Saw that new rocket launching complex was up on the shop, and decided to splurge a bit, and grabbed a pair of them. Hopefully that'll give me all the parts I need for shuttle boosters in the Saturn V scale, so all I need now is a pile of orange parts for the tank. There have been a few nice revisions to the original KingsKnight shuttle that eliminate some of the more outdated elements, and solve some of the layering issues the wings had, so I'm looking forward to getting around to building that up... someday.

Don't worry, I'm sure it won't look like any shade of red we expect, or have seen before, especially not the ones seen in the animation or promotional pictures.

We've at least seen product images of Mirage's, but I don't know if we've seen any outside of a product photoshoot.

Ok, I will give them credit, that color looks a whole lot closer to the screenshots. Still not sure how they managed to redesign the cockpit and make all of the pilots look ten years old, but it's Bandai, so what're you gonna do?

Disney Pixar's LIGHTYEAR - June 2022
Chronocidal replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have only minimal hopes that this will be a good movie, but I'm already loving the ship designs. I'll probably happily pick up both of those designs. Would love to see some model kits too, but I imagine that'll depend on it being successful enough for someone to pick up the license. Also, just going to throw out a thought here.. Has there ever actually been a Buzz toy with all of the features of the original movie? I could do without the arm chopping action, but I'd love to see one actually do all of the lights and sounds with the correct wing transformation mechanism.- 114 replies

Ok, but can we get a Skystriker repaint of Maverick? I'd buy a few of those.- 17117 replies

Boy they're really desperate to sell this one, aren't they? I'll give credit where it's due, that's a fantastic render, and if they were selling that model, I'd absolutely buy one to use in something like DCS. or MS Flight Sim. They clearly have a prototype, since the VAs were fiddling with one.. but apparently the physical product isn't good enough for their promotional images? I mean.. I don't blame them, the actual toy is infinitely more gappy than their CGI copy, and there's no way those arms and hands can hold the gunpod that well.

Think we're talking about the same thing in different ways. I was referring to the round base that he used in those photos, which isn't part of the model hosted on the site. You'd have to mount the arm to your own base to use it as a stand. I agree, that little base he used isn't going to hold anything bigger than an HMR valk. The thickness of the arm itself might be pretty thin to support larger models too, really, but I don't know how sturdy his printed versions are.

Don't believe that base is actually part of the model, which is a little surprising, but it wouldn't be hard to make a bigger one, or maybe mount that arm to a weighted wooden base. The arm itself doesn't look bad, though I wouldn't trust the more spindly-looking connection pieces. Printed parts are really versatile, but the printing process can make them very structurally weak in certain directions. Found that out the hard way with my Excalibur stand pedestal, which really just needs to be cut from acrylic sheet to be strong enough.

I'm going to say my first thought was "Garbage Pail Kids: The Next Generation."

No Kitkat here, but they did pack my 31AX nicely with a decent amount of padding in a good box, so Luna Park and DHL both came through in this case at least. Actual valk is about the same as my previous one, with a few variations. One arm slider was so stiff I had to knock it loose by tapping it with a wrench, and the wing tabs needed a good sanding before they fit. Overall arm fit actually looks better on this one, but it's also got the added detriment of one wing sitting at a significantly higher angle than the other when snapped into place. Urgh. Get it together Bandai.

They managed that with the VF-19s, having the center head laser mounted in a track, but it doesn't look like there's much room for that on this head design. Also, the laser is so long, I'm thinking it wouldn't make that much difference if they did. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

Thank you. That's all I really wanted to hear.

Honestly, I'm more likely to strip the panel lining than leave it. I just want all the markings printed on.

Sheesh.. yeah, suppose if they're offering them by lottery only, they must have found extra stock somewhere, or something. I'd actually be curious to see how their sales for the VF-1J/GBP-1 bundle went, and whether that could be influencing their thoughts on selling bundles in the future. I think that was the first time since the v.1 VF-25 that they've offered any sort of valk+armor bundle?* *That's not counting the VF-27 bundle (which was never released separately), or the YF-29 Alto re-release (since the YF-29 parts were so utterly insignificant, they should never have been separate in the first place).

Would love to see a DYRL Roy release, but probably more likely to be a Max version, since he's the only DYRL scheme we haven't seen yet. I really really hope they keep going and give use a 1/48 VT-1 though, since that would be a first in that scale I believe.

I mean, they could solve everything by just having the laser lay flat in fighter mode, but for some reason none of the rear-facing single-laser head designs ever seem to do that? Drives me a bit bats really, because I'm always worried about bumping into them and breaking them. I think the VF-25A/G is the only head that allows the laser to mostly streamline in fighter mode. At least with the VF-19s and VF-11 the center lasers can be pushed down to hide under the arm shield. Fortunately that booster slot doesn't really bother me, since I'd rather display this one naked anyhow.

That "late tax" is the primary thing stopping me from getting more of these.. well, that, and lack of dedicated display space. I still beat myself up over never getting the MiG-15 and F-86 when they were clogging the shelves of my local Wal-Mart, though I was glad to get one of the F-104 releases. I always wish they had expanded a little more on the 1/32 line they did, since those were a lot more manageable in terms of space and price. I only saw a smattering of WWII aircraft in that lineup, and snagged a Corsair and Thunderbolt at least, but I think the smaller scale hurt their durability as "toys." I've kept that Corsair on my desk at work for years, but the landing gear are pretty fragile, and didn't survive the 2019 earthquake.

Suppose delays are inevitable these days, but this one's pushing almost a year late at this point. Annoying part is, that's pushing the release awfully close to the Nora Sv-51.. going to make early summer expensive.
-
That's a curious thing, how are the prices trending for them?
-
Boy I love fast shipping across the international dateline. I actually misread this, thinking it had arrived in LA already, but sadly it just looks like a customs clearance update. Also woo, Luna Park finally got around to my order.. now the wait begins to see if it arrives in one piece.

Oooh, that's a beauty! What brand? -
No worries there, no feathers to ruffle in the first place. I actually meant to say that the whole VF-31 line has generally been one of Bandai's most solid products in recent memory, not just specifically the 31A. That one is my favorite, but it's almost entirely due to the paint scheme. Up to this point, the quality control and engineering on all of the 31 releases has been very good, and I hope we get back to that level of polish by the time Mirage's comes out. Design wise though, I think the AX feels like a downgrade from the original VF-31, and I'd rather have more paint variants of that older design than this "upgrade." Sadly, that's not really something Bandai ever does.

This is mostly what I was commenting on, actually, somehow missing the fact that the entire engine is exposed in the back end. Has he's got some kind of atomic battery in the front? Or maybe he's got some sort of mega computer rig all lit up there? Does he have a crypto-mining rig built into his car to help sustain the fortune he's burning in gasoline?
