ARMD 1 & 2 were specifically launched for space testing the VF-1. If Macross the First is canon, then apparently the Super Packs were already well under development before the outbreak of SWI - presumably due to the space testing on the ARMDs.

Sweet. I'm definitely interested in these kits now, having seen that fleet. Years ago I decided not to get them when spotted at Mandarake as - well, early '80s kits have really cool box art, but less than spectacular kits inside. Now, thanks to you, I know that I must make my own fleet! Question: did the stands come with the kits?

MC mechanic SDFM UN 14a sheet simply indicates that ARMD-01 and 02 were "defeated" by the Zentraadi. VFMF:VF-1 indicates that the ARMD-02 was destroyed during the final Bodoru Fleet battle (end of SWI).

? Ignorance is bliss. (contemplate this: if the VF-1 is so great, why did they start development on its successor, the VF-4, before it even entered mass production?

Luv the VF-1 pose. "No pictures!"

Agreed. It's skipped the point in DYRL where the main characters were captured by the Zentraadi... and by all appearances, they're not getting captured at the point and in the way that they do in SDFM... It's great! In addition, I really dig that they're not only highlighting the VF-1's piss-poor space performance... but that the Zentraadi have clued into it and have developed tactics that exploit that weakness! All in all, it's a great setup for the characters (watching Fokker freak out, among other things), and provides a natural development (justification) for the Super Parts. I especially liked the dorsal packs with the Destroid arms plugged into it. Completely, utterly ridiculously over the top.

Who exactly has been perpetuating that myth?
-
He was correct. He means "Newtype Ace 2012 Vol.09".

This issue is definitely worth picking up - just for the artwork on Genocyders!
-
I think Rigaado is alright. The Guraaji needs to be made somewhat larger (the VF-1 was designed to be the same size as the Zentraadi, so I'm basing the scale on that). The power suits are the ones that are oversized. the male should be reduced approximately 1/4 to 1/6, and the female one slightly less.

Cloned attack copter is a possibility. Though, it might just be divergent technological developments ending up at nearly the same place. After all, there's only so many ways to organize the fuselage of a helicopter...

Let's compare to "Alien": Motion Picture Rating: Rated R for sci-fi violence/gore and language and (from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078748/parentalguide#certification ) Apparently an "R" rating would make it more intense than the director's cut of "Alien"... maybe sci-fi violence means the type of stuff seen in "Alien" and "Aliens"? Which isn't so objectionable given all the clones of the two movies over the years? -
Macross 7 wasn't my cup of tea, but it is well worth it for Macross fans to watch it. At. Least. Once. Recommendations: 1) view it as a girl joins rock band, slice of life drama series. Not, repeat, NOT as a mecha show. 2) do not, repeat, NOT watch more than 2 episodes in a single sitting or per day. Also consider this: Macross 7 is full of originality: it dares to try new stuff and to be different. As those original things are new, there are bound to be some that you the viewer don't like. ... and if all else fails, distract yourself by paying attention to the setting as its developed and marvelling at the economy of line in the character and Valkyrie designs.

I disagree. Though the image was done by Artland's Takayama Fumihoko, I highly doubt that he would've glanced at the official art and done his own thing - especially considering that he's the director of many of the episodes of SDFM! The more I look at the image, the more I think it's a completely different attack helicopter that has only some features in common with the Commanchero. Like the AW101 Merlin and SA 330 Puma have features in common. It's only us viewers who are mistaking them for the Commanchero. (Plus, as those helicopters are attacking civilians, and as SDFM has a history of vilifying the AUA, wouldn't those choppers be part of the AUA? And as the Commanchero is a UF chopper, wouldn't that preclude the assumption that the copters in questions are the Commanchero?)

correction, 1/25 (one-twenty fifth, eyeball figure) See circle 1 here: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Statistics/Island1/Island1.htm

I don't think that's the Comanchero. It could be a derivative or predecessor, but the more I look at it, the more dissimilar it is (aside from the aforementioned differences, I see a different nose sensor, the rotor sensor is larger and under the rotor, different winglets (is that the right name for them?), different engine cowlings, and the left-and-right nose blisters have much larger openings with more greebles shoved inside (e.g.: there's no 3-barrel gun on the left side). I recommend ignoring Palladium material. Even if it is partially based on translations of the source material, without access to translations of the source material, its impossible to discern what is accurate and what is made up. I don't believe it can carry anyone other than the pilot and the gunner. In Eps 20, I think the VIP traveller is seated where the gunner usually sits. M:PM and MC both refer to the Commanchero as a combat-attack ship-borne helicopter. It is an interesting idea - in that it is possible and there are presidents for it in Macross (look at all the variants of the VF-1, Destroid MBR-04 series), etc.. If the Commanchero is based on the Hind, then it's highly likely that other variants are probable.

... and finished Technology: Over Technology 04B. This page (well... these pages) is loaded with goodies from beginning to end! Must read. Too many juicy points to summarize here.

The problem with the re-envisioning is all that empty space inside of the ships. Empty space that's pressurized (but the first ST movie also has the same problem!) I found it neat that they had water pipes and pumps in the re-envisioned engine room, but... it was too vast (for the exterior shots of the ship) and it left me wondering where the firewalls were.- 1020 replies

This isn't the right thread for these kinds of questions. The newbiew questions thread is (mod move?)... Nevertheless, the original mission was to serve as the flagship/first battleship of the Earth Unified Forces space fleet to defend Earth from aliens that they didn't know when would show up. These aliens just happened to show up on the day of the launch ceremony.

Ah, but innocent lives were killed on both sides, and both sides are fighting for the tech party (and eventually the side that was being crapped on, also wanted unification). Anyhow, was glancing at some of the history pages in MC, and a word stuck out to me: resources. It led to thoughts of something that has been overlooked in our debates in this thread (following is neither for nor against either side. Just pointing out the facts): When the ASS-1 landed, it damaged a large swath of the world (the removal of the top 1,000 m of Mt. Everest is specifically mentioned). Resources are needed to repair the damage. However, one side of the conflict required that the resources of the entire world be put into investigating the ASS-1 and developing technologies from it to defend against the aliens. After the conclusion of the Unification War, and midway through the First Interstellar War, the Unified Government is more concerned with rebuilding the damage from the Unification War (nevermind the damage from the ASS-1's arrival), and doing it's best to hide the existence of aliens, as they don't want to stir up the kind of trouble that resulted in the Unification War in the first place, all over again. Now, analyzing the above (again, following is not biased toward any one side), we know that the Unification War was pretty darn large (truly reached all corners of the globe), the damage was pretty great (years after the conclusion, it's still just starting to be sorted out), and the line between the winner and loser was pretty thin (up until the Birdman Incident, it was a stalemate. After that incident, the AUA fell apart). Alas, the producers of Macross have decided to vilify the AUA (probably because they're the enemy of M0, and the Unification War is only mentioned in passing during the introduction of SDFM). So, I don't think we'll ever get a clear image of what exactly transpired. So... to answer the question (does it affect which side I choose): no. 'cause the side I chose was for reconstruction and a fairer distribution of resources (including the technology obtained from the ASS-1).
-
I think you're confusing the Unified Forces with the Unified Government (the UF was approximately equally matched to the AUA's forces, the UG was composed of approximately 1/2 of the world's population (or 1/3, pending on how you divide things). Nevertheless, it's a good point: most of the people participating in the reconstruction & renovation of the SDF-1 were civilians (politically aligned, but not necessarily anything more than that). The same should logically hold true for other construction projects.

http://sketchleystat...Ctechnology.php Got around to (starting) to type up me notes for Technology: Over Technology 04B. Yowzers! The first page is full of juice! Not only do we get a description of how a space fold works, but also some Trek-like pseudo-science describing how a fold engine works! Top that off with a description of fold carbon / fold coal, fold faults and their effects on subjective time, AND Vajra Queen fold barriers! And that's just the front of the first page! (Apologies. You'll have to wait for the remaining pages.)

Completed: Zero UN 06A: ADR-03-MkIII Cheyenne http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/portal/Chronicles.htm#Mechanic Aside from the remote control and induced explosive rocket, not much else was unexpected. Interesting though that there were apparently different models of the Cheyenne on-screen in M0. Not that they're visibly different (no, not referring to the one with it's Gatling guns replaced with missile launchers).

That brings up a good point: how did they continue to fly at warp speeds, without the warp core? The impression I had from the CG animation, was that it was the anti-matter storage pods that were ejected, and not the warp core itself.- 1020 replies
