ranka in a tantrum made a wish that everybody who kept her mama away was dead, that that wish shouldnt be taken seriously... they would only know that a child that they considered one of their own was hurting, and that *the fleet* had caused it somehow - ergo vajra wipe out fleet trying to make her feel better.

I hate to say it, but this scenario has a number of real world parallels... whole populations of towns have been wiped out because of a perceived crime against an individual.

Yup. Ripping the super dimension one bullet round at a time.

I think the reason Galaxy is all quiet is that it has already been taken over by Grace's faction.

It is my belief that the fleets are sovereign nations in a way.

Leon pulling a William Garland on Frontier won't land him control of the entire NUN federation.

Besides he's just another pawn. Grace didn't tell him that there are Vajra larva (Ai-kun etc) running around Frontier.

guys...if you have problems with MKV files lagging your pc its because the mkv files are 1280 x 780 which are HD files and your pc is too old to play them. Its nothing to do with it being an MKV file. The same result will happen if you played a RAW .avi HD file.

Nope: The 1280 x 720s .avis' all run like fright trains on my P4-3.2, 4GB, nVidia 6800 Ultra . . .

I managed to vastly increase image quality and performance while watching Macross F today.

Basically I installed CoreAVC for better performance and then in Coreavc options I set input to Auto and Output to PC

I kept ffdshow as a post-processor to correct the aspect ratio for the TV-Out

Then I used the 16-235 -> 0-255 shader from MPC to remove the greyish bars around the video and improve contrast even further.

Here are some comparison pics, left=before, right=after:

Unfortunately the effect of the shader isn't passed on to the screenshots, but just imagine the black borders pitchblack instead of dark-greyish.

Had to raise the TV brightness a tad to compensate though, as the brightnessrange bug of the VRM9 renderer doesn't translate to the tv.

Of course this solution is taylored to my monitor and tv, but if you are unsatisfied with the blackness of space you can try it out as well.

A lot of people who are having problems are simply playing files with resolutions and encodings their computers cannot run. It has nothing to do with the specific container format, but how they're often used.

Often times, high-resolution H.264 encodes are packaged into MKV containers which is where all the blame on Matroska comes from. H.264 encoding coupled with high resolution, not the MKV container, is what brings a lot of computers to a crawl.

With the AVI container, the simple fact is that it doesn't really support H.264 which is a benefit right off the bat for slower computers (i.e. those who know encoding will never put H.264 in an *.avi). The encodings placed in AVIs are usually XviD, DivX, or WMV, which are less resource intensive. Additionally, smaller resolutions are usually packaged into AVI files, though high enough resolutions will cause problems for older computers, but it's a much a higher threshold to breach (e.g. XviD 1280x720 is fine but H.264 1280x720 is not).

Basically, if you're going to complain, complain about the right thing: H.264 encodings with high resolution. Though, with how MKV is often used, it's understandable how it gets a bad rap (but that's because the container itself is more functional and powerful). And, yes, these things really should go into the Fansub thread. The better place to ask gg if they're willing to release kinder encodes is likely there

The scene will cut away and there will be another big debate as to whether or not "Myung" was raped or just had "her" shirt torn.

The sniper will get distracted by Ranka's actions and get so engrossed in watching that President Glass will make a safe getaway. Ai-kun, looking out for Ranka, sneaks up on the sniper and does the face hugger thing.

Forgot to add how bad Ozma and Cathy act.

I'm ready to put 100$ on that. Anyone interested ?

Ummm, I HAVE Media Player Classic and it's still choppy. Plus the slower the system, the worse it is, no matter what the player or the codec is. :rolleyes: That's my point. :) We don't all have top of the line computes like some of you. :p There's no reason to even use this MKV format when AVI and MP4 works perfectly fine.

I'd say Ozma probably calls up Michael and we get a sniper scouting sniper act for the Glass event. Not as humorous, but slightly more plausible. Then again, everyone did look held up.

And, yeah, at first I didn't catch that Cathy knew they were being watched and questioned, "What was that?" - since it was so out of character.

(Hah, now we've got multitudes of posts about the Fansub thread that I needed to go back and quote. Yay!)

No, nothing from Japan. I think they want to keep it a secret. Macross have never followed the regular numbers of episodes. All we have is people assuming and panicking like they did before episode 13. For (6) weeks popular anime sites said no more then 13 episodes and look were we are now. I have seen anime sites make mistakes often then listing episodes before hand.

Great episode. Ranka wouldn't be worried about Sheryl taking Alto if she knew what Grace, Michael and Klan Klan knew. Alto should take both girls. Klan Klan making sure Michael staying by her side was fun. It looked more like a girl making sure her big brother didn't break his promise then a date to the people passing by so Michael is safe.

Is there another Varja Queen talking to Ranka in the beginning? It looked like Ranka's pet was orded to leave Ranka's bed after that voice asked her if she was lonely.

I think Ranka was dreaming about her mother, and epi.14 show us that the Vajra Queen communicate to Ranka by using Ranshee image, which makes me think that Vajra Queen template is Ranshee. :blink:

Ai-kun left Ranka because I think ai kun will evolve, and need some isolate place to transform himself into a Big-Zam. ^_^

Makes me wonder if Ai-kun became a fully grown Lobster, will Aiku-kun protect Ranka or devour her instead. :lol:

Finally saw Episode 19, and was it just me or was there some death flags for Mikhail in this one?

* The scene were he is talking to Alto about what a coward he is.

* The scene where he was talking to Klan about liking someone.

Also Big Zam-type Vajra at the concert? :blink:

ALSO..MDE Bomb? :ph34r: A miniaturized Dimension Eater.

I'll bet $100 that it wont be used against the Vajra, more likely its gonna be used against MF's escort fleet, which will conveniently be having a "naval review" ala Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. :lol: Thus, leaving the inhabitants of MF vulnerable. :ph34r: In essence all this conspiracy is one giant experiment by Grace & Galaxy Anonymous. :)

I hate MKV.

I use a slower PC at work and it ran sooo slow, last week when GG subbed ep 18, I had to keep rewinding so that the subs would play in time to the audio! After like 10-15s the subs would get out of sync, so I kept having to stop and start OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!

Eff this MKV bs.

I will have a better theory about ep 19 later today.

Of course it is an experiment. I believed everybody agreed about that since episode 15. The question is what is the objective of such experiment?

I wonder what is going to happen when the Vajra finally become resistant to the MDE...

They should start using love instead of weapons to fight the Vajra, hehe... So they de-volve into a bunch of Ai-kuns... ^_^

I don't know how anyone can become imune to reality being eaten up around them. Unless maybe they all grow fold drives and treknobabble their way out.

In case you forgot, they are already internally fold-capable o_O

But I think reality being consumed around them (or consuming a chunk of them) is something you can't grow immune to.

any chance it's still operational, and will play a little role near the end of the series? :p just daydreaming here; the vision of that red-lined VF-1 just brings so many levels of nostalgia to my head. :)

They used it in the comic, so if you really NEED to see it flying, that may be your only outlet...

Personally, the only way I'd like to see it in action is if the gravity on Frontier goes wonky, and everything starts falling sideways (including Sheryl and/or Ranka). Then Alto could use it to ram through a bridge and grab them. ^_^

nah, i was thinking more along the lines of some blue mice showing Alto the secret key that will activate the legendary red-trimmed VF-1.... :rolleyes:
