  1. The ogroid is looking mighty sweet. And am I reading the site correctly, is tag hobby listing the MSRP at 35000 yen?
  2. I read somewhere that it isn't Shinji, but one of the background NERV technicians.
  3. LoL! I guess Yuki's suit does have the benefit of "compression" but now I'm left wondering about its utility... Yamamoto looks fabulous in the light. Thanks for the post, treatment. I can't wait to see this one in color.
  4. LoL. May the frakking odds be ever in your favor. This is tough. Yamamoto is one of my favorite characters in the series. That alone makes this version 2 release hard to ignore. However, I was impressed by Flight Suit Yuki's unpainted prototype and let down by the painted version, so I'm going to do my best to wait it out on the fence this time. I do think it's funny that Megahouse won't let poor Yamamoto wear her jacket. This sculpt makes it look like a cape.
  5. I like the new aesthetic. And I'm curious about the differences. Visually, the trailer is promising Star Wars, and I think that is fantastic. But the story is my concern. Abrams has had mixed results with the two neo Star Trek films. Personally, I thought the first one was okay, but the second was a complete disappointment. And that hit/miss ratio has me hesitating here. I'm conflicted, hoping that we get another fun film next year instead of another Phantom Menace.
  6. Yeah. It's a matter of choice and what's important to you. I think people buying now are lucky, because all three versions of 2199 are available. ourstarblazers.com has a nice summary of the packaging: http://ourstarblazers.com/vault/823/ The limited-editions were available for ticket holders in Japan to buy when 2199 was showing in theaters. These are the most collectible now. As you can see in the link above, these volumes include everything in the standard edition and first edition retail releases, plus some additional Naoyuki Kato artwork and a complete set of story boards. The first-edition retail release includes a story board for the first volume only, IIRC. And, like the movie editions, these include the excellent slip case covers for all seven volumes with artwork by Naoyuki Kato. The standard no-frills release is great if you want to save money and just see the series. You do get the episode summary booklets with this version.
  7. I call it successful marketing. AmiAmi is offering 20% off a higher base price of 39744 yen (possibly tax inclusive). When the pre-order window was still open at HLJ, the VF-0D was 10% off 36800 yen, or the same price as CD Japan and Hobby Search. After doing the math, AmiAmi is saving people only 1720 yen before shipping.
  8. HLJ wasn't able to deliver an extra VF-25S my way, but they are getting ready to dispatch a trio of Transformers. I have been waiting for two Takara Legends: Roadbuster and Whirl. MP-21 will be packaged with them too. I think I had Goldbug instead of Bumblebee when I was a kid. I'm looking forward to all three and will post pictures when they arrive.
  9. Most sales are gimmicks. And Black Friday is the biggest gimmick of all. My advice: ignore the drama. I think HLJ's limitations are sensible. Pre-orders already have an on-line discount which is a benefit of ordering early. My guess is that certain items cost HLJ some money during last year's Black Friday sale. I'm not surprised pre-orders were struck from what is acceptable this year. Anyway, take it or leave it. There are other deals to find if you're not limiting yourself to Macross stuff.
  10. Nice. I think that's a fair deal. I would have picked it up at that price if I didn't have the Yamato version already. HLJ is quoting 21420 yen for the GX-67 Arcadia. This year, it's all about Harlock's ship.
  11. Ha! A strange ride indeed, but you also have a very cool tale to tell.
  12. And...I cancelled my extra HLJ order today. I was waiting a couple of days before making my final decision. Ultimately, I'm disappointed with HLJ, and I will be more careful ordering from them in the future. However, since this was an extra 25S that I was setting aside for another forum member, I'm not really down and out. I'm just frustrated by how HLJ handled the ordeal. Luckily, my CDJapan order should be here next week. I do think it's awesome that NY has showed stock for the 25S a number of times after release. And I'm relieved that wm_cheng was able to get one, along with so many other forum members. Ideally, isn't that how every store should be handling this stuff?
  13. I don't think the author is confused so much as he is letting his excitement for the topic run the story. A pure news article would have concentrated on Bandai's exhibit, and maybe given a brief history of Macross to the Forbes on-line audience. I can see some of that in this article, but then (as Brand-X notes) it falls into speculation and opinion without any quotations or references. That part is interesting, but no more or less than any of the "what-if" forum post that have appeared here on Macross World. I will say that it's nice seeing more Macross trickle into the mainstream.
  14. Ditto. Any 2199 figuart that I pick up will be my first and I'm not sure. I wouldn't mind if they are smaller. It will save some display space. The reason they appeal to me now is due to Bandai's hint at more variety. I admit the bishoujo Yamato Girls from MH are very nice, but I'm on my way to having three Yukis and no Dessler or Kodai or Starsha? What? I'll trade the tehepero flight suit Yuki and cherub Yurisha for a nice sculpt of Starsha or a new Yamato Guy.
  15. Here are two extra pics of Figuarts Yuki (thanks to tag hobby). The last one shows a very familiar updo hairstyle accessory. The more I see, the more I like these designs, and I'm glad Bandai is offering an alternative to MegaHouse.
  16. The different names help to match model paints. For example, I have two versions of Mr. Color that I use for DYRL Valkyries: Gray FS36622 (USAF) and Off White. When dry, it's hard to distinguish the two colors. As CoreyD notes above, white has a number of shades. The warmer, antique tones may look less striking but are no less white. The different Valkyrie photos in this thread do a good job of showcasing different colors of white. I think a "yellowed" white or a paint that is failing due to environmental conditions like UV light or heat or oxidation of certain plastics is easier to identify. The following Vintage Gaming site has some good example photos of "yellowed" items: http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/189 If the OP's VF-1J looks like the pictures in the link (that is, more like a well-used G1 Jetfire that was left out in the sun), then it may be time to give it a new paint job. Otherwise, I don't think there is anything to worry about. It's just different "white" paint.
  17. That was one of my favorite revisions in SBY 2199: shift personnel for the various stations. Especially poor Yuki, who had to work serious overtime in the original series. And it means more figures today. Nice pics, myk.
  18. In addition to Doomsday Machine, there are a few that come to my mind: Errand of Mercy The Enterprise Incident The Tholian Web These episodes are notable to me because, like Doomsday Machine, they set up the Enterprise in a conflict situation while on patrol or between two points rather than while orbiting a planet. That gave more reason for nifty special effects.
  19. Ending on a high note of awesome. Congrats, wm!
  20. Good point. I'm doing my best to stay at Spock's raised eyebrow level of curiosity instead of falling into Kirk's ripped shirt level of anxiety. Since I haven't received a cancellation, I'm taking that as a good sign. Ah! It's that time of the year.
  21. To me, that looks like the difference of 19000JPY plus shipping. Paying the yen price, saves about $30US,
  22. The way HLJ is doing the 25S orders gives more credence to first come, first served processing. It is interesting that international shipments seemed to slow over the weekend, though. I was hoping for more positive reports from fellow MW members today. If HLJ is doing another sale at the end of the week, then maybe that preparation is taking up some of their time as well? I don't know. It would be nice to get more good news within the next couple of days.
  23. Pretty cool, right? I posted about the Matt Chat interviews with him in October. The first interview is linked in that thread, but the second interview gets into his experience with the Wizardry games: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=41748&hl=
  24. Yeah. I'm still waiting for HLJ this morning too. I ordered in the first few minutes and I only ordered one 25S, but I have no idea where that puts me on their waiting list. I'm sure HLJ was getting a bunch of requests at the same time that morning.

Bandai just threw down the gauntlet. I love the variety in that display. For me, this will be a fun scale to get into.
