What about the line in my post that indicates the context? FB about M7 can only really mean 1 thing after all.

(I thought I already mentioned something to that effect in this thread... can't find it. Maybe another... oh well) That's pretty much the way it goes. Something along the lines of, "we can do this or this or this... but due to limited resources we're going to go with the super parts that were already pretty much already designed before the launch ceremony."

see here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=30860&view=findpost&p=977293 The only sucky thing is that it clarifies absolutely nothing. "DYRL designs, SDFM story", my eye!

Re MtF in NA 2012 Vol 10 Spoiler free stuff: We get the colour designs (or coloured designs) for Buritai and Ekusedoru. Lapulamizu's fleet uses the standard Zentraadi ships (thereby lending credence to the argument that the Meltran ships that appeared in DYRL are really human ships dressed up as Zentraadi ones. Something that VF-X2 supports). ... and the very next page we get Bodoruza's fortress - the DYRL version (thereby deflating any support the preceding page had about the true origin of the Meltran ships that were seen in DYRL... not to mention negating the trivia that the DYRL version of his fortress was really a dressed up Beginhill ship). Laplamizu's looks like a cross between the DYRL (face) and SDFM (body) designs with a uniform that is reminiscent of Buritai's MtF uniform. Bodoruza's face looks like a cross between the two version, too. Albeit the head and body are all DYRL. The freaky B-movie thing is that he has two disembodied head advisers (erm, auxiliary commanders) floating next to him (er, his head). They also look like they're connect to, or are part of the ship, just like the big guy - but with smaller torsos and less tentacles. Miria's design is more or less akin to the SDFM version - her uniform looks similar to the Zentraadi ones seen so far in MtF (which are basically DYRL ones) - though more feminine, and the bust area matches that of Laplamizu's. So, like yeah... what I thought would be a throw away chapter which basically functions as a clip-show to get new readers up to speed has proven to be highly interesting and further obscuring where the story is going to go.

Picked up Newtype Ace 2012 Vol. 10 today (yeah... it was like "yowzahs! 3 days early!") The MF tote bag is pretty nice. Though a bit small. It looks pretty solid. Documents of Macross No.003: SDFM: the complete explanation. Glancing at it - looks to be the next step in the development process after No.003. This time, we get Kawamori's and Mikimoto's image storeboards (and what looks like an early version of the Monster in an illo I've never seen before!) The back half is an interview with Mikimoto and Itano. No. 004 is apparently going to be: DYRL: the complete explanation. NA Vol 10: Minmei and Sheryl on da cover! (Sheryl's bust revealing top isn't a surprise, but the heart shaped bust revealing cutout on Minmei's IS! Yow'zas. Playback in Divas: Ishtar Macross News: - 30th anniversary events (1/1 VF-25. Coming soon to Nagoya. It'll appear in Osaka in the fall.) - August: Macross 30th anniversary "Za Macross" genga exhibition - October: Macross the Musical - Macross 7 Project: 1) BR release, 2) Firebomber concert, 3) "Macross FB7" (tentative) advancing - Haruhiko Mikomoto Artworks "Girl's Scenery". New publication. on sale NOW. ¥3,150 - DYRL Hybrid pack: - Games: PS1 SDFM:DYRL available for DL w/ the DL code included in the hybrid pack - Games: new PS3 game: "My Boyfriend's a Pilot 2012" Macross Goods express: - DX Chougoukin VF-171EX - VF-1A "Angel Birds" Manga: Macross the First Vol 4 release: 2012.06.09 Macross the First: Laplamis and Miria! Though... it's only 16 pages. >.< Macross Fortissimo (AKA Macross FF): just glanced at it. Not sure what to make of it. First few pages are Ranka and Sheryl in their underwear. Followed by a recap of the first arc of MF (Aruto joining SMS.) As Sheryl and Ranka are on stage singing together later in the story... really not sure where it fits into the timeline.

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening
sketchley replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hmmm... that's about the time that CG started to appear, and people could do the first idea that pops into their head... ... which is usually crap. Lack of CG and requiring people to a) make practical effects and b) work within a limited budget to make those practical effects actually required a lot more creativity and thought. In addition, the time spent on special effects drastically increased as the range of things CG could produce increased and the cost to do it decreased. Meaning that a LOT less time was spent developing the script to make the in-between scenes (you know, the scenes between the actiony show stoppers) more interesting - as in the old days, they were much longer. Anyhow, the last semi-decent science fiction movie I saw (Movie Plus. have 3 kids, no way am I getting out to the theatre, so the following isn't really all that recent) was "DejaVu" (2006).- 854 replies

When Was the Song "DYRL?" First Sung (In-World)?
sketchley replied to BEAST's topic in Movies and TV Series
The old version of the Macross Compendium is still available: http://macross.anime.net/index.html so you can see for yourself and/or provide links to the alleged sources of each bit of information. I also really doubt that a direct questions will result in any clarification. For starters, he's moved on to other projects. In addition, if a source isn't directly indicated in an entry, it's highly likely that he, or anyone else for that matter, will recollect the specific source. [to illustrate: do you remember the source of that small bit of semi-relevant information you included in that term paper you wrote 12 years ago?] -
Site's been moved (and will probably be moving again in the near future.) For the time being, there's no TOC, but the content's still available. Star Trek Into Darkness, in theaters May 17, 2013
sketchley replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks for the links to the vids about the Klingons. Glad that they cut that scene - adds absolutely nothing and would've destroyed any moment (ha! and that's without even knowing where it'd fit in!) I'm totally disliking the Klingon costumes. I can appreciate that they save money in makeup... but... if an episodic TV show can do it, so, too can the movie. (Unless if they're saving a big reveal - such as the human-looking Klingons that they briefly touched on in DS9 and STE.)- 1020 replies

Now THAT is nostalgic. Was never interested in it... but it was always on... (late at night, when there was nothing more interesting on). Never really got into Farscape (I think it conflicted with the times I was at worked), but it was interesting.

When Was the Song "DYRL?" First Sung (In-World)?
sketchley replied to BEAST's topic in Movies and TV Series
Nah... that's completely overlooking something that Kawamori said awhile back: If I tell the story as a TV series, it ends up like SDFM. If I tell it like a movie, it looks like DYRL. Later he provided further insight: none of what we have seen are the "true" Macross story. All are dramatizations of the really story. Ergo: we don't know what song the *real* Minmei (if such a person exists at all!) sang, as they're more than likely catchy pop songs created during the in-universe dramatization of the real story. Art reflecting life reflecting art or something like that. -
Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening
sketchley replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My picks: 1. 2001: it's a classic. An extremely polarizing (like/dislike) one at that. But the more realistic portrayal of space travel can be a viewing chore at time. And the open ended ending will disturb people who want neat plot resolutions with ribbons on them. Nevertheless, everyone has to watch it at least once. 2. Armageddon: purely because of how much it insults the intelligence of anyone with half a brain. Who knows anything about physics. The only movie I wanted to walk out of at the 31 minute mark (but due to the silly rule of not getting refunded after the 30 minute mark, I decided to tough it out... and was rewarded by such things as a Gatling gun on a space mining truck Retch. 3. I've been wracking my brains for 3 picks as per the OP, but I can't pick a 3rd one... >.< So, the following are the few that I've been waffling between: Soldier: mediocre martial arts movie that someone tried to bookend into a sci-fi movie. The most disappointing thing (aside from the incoherent plot) was the complete and utter lack of a space battle... that was IN the fricken ads for the movie! Talk about false advertising. >.< Battlefield Earth: I don't know what's going on with this movie. The lame, overlong Matrix ripoff action sequences are mind numbing... but the atmosphere that the aliens breath explosively reacting to radiation is... just... plain... stupid! How the hell did their planet develop... let alone life... let alone intelligent life, when any nearby star will cause it to incinerate. Tarded with a capital RE. Now, there are probably a whole bunch of worse movies than the aforementioned, but the OP indicated that any suggestions be movies that you've actually watched. A lot of those that others have mentioned are probably worse than my 3 (erm, 4), but I guess that my not having watched them is a good sign, right?- 854 replies

GM.DX 4 has some better numbers (official setting): Of course, it goes without saying that that range is within atmosphere and doesn't take into consideration the fuel load for the liquid rocket auxiliary engines, oxygen supplies, pilot endurance and batteries (if any exist that aren't fed power from the reaction engines)... That's a very interesting way to define it. MC basically states that its a 40% improvement on the VF-1, has increased fuselage volume for things like propellant and armaments, and has some problems with atmospheric manoeuvrability performance... which are all as you said: basically a VF-1 with FAST packs integrated into it.

This is a bit simpler to explain: the leaking fuel isn't the fuel used in the reaction jets, but the nose vernier thrusters. As someone has mentioned, the VF-1 has them because the F-14 had them. The VF-0's are different. They are conformal fuel tanks that are purge-able.
