See that's where my concept works great. You issue an RFP for the various platforms with the stipulation that they all use the same core hardware: Engines, Avionics, Radars (with a larger or smaller antennae array) etc... Now you have a fighting force that can use all the same weapons, and support hardware for the expensive bits. Carrier for instance only need to carry one kind of engine onboard, plus or minus afterburners, and there is no question of weapons cross-compatibility. The Air Force actually used this same argument back in the late 70s for the F-15, F-16, B-1 force. They all used the same engines, radars based on the same core architecture, and Link 16 for connectivity, but they were all built by different contractors.

Bay's Argument was always flawed, that video and the new Bumblebee move proves that. Tying TF into human history, sorry, no thanks. I would rather see see all thing Bayformers go away. As fir Powerglide's transformation, you have a lot of mass coming out of nowhere there, the A-10 is simply too "skinny" to fit all those bits. You'd have to double the fuselage width in order to make it work. That being said, it is probably the best/most "realistic" Powerglide transformation I've ever seen.

I have said for years that the JSF/F-35 never should have been a production aircraft. It should have remained a technology testbed and demonstrator from which multiple aircraft could be designed and built using a common logistics footprint. The most expensive parts of any combat aircraft are the internal systems, structures are relatively cheap by comparison, but if you have multiple fighter/attack platforms using the same engines, radars, sensor suites Flight Control Computers (albeit with tweaked software) and weapons interfaces, then you have made massive savings. Imagine in you will: F-35: Air Force, single engine similar to the primary POS we have out there (Lockheed) F/A-32: Refined Naval version of the X-32 as a Hornet/A-7 replacement (Boeing) AV-33: brand new strike craft for the marines/Royal Navy (BAE/Boeing) F-34: twin engine naval interceptor based on the F-23 Christmas Fighter proposal (North-Grumm) A-36: twin engine (non-afterburning) A-10 replacement, with possible naval variant (Contractor TBD) F-37: twin engine Gen5.5 Air Force Interceptor/Forward Combat Drone Controller (Lockheed) B-21: four engine (non-afterburning) stealth bomber (North-Grumm) All of them share the same basic engines and radars with some having large phased array antennae as well largely same internal systems, down to the actuators. Supply train problems all but solved and you have seven different platforms farmed out across multiple contractors, all turning out purpose built aircraft.

[Rumor] Hasbro Canceling G.I. Joe toyline?
Knight26 replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The 80s GI Joe comics were, and still are, awesome. The rebooted comics I could never really get behind, and I was OK with the IDW continuation but just haven't had a chance to read in a while. While I am sad to see the toyline finally utter its last gasps, it was inevitable with the current political climate. Though if my dream of Kelly-Mattis 2020 ticket comes true then GI Joe could have a huge resurgence. -
Looks like fun, I will see it

Enjoying the new season so far, and the fact they are preserving the timeline more than anything else. It is a nice change for Dr Who. Curious who/what/whether there will be a big bad this season.

IamChris is not Chris Schell. Schell sold hid VGF-14 design to the artist for the new ROBOTECH comic series not knowing it would be used that way. We discussed this last year in the comic thread.

My experience with Canadian aviation is nothing but headaches dealing with TCCA, most disorganized CAA I've ever had to deal with. Well second most, Italy was a nightmare, even my EASA contacts said so.

The man himself is back, how is the production process going? Any prototypes to show off?

Non-sensical armor design, absurd sword design, character artwork all leaves room for improvement. Probably going to be a hard pass unless reviews are good.

Looks optimized for Battroid, not terrible looking, but the himetals are far better.

They would not be able to show the dusting, basically end the scene with him losing contact with the others. Then show them dust at the end of IW. -
That is nice, is it the model on Thingiverse, or did you design your own?

We used to have a thread with all the various VFs at the time in fighter and battroid modes for folks to do color schemes on, and the images were all high detail.

Latest issue is out, and they are back to the fan design valkyrie. God this comic is bad. I had to bleach my eye with Macross the First to save myself.

First impressions based on the trailer: Story, eh, we'll see. New ships designs appear to be trending back towards updated TOS (crashed Reliant type and D7 holo) New young Spock, I'm oddly ok with, based on the voice, face is not quite Nimoy-esque enough, but that will be hard to find and have them still have the acting ability. Original "The Cage" #1, nice, I approve. Will give it a chance as it appears that it might be trying to force the timeline back towards TOS, at least visually.

The computer and electronics super geek thread

SO I am beginning to source parts for my new PC build, mostly used or refurbed, and I have a contact who can get me lots of GTX480s (3-4 per lot) I know these are SLI cards. And I can get them cheap. So, is it worth it to grab one of these lots and SLI two (or more) cards together, or should I shell out for a GTX10xxTi card? -
