More specifically it was the fold waves produced by her singing due to her symbioses with the fold bacterium (Sheryl also emitted fold waves due to fold bacterium, but her situation has consistently been described as a terminal infection.) Apparently yes. I believe one of the thematic goals of that sequence was to be a mirror of the Zentraadi's invasion of Earth in SDFM. I believe it was created for the series. Now by this, I mean they could've used some of the original background paintings from M+; definitely not in the sense of adding to an existing sequence.

Does anyone build Hasegawa Valkyries anymore??
sketchley replied to erikos0311's topic in The Workshop!
I have an in-process VF-1 which has been gathering dust in the closet for the past 5 years... it's sad, because I've built a bunch of Gundam kits over the preceding year and just don't really make the time for the gluing and (especially) painting required. I've promised myself to get back to it after I finish the Yamato UN Fleet set that I picked up a few months ago (doesn't "need" painting, but it's a glue kit). -
That's the VF-19 specification that Basara's VF-19 Kai Fire Valkyrie was based off of. If memory serves, that info comes from the VFMF:VF-19 book, and most of us MWers agreed a few years back that that's part of Macross's extended universe... Alas, it's only a rough (part of a rough at that). Looks like it's based on the YF-24 family (VF-25, 27, 29)... all the article says is something along the lines of telling the reader tp look forward to info on it at a later time...

Figure Ou #177 has a cover story on Macross - mostly the most recent toys. http://www.monoshop.co.jp/shop/products/detail.php?product_id=3088 While looking through it (didn't pick it up), I comparatively lengthy article on the YF-29, especially the most recent one coming out the pipe, as well as the upcoming VF-4.

Episode 3's biggest problem was it's pacing. Who's idea was it to put the climax at the start of the film? Episode 2 was much better paced - though the "romantic" dialogue in the middle is... well, I've seen it enough that it's cringe inducing. Hopefully the producer (Kathlen Kennedy, was it?) will use her decades of experience in romantic dialogue, and we'll end up with a Star Wars film like Empire Strikes Back - real people in unreal situations (not the unreal people in unreal situations, if you're wondering...)

I love how the "clear" robot image they provide looks different from the one in the image used in the test. Sure, it's only greebles, but even a 2 year old can tell that they're NOT THE SAME.

Oh, man, you're missing out. Aside from such things as the weekly broadcasts of Macross on Animax, you could also catch up on the classics. Like Gatcha Man! "誰だ!誰だ!誰だ!ガっ茶マン!" Anyhow, back to EVA - had an interesting conversation with a class of grade 12 students yesterday. They are all aware of EVA, especially the upcoming movie, but apparently, had only the vaguest idea of the events of the original series, let alone how old it is. Actually overheard a few Ss saying in hushed voices "that was before I was born." Sadly, they were completely blown away when told that there's a flesh and blood creature inside of EVA... makes me wonder what they were watching; doesn't the flesh and blood interior of the EVA make an appearance in the rebuild movies?!?

I'm more into open ended things. TV series ending of "EVA", the ending of "2001", no explanation why Peter Parker lost his powers in "Spiderman 2"*, things like that. * Do you have cable? They've been marathoning all 3 movies on Movie Plus this past week.

It may be better to consider them to be the yin and yang of the exact same event. The TV episodes 25 and 26 are a positive conclusion to the character stories, whereas the movie episodes 25 and 26 are a nihilistic conclusion of the narrative story. It might also be helpful to keep in mind when watching the movie ending that they come from a director's who's pissed off at the obsessed fans, because they didn't understand the ending of the show and sent death threats among their pleas to get a narrative conclusion! One of which, if memory serves, actually appears in the movie.!! :fear:

Gamlin's only ever depicted in a suit, and during combat, he's usually behind the scenes or on the sidelines. His title is director, and I don't believe he's ever referred to by a military rank in the serial; which implies that he's no longer a soldier. But I'm tempted to say that he's a civilian contractor working for the military, or at least the government, of Macross 7. He's the director of the reborn Sound Force. In his later appearances, he's, for lack of a better term, the controller of Sound Force (in the sense of command and control). He and Max have a good working relationship in the series, and they are in direct communication with each other numerous times during the battles. I hope this helps. He's a secondary character in the serial, and when he does appear, it's more for plot development than character development (aside from the one scene where he argues with Basara to get him to coach the heroines. Alas, his role in the scene is mostly for setting up Basara's character arc.)

In short: kinda yes. It's a strike pack that can be used both inside of, and outside of an atmosphere. Note: the picture you've linked to is the Outer Space specification (the base atmospheric specification plus a bunch of additional fuel tanks). I haven't gotten around to translating the stuff on the VF-25 Tornado Pack... but there's info and some stats here: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/OTMiscBooks/OfficialCompleteBookMFWingsOfGoodbye.php#77 http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/OTMiscBooks/MFFalseDivaRomanAlbum.php#62

... and things get even more complicated from Macross the First. (how to say this without spoiling things...) Global's known Misa since she was 12, if not earlier (if the word of god is correct, it adds a creepy dimension), and Misa knows that Global isn't single. Despite the two talking intimately (defined as friendly coworker/teasing banter about details of their private lives), Misa's thoughts are occupied with Riber.

Newtype Ace 2012 Vol.15 Cover: Macross is front and center! (Sheryl and Mylene, to be specific, with Misa off in the corner.) Back cover: is a 1 page ad for the M7 BD box set. However, they've slapped the NA logo on it, and it looks like an alternate cover! Cool. The "alternative" cover has Basara and Ranka. Appendix: Document of Macross: No.006 "Design of the Valkyrie" Full of VF-1 line art. If you don't have any of the Macross art/animation books, this is well worth picking up. Even if you don't, there are a few images in here that I haven't seen before in my extensive collection (a Kawamori penned battroid mode with main wings stretching below the knees, and tails almost as high as the head lasers, and a VF-1D that shows the thought process before they settled on the infamous 102 (101, 105, 117, and 121 were apparently suggested). Macross Content: Fold-out poster/ad: FB7 Not quite a poster, but also not quite an ad... Macross Ace Plus (column): "Macross 7" Story: 1 pg; basically an ad for the M7 BD box set. (in universe intro blurb, real world blurb on it's reelease and BD rerelease. Basic intros of Basara, Mylene, Fire Bomber, and the Protodevilun.) 3/4 pg ad: "Macross 30 ~the singing voice(s) that connects the galaxy~" We've got a title for the game. Ad includes picts (we've seen before on the net). Series/mecha/characters featured: SDFM, Hikaru, VF-1S Strike Valkyrie; M0, Shin, VF-0A Ghost Booster; M+, Isamu, YF-19 Fast Pack; M7, Basara, VF-19 Kai; MF, Aruto, VF-25 Super Pack. Goods News (bottom 1/4 page): Hasegawa 1/72 VF-11B Super Thunderbolt "Macross Plus" (with additional new molds) Planned Release: Nov 11. ¥3,750 Yamata 1/60 fully transformable VF-19P Planet Zola Patrol Corps Specification Planned release: Dec. ¥23,100 Macross FF is in the midst of taking applications for clothes! Just skim reading it, but apparently the manga-ka for Macross FF is asking for submissions for costumes for the major characters that appear in the manga. Thoughts: the Macross 30th anniversary boom appearth to be over. Macross news is quite thin... Manga: Macross the First ... is back! It starts with a treat: painted, full colour character designs for the command staff (Misa Hayase, Global, Claudia, Vanessa, Shammy, Kim, Takashi Hayase, Jeena Bartlow) The story... Macross FF #.3 first chapter Next on my must read list. Aruto's father and Brera appear.

2nded. Film treatments are nothing like the final product. True, they provide a road map, but the chances are incredibly high that the treatments will be revised and even if greenlit, the script will invariably go through a couple of rewrites, by different writers. Too early.

It's not exactly new... for the video games. We had a Super VF-1 in VF-X2 after all. The VF-25 isn't indicated as being able to fly in an atmosphere with Super Packs (the exception is, as D.D. Ivanov pointed out, the Tornado Pack). That said, there are some FAST Packs and Super Packs that are able to be used in both space and atmosphere. The VF-11, VF-17, VF-19, VF-27, VF-5000 and VA-3M do. And that's off the top of the head without including variants that have appeared in such places as the games! Nevertheless, if you strap enough thrust onto a brick, you could make it fly. The same holds true for the Super Parts that aren't indicated as being able to fly in an atmosphere. So, it's probably best to keep in mind that the prime job of the Super Parts is to provide the additional fuel that VFs need for a reasonable mission length in space.

Heh, this echoes the jury foreman's comments in that Apple vs. Samsung case. Different (software) approaches that netted similar end-user experiences.

It's a throwaway design for something that is the same size as a Valkyrie (the fold booster provides a handy size reference). Personally, I've considered it some kind of non-transformable recon craft.

It may just be possible that mankind has advanced in ways different from the Protoculture (like the Polynesians have an entirely different concept of navigation than the rest of mankind, which enabled their great voyages across the Pacific). In Macross, the Protoculture have developed bio-mechanical technologies. Something that has been stressed every since the DYRL remake of the Zentraadi. Mankind has developed mechanical technologies. There are numerous points of overlap, but it is quite clear that the Protoculture have bio-mechanical technologies that are light years ahead of mankind's (and that's despite mankind acquiring such things as Zentraadi cloning facilities to reverse engineer). Why shouldn't the inverse to hold true for mankind? Even in terms of mechanical technologies, there are areas where the Protoculture's tech clearly exceeds mankind's (mankind has so far been unable to synthesize fold quartz, yet the Protoculture were able to.) And that's not even taking into consideration an earlier point I made about the Protoculture's having deified the Vajra, which implies that they stopped developing or exploring certain technologies for religious reasons. EDIT: clarified the points.

Can't find another place to put this...: picked up the "Neon Genesis Evangelion Volume 13 Calling Premium Edition" today. Who'd have thought, a boxed set for a manga collection? Goodies that come with the manga collection (not sure how different the "premium edition" is compared to the regular addition, beyond pasting "premium edition" in a few places): - 3D Rei & Asuka image - 6 postcards of paintings of Eva characters by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (I don't follow his work much, so I can't really say if they've been printed elsewhere beforehand. But they do give the impression that they haven't.) - "Original Artworks": 50 pg book collecting a selection of the splash pages from Chapter 6 to Chapter 90. As such, not much of it is new, but it's nice to have it in one handy place. Linky (w/ preview of the postcards): http://www.evastore.jp/pc/article/B5000913.html Linky (w/ description): http://www.animate.co.jp/recommend/book/120502eva_13/

I've read a couple of articles (BBC news, etc.) that make the point that he's giving it up exactly because of that. I don't blame him, given some of the comments in this thread (e.g.: how does one's body weight have anything to do with movies/comics/novels/video games?).
