The SF controversy was an everyday experience." (Kawamori) "Those days were very intense. No matter what I drew, I never got an OK." (Haruhiko) "As it's said that a creator's talent dries up at 35, whatever I do afterwards is good (laughs)" (Kawamori) "In the hand-drawn era, it was often the case that a large volume of pictures were completed. Now that's absolutely impossible!" (Haruhiko) "'7''s radio-cassettes carelessly forgot to show the setting of the contents." (Haruhiko) "Minmei is cute, however she's a girl who's a nuisance to other people. I want to preserve that." (Haruhiko) "An objection came when Basara shot the missile. Persevering through something difficult makes one stronger, it does!" (Kawamori) Next Issue Line-up: Macross the First (don't see Macross FF) Back Cover: 1 pg Macross 7 BR Box Complete Fire add (with small Macross FB7 plug)
  2. Kuidaore! (Funny, you're reaction to Osaka is the same as mine about Tokyo. The only good thing there is Odaiba.)
  3. Vajra Destroy Type: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/Vajra/VajraDestroyer.php In addition to the scans (that's one ugly mo fo), there are translations from a bunch of Theatrical Macross F books! It's great that there is approximately double the content as the Stealth Cruiser Space Cruiser. Alas, there's not much in the way of actual statistical data. >.< Enjoy the pictures! I'm also working on translations and scans for the Vajra Battleship Type and Hound Type (and I keep forget about the New Heavy Vajra...). Alas, the same grumbles as the destroyer type... ... except one cool factoid: the Battleship Type is composed of multiple Vajra!
  4. Don't forget that the battroid mode of the Fz-109 was also designed by Kazutaka Miyatake (along with the gun pod, missile launchers & cockpit), and Kawamori Shouji designed the GERWALK and fighter modes.
  5. Stealth Cruiser Space Cruiser: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/ShipsUG-Escort/SpaceCruiser.php ... wish there was a better name for this ship (like an actual class name), ah well... (Before anyone says, "It's a ship so nice, they named it twice", the first "Stealth Cruiser" is generally written in katakana (giving the impression that that is the actual or common name of this type of ship), and the second "Space Cruiser" is generally written in kanji (giving the impression that that is the function or description of this type of ship). Alas, there really isn't that much information on the ship (let alone pictures! No nice, uber detailed ones like the other escort ships in MF!). All there is on the ship is green, in the background section of the stats. >.<
  6. Macross M3: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/Macross_M3
  7. Arugenikusu (Algenicus) Space Cruiser image: http://sketchleystat...icusCruiser.php I'm quite impressed by the results, as I not only got a half decent image out of a 50% transparent background image, I also managed to play with the tones, etc. to get a matching purple hue out of the blue that the recovered image was (it must've been flying really quickly toward the viewer). Attaching the original for comparison. Stealth Cruiser (images) coming soon!
  8. It's fun, but nothing beats Google's grand champion: PACMAN http://www.google.com/doodles/30th-anniversary-of-pac-man
  9. Sadly, the This is Animation series of books have gone out of vogue (at least for Macross properties). Even a Newtype 100% Collection would be nice, but alas... young kids these days, they just don't care as much about books with B&W mecha lineart... Given that we already got a section on that in the 2nd VF-1 book, I'm not expecting too much on that. GA, give me a book on the VF-5000 already, thank you!
  10. Yay! Double yay as it's got the SV-51 to beef things up (hopefully some more info on the SV-52, too). Now just to find a local store that carries it [or skip the drama and order online; decisions, decisions].
  11. The other option is "Animation Collection", but then that begs the question why didn't they title it "アニメ集"? It's really an odd title, as the stills in it are really not in-betweens, but more akin to key frames... "Douga Collection" works for me, as it saves everyone the hassle of figuring out the optimum translation.
  12. Wasn't that filmed almost completely on sets in the USA? I remember hearing about the filming of "Memoirs of a Geisha" in Fushimi-Inari Taisha in the Japan Times. [Which is a lot more than can be said about the this new Hugh Jackman movie.] Question: did the filming of "The Last Samurai" make the news?
  13. Technically it's: "Not part of the official setting". Japanese sources tend not to use canon. Religious connotations?
  14. It's like they're trying to copy Gundam or something... ... M0 did kinda provide a backstory for the test craft in combat thing: test craft is semi-mass produced to counter the AUA's variable fighter that was just starting to be mass-produced and then rushed into combat while still undergoing testing (the one thing that M0 didn't do too well was highlight that ongoing testing...)
  15. Nah, I'm waffling. PS3 or a pistol grip power drill? Well... technically procrastinating over the waffling.
  16. Don't have a BD player to play 'em on.
  17. 動画集: Moving Picture Collection Don't know why everyone mistakenly refers to them as Sketchbooks...
  18. What does Bandai have to do with Macross? They're the distributor. Big West is the owner, and they'd be the ones squaring off in any legal battles. All the legal stuff there is to know on the issue (quoted in the first post): http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35826&st=0
  19. I've always been less than impressed with Diamond's services. Damn you Marvel for f#cking over the industry in the late 90's and ruining Capital City, the superior distributor! There's also print-on-demand services, but the end cost for the user is quite pricey. Not to mention mailing costs. On-line distribution, though limited, is still the best option to reach the title's market. Especially as cwmodels probably doesn't have the money nor space to tie up with the boxes of extra copies that result from print run numbers that give a reasonable print-cost per item (had a friend who did the self-published comic route about a decade and a half ago. She had big boxes in her garage for years. Not sure she ever managed to sell off the excess copies in the end.) cwmodels: have you thought about sponsors/advertising? Aside from the big and obvious insert pages, there's also the more sneaky product placement route (like Tiger Bunny's sponsor logos actually on their superhero uniforms). I remember hearing somewhere that the profits for comics actually comes from the advertisers, not the sales... but that may be more applicable to the majors, who have large print runs and sell at low prices due to retail markup (if memory serves, the company is getting only 1/4 or 1/3 of the cover price, and even then, they still have to pay the printer.)
  20. Sweet! Gotta get the recorder set up for the MF movies. Here's the listing: http://www.animax.co...3%82%B9&x=0&y=0 Showtimes (AKA Sunday Night @ 7): 2012.10.07 19:00~: DYRL 2012.10.14 19:00~20:30: MII Eps #1~3 2012.10.21 19:00~20:30: MII Eps #4~6 2012.10.28 19:00~: M+ Movie Edition We'll have to wait until closer to the end of the month (September) to see the November schedule.
  21. Careful. Careful. The last time a moderator said no politics and someone continued a political discussion, that someone got banned.
  22. (^.^) ;;;ア、ありがとう。日本に住んでる外国人だけやな。m(_._)m My university major was about East and Southeast Asia, and there's no way to study the history without also studying Buddhism. And after coming to Japan, it's been fun to visit temples and shrines and get the occasional "hey, I studied/read about this place!" or "so, this is where Kawamori san got the idea for Basara/Vajra... so that's what he really meant!" moments - which probably happens a lot more in Kansai than Kanto... Not to mention that Buddhism has some interesting aspects to it (the self-mummified Bodhisattva is probably the most eyebrow raising). Nevertheless, katakana is still my weak point... apologies to the MW members for any confusions on the card + cookie wafer thing.
  23. Alrighty... haven't been able to find the time to work on any more translations (kids on summer vacation, 35+℃, almost flooding of the house, et al), but I have been able to partially wrap my head around the "1 ship is really 5 ships" Macross Quarter concept. So, check out the scans! (From books about "Theatrical Macross F ~The False Princess~". Some of them are really nice A5 sized images. Worth picking up.) Macross Quarter: http://sketchleystat...uarterclass.php ARMD-R Gunship*: http://sketchleystat...rier/ARMD-R.php ARMD-L Carrier*: http://sketchleystat...rier/ARMD-L.php BASTER-L/Baster-R**: http://sketchleystat...BASTERclass.php * Don't have a clear idea of the area where the Macross Quarter grabs/connects to these ships looks like, so they've been airbrushed into deep shadow. I imagine there's some kind of pistol or rifle grip along with the usual hard-dock connections. ** Alas that was the best image I could find of the ship, that wasn't folded over and attached to the back of the Macross Quarter. Quite elusive the beasty be. Arrrr... (Regarding the text: Disclaimer: Green is good. Mileage may vary as they're my best guess. Yes, they're RPG stats.) Oh... almost forgot... scans of the MF versions of the following ships: Guantánamo class: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/ShipsUG-Carrier/GuantanamoStealthSpaceCarrier.php Uraga class: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/ShipsUG-Carrier/UragaStealthEscortCarrier.php Northampton class: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/ShipsUG-Escort/NorthamptonStealthFrigate.php I've also got scans of the Stealth Cruiser (TV series), and the Vajra Destroyer, Battleship, New Heavy Vajra (all from the 2nd movie) and Hound Vajra (1st movie) waiting in the wings.
  24. Goddamn! Sometimes I really hate katakana. ウエハース (uehaasu) looks nothing like wafer... not to mention that the blurb also has "card" right after the price. >.< I think it was only a conversion commissioned by the magazine for this special feature... Anyhow, if anyone is looking for picts: http://hobby.dengeki.com/hobby/# 4th one down (though any of the picts will work as they open the same viewer.) First two pages of the main article w/ timeline.
