  1. The likelyhood of this show getting a mass release in the US just went up 100 fold. A lot of licensers won't touch an older series unless its been remastered. Its tenative connection to macross could make it a big seller.
  2. Has anybody else here seen Cat Planet Cuties aka Bombshells from the sky aka Asobi Ni Ikuyo? Its been a long time since I enjoyed a harem show or found one funny so this was a breath of fresh air. There are a ton of western world pop and sci-fi references in it including Mutley from Wacky Races and Star Trek, but what truly shocked me was a direct reference to Red Dwarf of all things! My jaw just hit the floor when it happened.
  3. I just started watching Lupin the 3rd 1st series. Prior to this my experience with the franchise has been watching Castle of Cagliostro, collecting a few figures, and just reading about it online. To be honest I didn't expect the level of violence that this series has. In the first episode alone there has to be over 100 people killed between Lupin electrocuting an entire assembly rooms worth of a criminal syndicate and throwing time bombs on enemy race cars. I actually had to go back and watch it again just to be sure I really did just see that unfold. Am I complaining? HELL NO! Despite its age and having the "classic Lupin formula" each episode has been very entertaining, and its great that the main man Lupin himself in many ways just doesn't give a **** compared to modern male characters. Jigen makes a great foil for Lupin, and Fujiko is hot even with 70's animation standards too. I haven't gotten to an episode with Goemon yet.
  4. I wonder if now is a good time to admit to owning this. It's the original release, and I still haven't put it together.
  5. Wasn't there a videogame like this supposedly coming out involving gundam kits fighting in a diorama enviroment?
  6. One thing I'm not sure that has been discussed is what happens several years from now when the new MS system replacing the XBone comes and MS shuts down the Bone's servers? Are people going to be cool with the fact that all the money sunk into it for games is rendered moot when MS says "Forget the Xbox one, you buy this new system if you want to play!"?
  7. I started watching Infinite Stratos. At first I was face palming at the main characters actions thinking "here we go another wishy washy dumbass punching bag", but as the first episode went he started showing a bit of a backbone, and has a limit to how far he can be pushed. I wonder if this will hold out for the rest of the series?
  8. Voice acting aside, what interested me is this so-called split of MGS V into two games. From what I've read the first half is a typical MGS game, and the second might be an open world sanbox type game.
  9. Technically yes, but I'm pretty sure a few got the aformentioned "Lindelof shot".
  10. The DBG-88 is the JU-88 Mistel variant, and the FWG-97 could be the Bachem Ba-349 Natter or the Ta-183 Huckbein prototype that was never bult. If that bulge in the nose is a weapons pod I'd say it was the Natter.
  11. I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  12. ... I haven't seen any of season 3 yet, but I'm guessing its reached that point in the novels? Nobody saw it coming in the novels either.
  13. Well thanks to my vacation and memorial day off I was able to get through a chunk of my haul. Bodacious Space Pirates- Great show! I really loved the pacing. You could see really where other shows would have wasted time and stretched a handful of episodes like the initial training cruise arc into an entire season, but BSP just keeps rolling along at a brisk pace. The characters are all memorable too, and they interact great together, and no one comes off as annoying. If there's anything bad its that the ending left me waiting with anticipation for the movie coming out soon. Cobra Space Adventure- This is the feature film rerelease from discotek, and I have to say they did a heck of a job remastering it. My only complaint is that its fairly brief and doesn't always make clear what is going on. It also has that classic 60-70s trippy visual effects at times. Allison & Lillia series 2- I can't state enough how much of a classic this show is. If you liked Porrco Rosso or alternate history novels set around pre WWII this is perfect for you. Castle of Cagliostro- Epic classic, and probably my top Ghibli film. I doubt I can say anymore than has already been said. Mad Bull 34- This is one of those bad shows that is so bad it ends up being insanely entertaining. Especially if you watch the dub. The last episode is also rather entertaining for the sheer amount of references to 80s american pop culture with thing like robocop, airwolf, predator, alien, and Lethal Weapon. Be warned though, there are boobies, and women aren't exactly shown in a possitive light. They come in three flavors hooker, psychob****, or rape victim. I would be embaressed if this show wasn't so bat **** crazy and over the top. Where else are you going to find a NYPD officer that looks like Mike Hagger wearing the powerloader from aliens fighting the predator in the middle of Yankee Stadium? Shin Getter Robo Vs Neo Getter Robo- I'm about half way through this OVA series, and finding it very entertaining. Its a bit of a adjustment given that my only other experience with Getter was the very dark Armageddon(which was good in its own different way). As I understand it this series is closer to what the regular Getter Robo is, and that's not bad. I'm really enjoying the two hot heads from the different robo's arguing over who can take more pain, and who has suffered the most injuries, when they aren't smacking each other around for the hell of it. On a side note, I think I can understand what took it so long to be released in the states, given its vintage of 2000-01 and the very first thing you see is New York with the saurion forces overshadowing the world trade centers before the city is subsiquently blown up in less than two minutes.
  14. My only complaint is it was too linear, with very little in the way of replay value.
  15. He got his start by also directing plaboy/softcore videos too. Hence the "slow close up as she walks on stairs" or the "slow pan as she lays on a vehicle" shot each film has contained.
  16. In Gunsmith Cats, the GT-500 Shelby.
  17. So looking at the last two trailers we have a Tex Avery inspired film featuring a crop dusting P-51, a lucha libre GeeBee, and somewhere in there an ENTIRE squadron of F4U corsairs! What's not to like?
  18. Well Qwaser is more or less bought just so I can say years later "Yeah remember that horrible, horrible show with the breast milk? I own that.". As for Kampfer I enjoyed the tv series because I saw it as a bit of a parody of several genre's like magical girl, fighting girl clothes shredding, and things like pokemon with the entrails animals. I'm also toying with the idea of doing a panel on ecchi next year covering what it is, how its different from hentai, good shows(Najica and Freezing for example), and bad ones(Qwaser).
  19. I dunno I thought that short haired blonde helmswoman from near the end of film was cute and hot.
  20. I'm back from AnimeBoston, and here's my yearly haul. Bodacious Space Pirates parts 1+2 Battle Girls: Time Paradox Majikoi: Samurai Girls Cat Planet Cuties(aka Bombshells from heaven) Infinite Stratos Dirty Pair TV part 2 Allison and Lillia part 2(waited from last years AB to get this classic) Simoun Kampfer fur die liebe Qwaser of Sigmata season 1 and 2 Dairugger XV collection 2 Mad Bull 34 Castle of Cagliostro Lupin the 3rd complete first series Space Adventure Cobra feature film Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo Yeah my taste in anime is pretty much all over the place. Anyways I also won a super robot battlecry contest at a mecha panel I attended with the prizes being a pair of balls(RB-79 HGUC), Getter Robo Armageddon, and in something of a gag gift the first part of ADV's Aura Battler Dunbine. Its a joke because I'm not likely to EVER find the rest of the discs now, especially the last one.
  21. Well I decided not to get the Petra variant or the Hiroki Yagami figure. Instead I got the pink variant of this...http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?oldscode=84927 Yep, its a Tamaki figure. I didn't know it when I bought it(marked $120 got it for $60) I just really liked the look of it. When I finally took a better look and saw the series and character name all I could think was "Son of ***** was right". Up to this point I didn't own a single Tamaki figure and I've been collecting for ove 10 years.
  22. Do you guys think its worth going back and getting the red variant of Petra? I'm not a big fan of paint varian, but its the same price. I'm very close to also pulling the trigger on the Futari ni omakase police woman figure. Its from Hiroki Yagami the G-taste guy, resin, and its only $60. The only problem is there are tons of other things I want to buy, even though I already have the other statue in the set.
  23. Not really, but because the series creator is a military history nut its funny to know its all because of a pun. The 501st joint striker wing was created in the series history during 1937 in Spain, and is based on the real life international brigades that fought for the republican forces. The republican battlecry was "No Pasaran!" Hence in Strike Witches "No pants are on!". Another interesting joke is Sanya the Russian. In WWII women pilots in the Soviet airforce were nicknamed "night witches", and it just so happens Sanya is the only night fighter in the unit. Then there's how every major neuroi in the show is based on some type of German, Russian, or American prototype jet or rocket. The original season 1 Neuroi even represent facist Italy and their replacement in season two by an even bigger and worse neuroi cloud is based on Italy's capitulation and the Germans taking over the Italian front.
