  1. I actually think that Koots transformation is not that bad. FT messed up by molding in a useless ridge that prevents the side parts to rotate for enough clearance. There are some tutorials that show how to mod Koot to provide a less troublesome transformation.
  2. I read somewhere that it would be an intriguing story if the Boba Fett movie is about a salvager who finds the armor on Tatooine and as soon as he puts it on is in trouble because people mistake him for Boba Fett. I like that concept because you can keep his backstory and past deeds a mystery.
  3. So I had the time to check out FTs Lupus and Rouge. They are absolutely a disappointment with limited articulation, questionable engineering decisions and a general laziness on FansToys part. I think FT is banking on people just pulling out the toys in robot mode, put them in a slightly dynamic/neutral pose and leave them as is since this seems to be the MO of many Masterpiece collectors. In that regard both toys function pretty well but it is not what I want from my transforming robots. Besides the presence there are other positive things like good paint and materials (love the green plastic/paint on Lupus) and some nifty engineering like how the hind legs on Lupus transform to become the robot feet. Of course here the laziness comes into play again since the feed do not really work since they have limited range of movement in both modes and provides an uneven stand since the hind legs don't fold in all the way. At the moment my FT hype curve is on a down swing from "best thing since sliced bread" to "worst transforming robots in the market". Gonna be exciting to see how this will turn out with the next few releases.
  4. Thanks. I would die for a Jim Lee X-Men line, even if I made a promise to myself not to collect anymore new toy lines.
  5. Preorder for the Astraea add-on set up at: NY: https://www.nippon-yasan.com/figures/25114-metal-build-avalanche-dash-op-set-for-gundam-astraea-type-f-limited-edition.html AE: http://www.anime-export.com/product/40073
  6. Saw this over at TFW2005. Apparently there is a add-on set planned for the Astraea comming: Hopefully there will a blue sword as a standalone item for the regular Avalanche Exia like Bandai did with the GN Sword Blaster II for the Seven Swords.
  7. I think I will go for Red Alert with BadCubes offering. I don't have the TT Alert so for me it is nice two have two different molds for a character that was just a repaint of another one. This is one thing I really enjoyed having the official MP Grapple and MMCs Backdraft. Regarding Downbeat I think the big detriment of the toy is that MakeToys opted for not painting the feet, shins and weapons silver. This really brings the toy down a notch. It is a double shame because they painted the pieces on their TFCon release of Stepper.. I haven't had a chance to check out my FT Rouge but I can someone tell if it would have been possible to have an extending ball-joint for the waist to allow for a rotation there? FT is really frustrating. I like some releases that much that I'm in the mood of preordering all their releases. Than there are toys like Tesla, Forager and Rouge that make me think I don't want any more of their releases.
  8. Personally I like the DX9 Legends more than the Iron Factory ones. Reason being that I like transforming toys because of the engineering involved. The DX9 ones provide a more innovative and in depth transformation compared to the Iron Factory Legends. For example the IF Seeker mold is pretty similar to the Hasbro Legend version with the legs collapsing and the arms tucking to the side. The DX9 is much more innovative in comparison with the arms tucked away along the spine of the plane. I also love the spin DX9 gave to their legends Dinobots. One main criticism of FTs Grinder was that he is basically a re-shelled MP Grimlock whereas the DX9 Dinobots are all a derivation on how the Dinobots should transform but still end up looking similar to them in both modes.
  9. That looks surprisingly good. Awesome job! If only the base toy was that good. Is it still a perfect transformation toy?
  10. I like it quite a bit. Not a fan of the glossy finish on the white armor parts. The Framr suits stand out among the other Metal Builds I have. Also be prepared that the head fin will pop out a lot. I prefer the way the sword sheath is on the PG Red Frame with a dedicated piece on the waist. On the MB it just pegs into the thigh. I also like the translucent green pieces on the PG kit more. Overall I‘m happy with my purchase and hope they release a Blue Frame that is not a straight repaint of the Red Frame (like the Second Revise version). From the three versions releasen so far I like the Gold Frame the most (which surprises me the most). His play value is just so high and the asymmetric design really speaks to me even if I‘m usually not a fan of gold. I‘m still discussing if I need the Powered add-on set. It looks super goofy to me but I’m somewhat of a completist.
  11. I'm not a big fan of Detolfs but you can get them fairly cheap compared to other solutions. If you have access to store liquidations you could snag a few professional display cabinets if you are lucky. I got some of my cabinets from a optician and they are fairly nice.
  12. The Metal Build Astraea is due this month and I'm excited. Especially since I already payed for it. Red Gundam hype!

    Bandai DX VF-31

Got another TWE item today from NY this time with the brown shipper box included. It is still a mystery why my VF-31A didn't had one.
  14. Got billed by HLJ for the PF SDF-1.
  15. From the M3 video game there is the VF-14, VF-3000 and VF-5000: http://www.macross2.net/m3/macrossga/macrossga-index.html
  16. Excellent pictures @anime52k8. Quick question. Does the Wing Zero Custom come with an stand adapter to display the birg/weapon platform on the display stand? Similar to the stand add-on for the Red Frame Flight Unit.
  17. As everything in existence if used properly ball-joints are a valuable addition to a toy designers tool box. Properly designed and tolerated ball-joints yay. Loose swivels or large spaced ratchets nay! Personally I prefer hard ratchet joints with many clicks but I can see that there are areas where those are not feasible to use. Love the ratcheted thigh swivels on MP-09 Rodimus (one of the few things to like on that toy).
  18. I need to recreate that picture once I build the UCS Millennium Falcon: I also need LEGO make me a new X-Wing that is in scale with the Y-Wing and A-Wing I have.
  19. Really? Seems like I need to watch Macross 7 again.
  20. Well NY has usually lower prices on the item but higher prices on the shipping compared to HLJ. Overall ordering from NY is cheaper compared to HLJ but you need to evaluate that on an individual basis. One thing where HLJ stands out is their customer support. NY customer support is pretty abysmal whereas HLJ is responsive, cover shipping fees for return shipments if an item has a defect and offer replacement items or a discount as store credit if an item is damaged out of the box. HLJ tent to pack the items with less padding which means sometimes you get a damaged box which HLJ will ignore if the item inside is still fine. So if you are a MISB collector NY usually packs the items in a layer of bubble-wrap and their shipping boxes have less free space than the HLJ ones do. Since you are based in the States this doesn't apply to you but NY will declare a lower value on the shipping documents which means that their packages tend to slip through customs without additional sale tax and custom fees applied. On the other hand the declared value is important for the package insurance so if an item from NY gets lost you're out of luck. So I would say if you want pay the lowest amount go with NY if you like the peace of mind that a good customer support offers go with HLJ. Additionally NY offers Tamashii Webshop exclusives such as the DX Chogokin add-packs for the Frontier and Delta Valkyries. HLJ won't carry those items. Personally I went with HLJ for the PE SDF-1 because they offer me a customer services that doesn't make me worried about a lost package or a damaged unit for such a high priced item.
  21. Noooooo don't quote my spelling mistakes!
  22. I've read somewhere that the new UCS Y-Wing is more Minifig scale than the Rogue One one released two years ago. Can anyone in this thread confirm? I'm probably fine with the Rogue One Y-Wing since I think it looks better compared with the other regular Star Wars sets that are close to Minifig scale. Especially the UCS Falcon and Slave-1.
