  1. Are you ready for the goat? I think it ate Soundwave's silver paint.
  2. I'm going to sit tight and wait for HLJ's pre-order, but AmiAmi's discount price is more in line with what I expected to pay for one.
  3. How could I forget Inferno Cop? The laughter. The explosions. The music. It was a blast. Literally. Done. Thanks for the recommendation, Keith! Kawaii update...I think this half-hour short gave me a cuteness overload. I bought the Blu-ray direct and will be waiting patiently for episode 2.
  4. Because Kill La Kill was such a favorite of mine, I thought I would give Trigger another go this season. The first episode of When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace has an interesting premise. It's hard to describe since I haven't read the light novel series, but based on what I've seen of the anime I think it is a good mix of the first season of Heroes and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions, where the love isn't as obvious and all of the delusions turn out to be real. The show is quite the diversion from Kill La Kill, but Trigger's talent for introducing ridiculous events and rolling with them is front and center. For instance, there is one scene in particular where the students are "caught" practicing and...well...I'll say no more... My verdict for now is *promising*. This one has my attention.
  5. I agree. I wonder if the speculation over at Transformer World is correct and this is the last gasp for the mold? It would be nice to have another Masterpice Destron leader resized to MP-10. And I would certainly buy a well done version 2 Megatron or an all new Galvatron within MP-10's scale. I'm interested in seeing where Takara will take things since a few of the recent interview have hinted at more Decepticons. For Destron Commanders, it would be nice to see Cyclonus, Scourge, and Straxus, along with Takara's own version of Shockwave. There are so many choices.
  6. If you are handy with wires and solder, you can also string up flexible LED strips. These can be cut to size and placed creatively in a number of ways. I've seen a few clever Detolf set ups while researching this myself where some owners hide the LEDs to create a nice effect. Here is one link to get you started: http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/how-to-display-your-collectibles/33999-lights-detolf-44.html You can see Gakken's display on that page, and there are other great examples throughout to spark some ideas. The all-in-one packages are good, but will require wire management too look good in a Detolf display case. The DIY method has more flexibility, but requires a little more planning and know-how. For instance, I've been procrastinating on that step for my DIY lighting and still have a small workshop going. My plan is to angle the LEDs on some material (corner molding, vinyl trim, balsa wood...something) and hide them from the outside while directing the light onto my valkyries/figures. I was going to then run the wires through a cable channel similar to what The Old Man has set up for his display. I liked how that worked. Anyway, I'll try to remember to snap some pics as I go along.
  7. HA! Jackie is all, "Sorry, fellas. I need to take a load off the ole' servos."
  8. I watched the Fate/stay UTW prologue tonight and thought it was well done. Revisiting the beginning of this story from Rin and Archer's perspective is a nice twist. I also appreciate the advantage Ufotable has over Studio Deen with their ability to bridge the gap between this version of Fate/stay and Fate/zero. Rin gets some early character development and it isn't spoon fed to us in drawn out, extended monologues. IMO, even the annoyed version of Rin from Deen's series was a stronger and more driven character than Shiro and this time Ufotable puts her front and center. That said, we are missing a few important developments while following Rin on her first day. The limited perspective also forces her into becoming a narrator of sorts for the audience. I found that a little taxing a couple times. Anyone who has seen the Deen series may also find those moments repetitive. Oh well. Stuff that stood out in the prologue: The scenes with the archery club. The art and special effects, but moreso the art. All the servant introductions: Archer, Lancer, Saber---fun stuff.
  9. Oh man. Boston Legal was cut too short, and was a favorite of mine as well. I wish the network had given it one or two extra seasons. It had some really intelligent humor amidst the drama. Spader and Shatner were excellent in their roles as Alan and Denny. And I agree *so much* about Boone's acting on The Blacklist in season 1. Even with only a few episodes. season 2 is showing some improvement there. I also hope that means good things are in store for us. Getting a final resolution with Tom would be a nice turn. And no, I didn't recognize Paul Reubens at all. But wow. That is far afield from the old playhouse. HaHa.
  10. Netflix introduced me to a new addiction: The Blacklist. I missed this on NBC last season. This show is all about James Spader and his team of criminals. They steal the limelight from the FBI every week. Spader's character, specifically, is written to be charming, even though he is obviously disturbed. Megan Boone's FBI character was originally introduced as a talented FBI profiler, but instead of showcasing her skillset the audience gets to see her running errands for Raymond Reddington (Spader's character), which is rather weak. There are even times when she crosses the line into corruption. I think it would be nice to see some real consequences for that. The show has tried a couple of times, but quits before making any lasting changes. I like this show because it is not the usual police procedural. I think it could be a lot better if there wasn't a concern with making the bad guys sympathetic to the audience in each episode. I do think the writers are on the right track, though. And each episode shows improvement. Has anyone else picked this one up?
  11. Oh well. I guess I fell for that troll bait fair and square. Back on topic... I somehow missed that this was a thing. I enjoyed the art and story of Fate/zero more than Fate/stay night and have been wondering how Fate/stay would work if the camera moved slightly to focus away from Saber and Shiro Emiya to one of the other players. I'll need to add UBW to my queue. Thank you for the review, Marzan!
  12. Yes you are, and it needs to stop because you are killing this thread.
  13. Nope. Opinion is not reality. I appreciate your opinion, but I don't agree with it. Ohta brings outrageous physical and emotional comedy to Patlabor. His characterization is impulsive, but he is generally a good cop and has good motives. In the series and the movies, his outrageous tone is often delivered as slapstick. He is not written as a twisted or corrupt person, although he can be annoying. Revy is a broken character surviving in a broken world. She does joke at times, but the comedy in Black Lagoon is dark. Revy's character is a true nihilist. She doesn't believe in anything or in any one. For her to do something, she has tp see value in it---some kind of personal gain or return. Most of the time, her motive in each episode is to complete her job as efficiently as possible. As for your generalization of episode 6...??? Wikipedia isn't the best source, but it is a fair source if you are not trolling me about Nietzsche: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_Nietzsche
  14. Revy == Ohta? There is no universe where that computes. Nietzsche's philosophy is a key driver in Black Lagoon, my friend. And the show is dark because of it. Even "Rock" isn't what he seems, and the best the show can ever do is to rise to a shaky middle. Given the viewing habits you've shared in this thread, and the shows that you've listed as favorites, I'm not surprised by your review. I thoroughly enjoyed it, myself, though. Revy is not written as a good character (not even chaotic good). No one working for Lagoon Company is a good character. It is the reality if Roanapur in this fictional world.
  15. I get my n-y payment notices about two weeks in advance with seven days to fulfill my order. I don't mind that. If they offered an order cancellation widget and stopped inflating shipping costs, then I really wouldn't have anything to complain about.
  16. I don't know. The conversion rate favors the US Dollar at the moment. If the rates continue to slide in favor of the dollar, then this will be one expensive Valkyrie to hold at $300 USD. I wouldn't be surprised to see an MSRP of 30,000JPY before the pre-order discounts. I wonder if Arcadia plans to include the stand again or if they will do another set of armaments/goodies like they did with the YF-19?
  17. I prefer the color scheme of Luca's RVF-171 to the RVF-25 and should have the funds for my n-y preorder in a couple of days. I am a little worried because of the problematic CF release, but I am hoping that the quality is more in line with Alto's 171.
  18. I appreciate different opinions. That's cool. The show was originally written for Matt Smith, but put on hold. I haven't been keeping up, so I don't know how many of Capaldi's episodes are actually recycled Matt Smith episodes cut from earlier seasons. Anyway, Wikipedia notes good numbers if you are into that info (The link is between spoiler tags because of Wikipedia's spoilerific plot summary):
  19. Has everyone forgotten Eccleston's Doctor already? He had a rough personality that wasn't always "roses" for humanity. It reminded me a lot of Hartnell and Pertwee from the classic series. I love the stories that remind me that the Doctor is very much an alien, and even though he has adopted the earth, he does not always take humanity's side. I think these arguments between him and Clara are a long time coming. And for those of us who have seen the classic series, this has also happened before. Moffat is weaving more nostalgia into the story. Colin Baker's Doctor often debated/argued with Peri. Tom Baker's Doctor was not on good terms with Adric. A number of the Doctors, although they respected the Brigadier, did not always agree with him or his methods. Nothing that Moffat is doing this season is out of character. I think everyone has become too used to the smitten Doctor. And the powers that be are taking their time wiping the slate clean. My niece continues to watch the show and enjoy it immensely. Matt Smith is still her favorite Doctor and she is a preteen. Capaldi's performance was a bit of a shock for her at first. However, each new episode has given her something new to latch onto, which she likes. Courtney, for example, was a surprise addition to the TARDIS crew that she loved. IIRC, we haven't seen a younger traveling companion at all in NuWho. I'll have to watch the early Amy Pond episodes again. I think Matt Smith's Doctor was only ever visiting her as a child. I also thought the crisis and the Doctor's actions really helped to develop Clara's character. I'm looking forward to the ultimate resolution.
  20. I forgot about the audio changes from 1.0 to 2.0 too, and that one change in particular. The Japanese box set has both films in 1080p, and GitS 1.0 includes the Japanese LPCM stereo track and the English Dolby Digital track. I prefer the Japanese cover with Major Kusanagi. Here is a link: http://www.pustan.com/ld/bd/gits20.html There is an older Japanese release that was 1080i, and coincidentally used the same cover as the new 25th Anniversary Edition. This one didn't get very good reviews: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1368/ghostintheshell_jp.html
  21. We need a new obsession. But my comment was more tongue-in-cheek than serious. LoL!
  22. Lookin' good! Have you had a chance to swoosh it around yet? What do you think of it?
  23. Interesting. The color variation may be due to the magazine's printing methods. This blue, whether it is light or dark in person is certainly more toyish than it appears in the anime, but I am still buying. Nora's SV-51 scheme has a similar toyish appearance to my eyes, but for whatever reason I prefer hers to Ivanov's dark scheme.
