Yeah, that's just a frustratingly bizarre choice for them. Judging by the assembly details, and the fact that Hasegawa keeps cranking out their kits, I think they're trying to offer an alternative for people who just don't want to deal with building an actual model. Maybe they're trying to compete with the Bandai kit?

Top Gun: Maverick (Top Gun 2 is comin)
Chronocidal replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Seeing them add this to Microsoft Flight Simulator was a rather interesting surprise, and I'm glad they went to the effort to add both that and the F-18 to the new sim. The FSX F-18 was never insanely accurate, but it was fun to fly, and I expect this SR-72 will be the same. I'm sad they didn't include any scenery content with that update though. With all of the amazing mapping tech that went into the sim, it's a crying shame that the auto-gen scenery for FSX grinds the new sim's scenery for places like China Lake and Edwards AFB into the dirt by comparison. FSX had static F-16s for Edwards, and in the proper markings, and China Lake at least had accurate buildings. FS2020 just has garbage auto-gen scenery assets thrown all over with no effort expended at all (rows of Cessnas, some parked sticking halfway through hangar walls, even). I expect it has something to do with them being restricted from using their map-generating tools with military installations, but it looks like they just decided to use that as an excuse to exert no effort at all, and take the Bethesda route, relying on the players to finish their unfinished content. -
Interesting, I never had that issue with either of my original Chuck releases. Wonder if there was some damage to the molds somewhere during his run.

This nonsense makes me wish I could reach through the internet and slap whoever is responsible. This was one of the primary reasons the v1 DX VF-25 was such a disaster, and something they even repeated on the updated VF-27 when they added the leg packs.. freakin.. just engineer your crap to fit together already, Bandai. It's not that hard.

The Kairos Plus releases gained a quick reputation of being lemons, due to the manufacturing flaws, but I think all of the pre-orders for both Hayate's and Mirage's were placed before anyone knew about the problems, so you've probably got some people who bought up pre-orders trying to dump them now.
-
Yeah, I'm going to wait a couple of months before I go for either of those two, since I have other (bigger) projects in the works at the moment, and need to save up.
-
The only "bad" experience I had with them was when they tried to list the original release of Alto's YF-29. They let the order linger for a couple of years with no updates, until they just quietly cancelled it with no notice to me. I didn't really blame them for that one though, and I'd long given up on them being able to get it. Otherwise they've been solid for most of the stuff I've ordered, but I'm still waiting for them to ship my Kalavinka.

It might seem silly, but a lot of the prints I've gotten to come out well have been positioned with end blocks and bases that I manually added in, almost as if I was designing pour stubs for a resin mold. They help stabilize the model, and can do a lot to preserve hard edges when you need them.

Does it count as lying on your workbench if what you're building is essentially.. a bench? I'm finally taking the dive into building a simulator cockpit for DCS, and planning out the wood I'll need to buy to build the seat. Figure that's a good starting point, since there are no electronics involved, and I can get my head around the types of wood I'll be using for the rest. Going to be a big project and take a ton of space, but I'm trying to keep it modular. The whole thing is going to be roughly 4'x5', and I'm going to be spending some time clearing space in the corner of my office. Just hoping I can run all the necessary cables across to the PC so I don't need to relocate that.
-
The other side of this could be that shipping is just that much more expensive now. Going through a US vendor, you're essentially paying shipping twice, and one of those times is about to get a massive hike, while the other has been gradually increasing for the past couple of years.

Arcadia 1/60 VF-4A ‘Flashback 2012’ Premium Finish & Regular Release
Chronocidal replied to no3Ljm's topic in Toys
I think the only serious flaw some people saw was some bad die-cast in the shoulder joints on the early releases. I don't even remember if it was more than one case of that, but I do remember people loosening the shoulder joint screws as a preventative measure.- 1113 replies

Arcadia 1/60 VF-4A ‘Flashback 2012’ Premium Finish & Regular Release

The new release was quite a bit better at holding on the missiles, but yes, I just stuck a small sliver of scotch tape over the tabs on my old Yamato release, and they all hold very firmly.- 1113 replies

Star Wars Disney+ limited TV Series

I'd pay good money to see those novels realized as any sort of series, animated, live, or whatever. Think that scene was a mashup of the books though, since the SSD didn't leave until the end of the third book. Definitely more chaotic than made sense, but still impressive to see the detail that went into it. Edit: Reminds me that I need to re-read those books again, got the events out of order. The battle over Coruscant was Wedge's Gamble, the Lusankya exit was at the end of The Krytos Trap. Though, I also realized later that the pilots are using the Wraith callsign, which didn't even exist until the fifth book, so...- 1403 replies

Top Gun: Maverick (Top Gun 2 is comin)
Chronocidal replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Really happy to see so many solid recommendations on this one. Was not expecting much, but seems to be a genuine love letter to the original. Don't know when I'll get to see it, but hopefully not too long. -
I did make a couple of small discoveries about the hinge tool in Studio. There are a few ways to tweak it to give better results than the default snapped angles. One way is to just manually enter an angle, which I think will accept up to two decimal places? It's a little clunky, but it works for nudging parts back and forth by tiny increments. The other way I've noticed is that the snaps seem to disengage if you drag the cursor away from the rotation center. Once you get a long lever arm to move, it's like it goes into a fine-alignment mode, and will give you much more freedom in how the pieces are angled.

This is really my entire issue with the reveal. The cloud always felt more impressive and ominous than anything they could have come up with otherwise. The size they originally mentioned for the cloud itself wouldn't even have fit within our solar system, so I was perfectly content never directly seeing where it was in relation to Earth. Now, if they had managed to render that graphic with the same perspective so that it cast a shadow across the planet and disappeared partly behind the horizon? I think I would have been more sold. I haven't seen that cut, so maybe it does that in that version, but all of the pictures I've seen place it far enough away from the planet that you never get that sense of scale.

Yeah, there are tricks to getting the Bricklink search to actually function. I learned early on, you always start with the shorter dimension when listing studs, or it just loses its mind. On the plus side, at least things are consistent between that and the Studio program, so finding something there visually will usually give you the exact name to look up (if you don't feel like typing in serial numbers). They need to take a few cues from other CAD software though, I'm building a long list of niggling things that it should probably do, but just doesn't. Multiple drag/select boxes while holding CTRL is one of them, as well as box dragging for de-selecting from a current selection, or some sort of fix so parts don't suddenly zoom off fifty miles below the bottom of your model when you move them. Far as stickers go, I really just avoid using them in general. I never apply the ones that come with sets, because I hate locking the parts into a specific use. I may order a bunch of spare marking tiles for this Shuttle though, so I can make a full set of nameplates and wing markings to swap in and out.

See, this is what I get for thinking search functions are reliable. I searched for "ball" and this never came up. Thanks, that actually should do the trick, it's the same exact size, and actually comes in gray.

Ugh.. those moments when you realize LEGO already makes the perfect piece for what you need.. Only to realize they've never even made it in a solid color. Have to admit, I'm really tempted to just paint the piece. Otherwise I'm just stuck with the oddball profile from the upside-down round tile if I don't want a stud sticking out the middle.

In the world of Bandai, the bare metal landing gear are a feature. Gotta milk that die cast nostalgia from the original DX. That's what nostalgia is, right? Missing a time when people did things worse than today?

Interesting thing I noticed, in regards to Classic Space things.. anyone get a good look at the minifig's shirt in that promotional item?
-
I mean, maybe it was done in tribute to how that was actually what they did in TOS for soft-focus shots? Still.. yeah, that's just kind of unbelievable that they did such a shoddy job of editing things. The original just looks better.
