Well I figured it was hit in the attack, lost it's atmosphere and was exposed to vacuum which would eventually freeze it all. Remember what happened to South Atria Island after the SDF-1's fold? Seems like both Sheryl and Ranka were artificial constructs or atleast bred/born in tube to specifications (think Qwisatz Haderach from Dune), with Sheryl likely being an improved model but didn't have time to "mature/evolve" as the previous Ranka model. Furthermore the speculation about it being an AI uprising a la butlerian jihad or maybe even forced Cyborg evolution might be true. Depending on if their comment that Macross Frontier is targeted as it is one of the rare fleets that have outlawed cyborgs means that they attack it because of them outlawing cyborgs or because they are at a serious disadvantage because of them outlawing cyborgs and therefore an easier target to hack into unnoticed. Sheryl might also have the illness because she has a built-in limited life expectancy. Sort of like the replicants in Blade Runner. Perhaps the Witchcraft pills were used to accelerate the process. Loss of artificial gravity would also likely have caused the water to disperse depending on inertia of the out of control habitat. Neural network of cyborgs? Cylons? Borg? OMGWTFBBQ * What 'bout my star duet = pure epicness. Dancing at each other's back was hot stuff. Ranka's fang made an appearance. Alto was impressed... who knew that could happen? * Grace is a bitch. Once Sheryl finds out, it's on. * Zentradi have it good; their model trains can literally be real human sized trains. * Musicals = win. Well admitingly a good chunk of it was just a clip show recap which is kinda dissapointed (too seeing all the action with a new Sheryl song was pretty cool)... but it's compensated by some neat revelations and WTF moments ? Though we ended with more questions than answers (Proto-Accords ? Heh ? ) The love triangle musical moment with Sheryl and Ranka was awesome So I wonder what's the deal with Sheryl... it seems she must have been created to serve her role as a galactic fairy - but for what purpose ? I'm curious about what Mr Bilrer has to say... hopefully we'll get some answer and they won't skip the encounter. Next Episode : Ranka Attack ! Something like their consciousness being digitized? Grace was once a normal human, we know that because they mentioned that the physical body at the start of ep 15 was created as a copy of her original look. I'd say its not likely that machines will feel attached to a certain look (although still possible i guess ). Seems like any single consciousness can be chosen as the 'controller' of the body? but it looks like they preferred to let Grace take control of her own 'copy'. Each consciousness seems to retain their own (mental) individuality so that they have different personalities/temperaments - for e.g. the guy feels awkward to control the new body (a Grace clone). These people are quite obviously the masterminds from Galaxy fleet, and doesn't this mind-linking/downloading technology mean that they are virtually immortals? until their database gets physically destroyed maybe? or their data corrupted ... if they're already that smart, they'd probably already have tons of network backup to ensure they can be recovered in any disaster (unless there's some limitation somewhere). And also my impression is that they're saying Grace is from Macross Global rather than Galia 4. why did Grace refer to Brera Sterne as the Prince? No matter, they are obviously not truely respectful to him since we know Brera is working under their orders and being blackmailed with his lost memories. Liked that look of YF-24!! a very nice cross between su-27 and f-22... In Macross Plus the Macross Consortium could not make Sharon Apple as a true independent AI. They had to resort to an interface leach off emotions from Myung. Sharon Apple became sentient due to Myung being her personality template and illegal emotion chips installed by the head scientist. Some persons may have seen this as an opprtunity for immortality. Galaxy replicated and improved technologies that would likely viewed as taboo. Oh boy, this episode was fun. I'm not a big fan of clip shows but this one has to be one the best I've seen lately, very plot-intensive as well. The animation itself wasn't bad at all, considering the budget of clip-shows nowadays. A few things that caught my attention tough: - The YF-24 is a much much more beautiful and elegant bird than the low budget looking VF-25, I'm really disappointed with Kawamori choosing the final VF-25 design over the original 24, such a waste...WHYYYYYY Froating Head WHHYY !!!??? - Where's Ranka's vajra pet ? maybe it's sleeping in its cocoon somewhere, waiting to come out as a red lobster and kill everyone. To give is an AWESOME Macross Plus-type OVA/Movie featuring the YF-24, perhaps? As for the Vajra pet, its probably with Nanase. Uhhmmmm.....resting in her PILLOWS. Man, that was fun. a fun and lively episode, and i enjoyed it immensely. you know those episodes were you didn't know you were smiling all throughout? yup, this is one. actually, even when they were showing clips from previous episodes. i was smiling. why? i just realized how awesome the action sequences are. it's been 14 episodes of this quality of mecha action? wow. At first it seemed to start out like a recap episode (and that point i thought to myself, ok standard recap. no way to go around it). but it veered off that path, and went into "reveal" mode. although it raised more questions than answers, the discussion between the multiple personalities of grace gave a better understanding of how grace's AI works. ok, not actually personalities, per se. i think, more like a merged consciousness? whatever it is, their discussions sure felt like Seele and NERV all over again, which sends "conspiracy" signals all over me. i shiver in anticipation. An at this point, we are starting to see at least the two factions in play in this conspiracy. richard bilra and his SMS is now clearly opposite Grace's side, at least. Grace's group has underestimated the power of Bilra's SMS group. And while Grace's group seems to be strengthening its hold on the singers, Bilra's group has made a play at Alto, a fact that did not escape the attention of Grace's group (voice overs during diamond crevasse). which leads us back to the Triangle!! HAHA, this is macross indeed. and subtlelty be damned, this is a TRIANGLE and you better know it (even Ranka just HAS to make a triangle sign while singing). funny how even alto KNOWS he's in a triangle. after all these triangle in all the macross series, SK is going all out for this one. and i'm loving it. i also love how the sing-off ties into the nyan fro liner notes. with the mention of the live guerilla concert at the formo, and sheryl singing along with ranka's version. and the Sheryl's SOS then straight to What bout my Star finally gets animated. cool. and cute pic of klan feeding michael. but please, dear god, DON'T let that be pineapple salad. scary thing is, it sure LOOKS like pineapple salad. yikes. the plot's getting deeper, but not necessarily murky. the seriousness and action that was eps 13-14 gave way to a lighthearted look into what makes the macross franchise unique and wonderful. brilliant change of pace and mood, as only macross can bring seemlessly, and i wouldn't have it any other way. p.s. if sheryl's Fairy number 9, i wonder who the other 8 were? how long has grace's group been acting? how far does the rabbit hole go? and where does Mylene Jenius fit into all this??? This part really unnerved me. THey were exploring all the other ships it sounds like looking for something. Perhaps the other eight (assuming that there were eight) have something to do with that, although Sheryl was also touring other places so it could be that she's #9 in a different sense -- sort of the inheritor to the legacy of other singers. Ranka's numbering was Q1. That implies there are more.... kind of interesting too. And how is this all going to get resolved in this few episodes? It really boggles the mind. On a more serious note, the conversation between Cathy and Ozma was interesting. We finally get confirmation of their suspicions about what's going on, and they've realized that Leon must be the individual in the President's Office that's responsible. Another item that caught my attention was Ozma calling attention to Mr. Bilrer's sudden interest in Alto. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Ozma and Mr. Bilrer are part of the same "side" in this whole thing. Given that... 1.) Ozma apparently asked Ranka to keep a secret (probably her background - she mentions the secret in episode 3 when she sees Ozma's fighter being carried to the hanger and freaks out), suggesting that Ozma is aware that people will be interested in Ranka due to who she is, and 2.) The SMS is about as familiar as anyone with the Vajra, even having their own code for them despite the fact that Frontier has never actually encountered them, and 3.) Dialogue among the Galaxy conspirators (i.e. Grace's group) coupled with the fact that Alto vanishes from Grace's camera as he approaches Mr. Bilrer's mansion, and 4.) The fact that Ozma calls attention to the fact that Mr. Bilrer has taken an interest in Alto, and 5.) The fact that the older adopted brother of the "Little Queen" would just happen to be the squadron leader for Mr. Bilrer All lead me to suspect that whatever Mr. Bilrer is up to, he's been working with Ozma who's fully aware of what Mr. Bilrer's plans are. It's just a guess, though. We'll find out more next week. He isn't a Warrant Officer anymore.....right? Isn't Alto a Lieutenant now? We don't know when the promotion actually takes/took place. It's possible that he hasn't actually been awarded the new rank yet, and it might be one of the things that Mr. Bilrer plans to do while he's speaking with Alto. I was wondering why Mr. Bilra make his move with Alto-Hime /Speculation mode ON I'm not going into deep theories, but maybe the factor that activates the "ability" on Ranka is love, same reason why Sheryl can't do the same before. I said before because only in the Frontier Fleet she meets Alto-Hime at the same time with Ranka, and according Alto he heard both girls voices in the Vajra carrier back to ep 7. I would imagine that it doesn't get much vehicle traffic during the middle of the day. I noticed not only the road near SMS HQ, but nearly all the time - the roads were empty!! i think the only time we get a traffic jam in frontier is in the previous ep where there's a state of emergency. makes me wonder if the frontier is made too big for a small population. At least Alto's seen both their goodies, so no surprises there. Ranka's pet being fed by Nanase ... and since Ranka and Alto were in quarantine, Ranka didnt get to see her pet - she went to visit Sheryl first Ha! From the way they were talking about how Frontier was chosen, it sounded to me as if they planned to contaminate Frontier with something, and the bio-plant would cause the contamination to spread.
