  1. "Remodeled" is directly quoting the mag. Conversion/kit bash might better describe it. It's a battroid conversion of the 1/48 fighter mode kit (note, not 1/72). Alas, it's only on the finished battroid, and not on the actual process of converting the fighter kit to battroid.
  2. Dengeki Hobby #10 2012.10 Full page add announcing the Macross 7 BR Box Complete FIRE. Along with a little add in the corner for FB7. We've seen the info before. Nevertheless, it's great seeing (new?) Mikimoto Haruhiko art of the band. "VF-1 The First Variable Fighter: 30 years of the Variable Fighter VF-1" 6 page article on the VF-1. With a handy timeline of releases from 19982 to 2010. #1 Takatoku Toys: 1982~1984 #2 Bandai: 1984~2010 #3 Yamato: 2001~2008 Kit Models: 1983~2010 (cursory glance: Imai, Nichimo, Hasegawa, etc.) "VF-1J Valkyrie Battroid Mode" 3 page article on a "remodeled" Hasegawa 1/48 VF-1J Fighter Macross the Forefront: - DX Chougoukin VF-25G Messiah Valkyrie Renewal Ver.: ¥14,700. Release: end of September. Quite a few picts, mostly highlighting the SSL-9B (open, closed, how it mounts ventrally in GERWALK), the grappling hook and knife. - DX Chougoukin VF-171EX Nightmare Plus Armoured Parts: ¥5,040. Release: planned for December. - DX Chougoukin YF-29 30th anniversary colours (VF-1S themed). ¥17,850. Release: planned for October. - Macross F Warehouse 10: collector card series. ¥105. Release: planned for early September. - Macross FB7: planned release October 20. - Yamato 1/60 fully transformable Planet Zola Patrol Corps. Specification VF-19P: ¥23,100. Release: planned for November. - Yamato 1/60 fully transformable VF-4G Lightning III: ¥26,985. Release: planned for December. Concluding thoughts: twas a little disappointed at how thin the Macross content was this issue...
  3. Don't know. It made the written language that much easier to learn and greatly improved literacy rates... and it's not like it hasn't been done before. *cough* Japan, 1946 *cough*
  4. Say wha..? With lines like, "it could be a beaker full of death", you can't help but laugh at his sly humour.
  5. Question: is that AV8 Harrier's length including, or not including that long antenna (refueling probe?) on the front of it's nose? If yes, than it may make a bit more sense to not visualize the VF-1 as being the "same" size as the AV8, simply because visually that antenna doesn't stand out enough... the other thing that one must keep in mind are the thermonuclear engines. They don't require as much fuel to operate (thereby removing fuel tank volume from the airframe) and are more efficient than the Pegasus engine in the Harriers (which is somewhat large for a jet fighter engine), so that may also throw off any visual comparisons.
  6. This makes no sense. Buddhism died out in India by the end of the 19th century. Perhaps he's just a member of Shingon Buddhism? 'cause, you know, Kobo-daishi apparently threw a Vajra from China into the centre of what became Koya-san. That or Tendai Buddhism... cause you can meet Basara (Vajra) himself at Sanjusangen-do. I have. "Ore no uta kikkekeke!"
  7. Money and fame publicity to tie them over while they do the projects that they really want to do.
  8. Hopefully the heavy rains will have stopped by them - talk about bad timing for the most torrential rains in years. >.<
  9. Now you've gone political. North Korea does have the power to invade it's neighbours, but it doesn't, 'cuz two of them are allies, and those allies pressure NK to not invade it's remaining neighbour. Nonetheless, it regularly lobs missiles over it's neighbours and *apparently* has the capabilities to put nukes on those. Even without nukes or malicious intent, the chance of having a falling rocket part land on you is still alarming. Apparently they also have a 9.5 million person strong army... compared to the US's apparent 2.9 million army, you can kinda see the Hollywood producer's logic behind casting NK as the villain (actual long range transport capabilities be damned).
  10. Sketchley's Macross Gateway is on-line once more: http://sketchleystat....com/portal.php Direct links to the Translations TOCs: Macross Chronicle Other Translations Over the past few months, I haven't spent much time on translations - been too busy wading through conversions and updates to the RPG stats. I've finished the 8 Macross Chronicle pages on civilian vehicles, but I haven't made them available, as I figure out the long term plan for the translations themselves. Nevertheless, those translations are partially available, in the form of RPG stats (if you don't know the rule: green = official = Macross Chronicle translations): SDFM vehicles: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/Vehicles/generic_vehicles.php DYRL vehicles: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/Vehicles/generic_vehicles2020.php M+ vehicles: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/Vehicles/generic_vehicles2030.php M7, M7D and MF are coming soon.
  11. No, but the homepage itself has lots of goodies: 1st: title: looks suspiciously like: Macross F(Frontier): FB7 (though that might just be a typographical thing) 2nd: full title: "Macross FB7 - the spirit exiled in the galaxy - Listen to my song!"
  12. I think it's more of a mind bomb than that: FB7: Fire Bomber 7 FB7: Flash Back 7 F (B) 7: (Macross) F meets (Macross) 7 (haven't figured out what the B means in this instance).
  13. It's not quite hours away... but still, quite far. I, too, was thinking about it, until I realized that it's on the "far" side of Nara Prefecture. Bummer.
  14. Newtype Ace 2012 Vol.12 is out (man... alll these Tiger Bunny covers are confusing... I initially thought it was vol. 11! >.<) Good news: after last month's Playback in Divas fiasco, that column has been removed. Document of Macross No. 005: Design of Macross - both the evolution of the TV version and the movie redesign. - the announcement of a No. 006 is missing from it's usual spot. Does this mean that 005 is the last one? Macross Ace Plus: - Macross FF intro + interview. Apparently it bridges the gap between the two MF movies. - Macross the Musicalture: release of the cast & character designs (nice 1/2 page tall images of the 6 main cast. Is El supposed to be a virtual idol?) and a brief summary (takes place in 2062 on Macross 29 [two-nine]) w/ play-dates (Oct. 3~ 1 pg: - Macross FB7 (same as the details posted earlier herein) - The Macross Gengaten: www.macross-gengaten.com/ - Macross Carnival☆30: 8/11 @ Aeon Mall Yamatokoriyama: http://yamatokoriyama-aeonmall.com/eventnews/eventnews.jsp - Super Dimensional Amusement Park Macross Stamp Rally in Tokyo Dome City Attractions (9/28~11/4) Macross Goods Express - Wave 1/72 SDR-04 MkXII Phalanx: planned release about the end of August. ¥9,240 - Yamato 1/60 VF-19F Emerald Force: planned release September. ¥23,100 - Continuing rerelease of popular Bandai kits: 1/72 Anti-Air Destroid Defender: planned release June. ¥14,700 1/144 VF-11C Thunderbolt: on sale now. ¥945 1/72 VF-1A Super Fighter: on sale now. ¥1,470 1/100 VF-1S Variable Super Valkyrie: on sale now. ¥1,470 Manga: Macross FF: takes place on the tropical island filming of the movie within a movie about Macross Zero. Lot's of bikini fan service. Upcoming Manga collections: Macross 7th Cord: 226 p. ¥651. On sale now. Apparently there's going to be an additional 38 p conclusion to the story. Next issue: don't see an announcement for Macross the First. T.T There will be Macross FF, though.
  15. I meant in the sense of non-water based clouds. But yeah, no John Carter obviously means it's not Mars.
  16. I think things may change once we start getting colour pictures. Doesn't the lack of (white) clouds tip you off that it's not Earth?
  17. Wish I had more time these days (patience isn't so much a factor). Wish I could advance the 4 major translation projects at the same time at an equal pace (Macross Chronicle, Variable Fighter Master File, Macross the Ride, Great Mechanics.DX), but invariable it's one at the expense of the others. It also doesn't help that the VFMF are self described as being "not part of the official setting". >.< Anyhow, Iavinrac: the main reason text translations are not available (at least for MtF) is how easy it is for someone to copy/paste the translations into scans of the manga.
  18. Why is it news worthy? See Radd's post (1 tonne nuclear powered robot). In other words: it's got a 2 year warranty, wheels and a science package that's an order of magnitude greater than any rover previously put onto another planet by humans. (yes, the Viking probes were there 35 years ago. But could they move to different positions? Could they do 1/4 of the science that Curiosity can do?) It's also newsworthy because there's a 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 fail rate for ALL probes going to Mars. (The Russians have failed every time). So, adding to what Exo said: if humans haven't developed a reliable technology to land probes on the NEAREST planet, there's no point spending the money to send probes to farther planets). Also, this isn't the only probe that is out their. Have you checked up information on: http://www.nasa.gov/missions/current/index.html The other ones I'm anticipating are the Dawn probe's arrival at Ceres in about a year and the mission to Pluto (ETA 4 years). ... and isn't that the prime goal of the Curiosity mission to find life on Mars? Apparently it has a high probability of life there, especially in the areas of season melt and possibly frozen in the buried glaciers. Where else is that seasonal methane coming from?
  19. Lessee, to add to David Hingtgen's post: The Hobbit = page turner (= awesome). Despite their flaws (most unnoticeable to all but the most devout LotR fans), Peter Jackson et al have a passion for the quality material that they produced. As the same team is at work for the Hobbit, the resultant movies should also have the same passion and quality. I'm also looking forward to revisiting some of the places and characters that appeared in LotR - and this is where having the same production staff is a definite bonus.
  20. If I'm reading it correctly, it says First red text under the green banner: "GrahamParkes has already registered as a member." After the horizontal line: "Please log-in with the registration e-mail address and password. * the computer terminal (your phone?) must return to the application with the browser's back key."
  21. Not sure if it's relevant or not, but it looks like you've installed the beta version. The error code you're getting is "you don't have the latest version of the application". (proceeding comment was indeed relevant.)
  22. The vernier thrusters in the shoulders move. Neat.
  23. Yet, they are used in atmosphere.
