DX YF-29 Durandal (Maximillian Jenius Unit) WWM Release

Nope, site cannot be reached. Think it's the same reason I can't access the LEGO main site either. Actually this one might be a browser issue, since I got to it easily on my phone. -
DX YF-29 Durandal (Maximillian Jenius Unit) WWM Release
Chronocidal replied to no3Ljm's topic in Toys
Huh.. I would actually order with BBTS if I could get to the site, but it seems to be down for the moment. Maybe related to the email I got from them about the Max 29 release? I think my ISP has been having some serious routing issues lately though. -
That's the weird part. I can't. It won't let me. It just ignores the input, and sits on that block of text error screen. It's going better today than yesterday though, so something seems to be getting fixed gradually. I just have to search for a specific item page in the store, and THEN it will let me backtrack to the main page now. It seems to be linked to the region selection page, because if I get into the shop, then go to change regions, every region option except for US-English works fine.

That top picture actually looks as though it's in as far as it should go naturally, so that one does look better than my Hayate. Fingers crossed they did it. Not in a rush to find out, so it'll be a few months before I get it in hand, while I wait for other releases.

Not sure which issues we're referring to, but probably. At least one gun looks mostly lined up well, and it does look like he got the wing tabs into the legs at least. Question is how much force and/or filing it took.

Typing "lego.com" gives me literally this on both Chrome and Firefox: Now, it might be an auto-routing problem, since it auto-fills the address as lego.com/en-us Clicking the buy button on any product in the store gives me this: ... Ok, that's bizarre, maybe it's a region routing issue? I cannot access the US/English site at all. It defaulted to the Malaysia webshop for me, which is what gave me those odd buying options. I can actually access the US site, but only in Spanish?? It loads all the prices in USD, and seems to work fine, but the US/English site is just completely busted. Edit: I finally got it to function, but only by going a roundabout method of loading another regional site, typing a nonsense address to get their 404 page, and THEN I can load the main shop site for the US/English region. Just very weird.

Disney Pixar's LIGHTYEAR - June 2022

Sadly don't have a Target here, and they don't appear to be online, but I might make a trip down to the nearest Walmart this weekend to take a look. I did check online, but the individual ships were actually twice as much at Walmart as they were on Amazon, with shipping added on top of that. I do want to get some of the single-packed versions for their different figures and painted details eventually, but it's not a huge priority. I mostly just want some I can customize. LEGO-wise, I actually ordered a pair of the XL-15 sets (from Amazon though.. something weird is going on with the main LEGO site at the moment). I plan on mashing them together to make a bigger one, essentially, and hopefully rebuild it to be a lot more accurate. It's a nice design, but pretty severely off-model for the ship itself, since they turned the swept intake structures into blunted blocks of bricks, and I think that could be greatly improved with a few slopes and panels. Think they could have done much better for the tail fins as well, since those shuttle ones are about 3x too tall. The ship is all extremely angular, and I think building the fuselage out of hinged plates should do wonders for the shape.- 114 replies

Yeah, I have a backup order there, but in the end backups of this one weren't really necessary. I'm fine letting both of mine ride a long while. After the Hayate release, I was kind of indifferent if I ever got my backup from LP as well, but they wound up coming through.

So.. I don't know if this just came up for pre-order or what, but imagine how my mind was blown casually logging into HLJ this morning, and finding the "add to cart" button just.. sitting there.. being functional. https://www.hlj.com/chogokin-xl-15-space-ship-bans63461 Might be the first time I've ever seen that for a Bandai DX pre-order. (Though, Anime Export has a slightly better price, FYI). Judging by the contents list, looks like the landing gear might be detachable, which is a little disappointing, but not a deal breaker for me. This thing's a lot easier on the wallet than a Valk.- 114 replies

I need a ton of those. Badly. Also, I could not help but see this. On an unrelated note.. what's going on with the LEGO website? The entire site seems to be completely missing right now, and gives me some github wall of text? I can get to the shop at home site, but every single product sends me to a third party store to purchase.

Funny thing. this actually literally happens in one of the early trailers, where Buzz activates a shield on the canopy. Different ship, but no reason to think they don't all have the ability. I'll definitely be interested in picking one of the Chogokin versions up, will certainly be a step up from the $12 toy version. Would much rather have the XL-01 though, that design is my favorite by far. I would happily pick up 1/72 kits of any of these if Bandai makes them... I really don't need another pre-order madness franchise to follow. To be fair to the Mattel ones though, they actually have a decent amount of detail baked into them, but I suspect they are closer to something like 1/100-1/120 scale, despite the 1/60-ish pilot figures. They only fit in the cockpits laying flat out on their backs, and my impression is that the XL-01 is supposed to be much bigger than the XL-15. Otherwise, they look like a pretty good fit with HMR-sized stuff. It's pretty rough, but the pilot from an HMR VF-4 seems close to the proportions of the Buzz in that DX picture above. He looks about the right size to sit on top of the console in this position. Fortunately, those DX shots also give me a nice painting guide to add some details to the 15. Also still waiting on the XL-02, which reminds me of something I'm still trying to pin down.. maybe one of the old Wing Commander ship designs? Or maybe something from Freespace.. This is almost literally how I feel about the VF-1. The old Takatoku valks were something I had no idea existed, and a G1 Jetfire was far beyond my reach. I found my way into Macross when the Yamato 1/48 was just coming into existence, and when I saw an actual realistic-looking VF-1 that didn't cost the thousands of dollars people were asking for Takatokus on Ebay, I was overjoyed. I would also be absolutely floored if they do an intro of Andy taking his son to watch this movie in-universe. Maybe a bit too convoluted for the main release, but I hope Pixar films bonus scenes of it at the very least.- 114 replies

Looks like it. I think I'll let it sit awhile though, can bundle it with Hayate's super parts when they hit, which should be at the end of May.
-
So this surprised me, Anime Export just informed me that this is in stock?

I think everything not Delta-related got shoved to the back of the line for a while so they can focus on getting out merchandise to go with the new movie. They're also probably hurting for options at the moment, and the quality control issues with the 31AX would seem to indicate they're farming out their product lines to cheaper alternative sources. With shipping and manufacturing going as they are, they probably don't have the capacity to support a second product line right now.

I'd love to see more of the designs from the animation, I've always thought the Fand 2 was an insanely wacky design and would love to get one, but I think I'd actually prefer the first version, since it looks almost like a sci-fi upgrade to an F-16.

Disney Pixar's LIGHTYEAR - June 2022
Chronocidal replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just checked on Amazon, and they've got a few of those ships available, all for about $12. They look like they might be die-cast, but they all say they're plastic, which I'm actually hoping for, since these are cheap enough I don't feel at all bad doing a few little modifications. The bigger ship has a whole bunch of gimmicks to load Buzz into the cockpit and pop him out with his backpack extended, and doesn't look bad at all, but I'm more interested in the smaller ships at this point. The single-packed XL-01 and XL-02 don't look available quite yet, so I'll probably grab them later, but there is a bundled pack of the XL-01 and XL-15 available now, with some alternate markings (looks like painted crash damage on the XL-01). I grabbed two of those twin packs and a pair of the Gradius design for now. The thing I'm absolutely floored about though is that I actually think this might be the first time since the Star Wars Action Fleet line that I have seen spaceship toys at this price point that actually have retractable landing gear. Am I just forgetting things?- 114 replies

Yeah, I don't know, maybe it's the weird thickness throwing me off? It just looks really awkward, like the nose is way too long and skinny.

Did her pre-order happen before Hayate's released?

I don't care what the age ranges on those are, I'm planning on picking up any versions of those ships in any size they come. This is probably the first time in literally decades I've seen a film with designs this good actually milking the merchandise train and producing fun-looking spaceship toys.- 114 replies

He was laid back pretty far, judging by the photos. It's definitely something like a sportscar cockpit. I really don't know what's going on with those proportions though, it looks like the whole thing is either too long ahead of the windshield, or maybe just way too thin? The locations of the side recesses are definitely way off.
-
Definitely a unique windshield. Some interesting parts, but least interesting subject they've made in a while. Also.. I'm glad to see my memory wasn't wrong, but those proportions look really bad.
-
Just out of curiosity, Hikaru Fan Racer pilot are you scaling it to? Because despite what it says on the box, Bandai's and Yamato's Fan Racers are both about 1/60.
-
Really nice display! Like the mostly to-scale layout there as well, those all look pretty close, and I'm glad to see that the UCS Falcon isn't far off the dimensions of some of those supercar sets they have.

Finally got my last order of parts in on this mess, and think I'm calling it "complete" and documenting the changes so I can upload them somewhere. I redesigned the pad base to use four 16x16 plates instead of flat baseplates, so this new base could technically be expanded to mount on the full crawler. Wound up raising the shuttle mounting by one plate to give the tail clearance over the railing, and it just barely clears, which actually looks accurate to the photos I've seen. If I could get it to align, I'd probably build a secondary support for the orbiter into the fueling connections below the OMS pods, but there's not much room to work with. I just have some generic piping elements in there, and they do the job visually. Last "major" mod was shifting the layers of the wing on top and bottom to get a bit more black leading edge on the front half, and redesigning the gray leading edge layer to use the old notched wing design so I could let it overhang on both top and bottom. I like the newer angled tiles, but they're too small to make an overhang with, since they would just float between studs. Maybe while I've got a ton of gray pieces around, I'll see if I can't make a matching base for my Saturn V. Hmmmm...

It could also be related to the janky sliding bit on the arms. Not getting it all the way positioned means the guns droop even more than usual, and it all just compounds the issue.
