The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Scyla replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Those are valid points skullmilitia. I have to say I don't have that much experience with their releases as a whole because it would be unfeasible for me to buy that many products from Hasbro because only an tiny fraction is available to me from retail. However I really like some of the toys I got from the last waves namely from their prime line. I admit they are mostly Japanese releases because Hasbro is unwilling to produce the variants I collect. However I can see the point you are making.- 9275 replies

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
Scyla replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I agree. Especially since I believe that Hasbro has nothing to do with the collector oriented toy lines Takara is doing except distributing them in the states (with a new color scheme). I'm no Transformers nut so this might not be accurate. However some of the designs are pretty cool (I really like the AoE Dino Knights designs, especially the colors) if they are not driven by such stupid design goals like kids should actually enjoy playing with our products. I really enjoyed some of the Human Alliance toys as well. I also play with my retail Transformers much more than I do with my Collector oriented stuff (Transformers + Valkyries) because I don't need to fear breakage handling them.- 9275 replies

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
Scyla replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The way I understand it is that you have a problem if the sender declares a lower value on the box. If the package is missing you will get only the value that was listed on it nothing more. So if you are shipping a $200 Valkyrie and the sender declares only a $10 value the insurance will only cover the $10. I might be wrong though. -

I like the transformations of the newer Transformers more than my Valkyries. The reason is that Valkyries where designed with the goal in mind that some parts of the Fighter- are designated parts in Battroid-Mode. All Valkyries have the engines as legs and so on. On Transformers they shift from one mode to the next without designers thinking about how that could happen. Sure there are parts on the robot that belongs to the alt mode. You get some pretty good transformations out of that if designers can figure out a way. Like RotF Leader Class Prime, or the First Editions Transformers from Prime. On the other hand you get pretty shitty transformations like First Edition AoE Prime and so on. The Valkyries have all good transformations but sometimes they are pretty lazy. Like the backpack on the YF-29 or the YF-30. They just hang there and do nothing because Kawamori. I think the CGI Valkyries from Frontier made it worse because it is clear that they have to transform mostly without mass shifting. The pre Frontier area Valkyries are much nicer like the Yamato ones from M7/Plus. So I the 30th Anniversary VF-1J. I'm tempted to buy one because I like the precise paint-jobs form Yamcadia. They are so much nicer than the ones form the Masterpiece Transformers. (WHY ARE YOU SO TERRIBLE MP-12 LAMBOR WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY??? *screams in anger*)

You lost what exactly? The blue guard with the black stripe that sits on the outside of the hand?

...and not miscalculated availability as it seems to be the case with the YF-29 Ozma Custom. But the basic condition of this specific Valkyrie indicate more availability after release date in my opinion.

I just looked at some pictures from the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey and they looked spectacular. As cool as the systems around CGI are (like ray-tracers and such thinks) something about models is just as intriguing as images done in a computer. And I was amazed to see physical sets in real locations with what seems to be animatronics so I thought maybe we see some actual spaceship models in the new movies. As I tried to elaborate that GCI comes with its own sets of problems. Like say in Transformers:AoE where Optimus Prime shifts from truck cap to robot with almost no resemblances of the truck left on his body. I also think that physical costumes have a more important role as physical sets because the body language is different. If yous suppose to wear a heavy mech suit your movements will be different than when you only acting as if you would wear a mech suit I'd imagine. So back to Star Wars. What is the prop the director attached the note about leaking images on? [edit1:] Ah now I see it it is the table where they played holographic chess on in Episode IV. [edit:2] Only 99 posts left until I dine in hell.... ...with pineapples.

Thanks. Funny I never imagined the characters (Grimlock/Starscream) as silver/metallic when I saw them in the comics/show. They always where gray-colored to me. I wonder if I should track down high definitions of Scoria to see what FT is doing with their plastic. I have the feeling I rather don't because I will be utterly disappointed. I don't want to be derailing this thread any further but I was shocked how bad the plastic looked on that Kre-O set. I'm even more interested in buying a Kre-O set now so I can actually handle some of the bricks and compare them to other stuff.- 17164 replies

I just looked at images of the Grimlock unleashed Kre-o set over at TFW (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/kre-o-42/kre-o-transformers-grimlock-unleashed-photo-shoot-180218/). I don't get it why Habro and Takara are unable to cast good looking gray plastic. Even Masterpiece figures like Grimlock and Starscream have those curls inside the gray plastic. Can someone who understands the molding process explain how this happens. I mean it could be on purpose but I doubt it. Oh well luckily Lego seems to be able to mold good looking gray colored bricks. *glances at my Lego Star Wars toys*- 17164 replies

I don't get why people like LED lighting. The batteries take away space inside the toy. They can leak out damaging the toy and you get ugly switches all over the toy. Also LEDs never look as good as painted detail when they are not covered by some kind of housing/reflector. For example I like the TF Quakewave but his eye looks dull and not very collector toy like with the yellow LED just sticking out of his head. The other toys I bought that have lights I also don't like (Leo Dux, MP-01B Convoy and MP-08 Grimlock). Leo Dux is also my favorite out of the bunch because you almost can't tell that there is a LED + switch in the Feral Rex head. Also I can't imagine when to turn the lights on. I guess I am the odd man out.

Well I ordered it 2012 I guess so no change in returning it. I just took it out of its display to play with it and remembered how full of qc-issues it is. Maybe I will check the box plus I have the YF-29 Ozma now and that one looks nice and the joints are tight. I just hat to let of some steam after handling the toy.

This can only mean we get a YF-25 Parzival (the green one) down the line.... ..and thus before the VF-25S reissue....
-
I just played with my YF-29 for a bit to get prepared for transforming the YF-29 Ozma Custom and something is just not right with this toy. Out of the box it hat like super loose joints everywhere a super messy paint job on some of the detail and chipped of paint everywhere. I mean how it is possible to get a paint chip on the top of the metal shoulder block? While handling the toy I noticed that it can't hold a good a-stance in Gerwalk-Mode because the legs will do the split due to a very loose thigh swivel. I just have the feeling that NY had sold me a second hand copy that was returned because of a sub par condition out of the box. Frustrating.

Does anyone know if filming in front of a greenscreen has any negative influence on the acting? I'd imagine that performing in a fully built set allows the actor to embrace the role he is playing much more. Regarding my previous comment. I don't think that CGI is bad or something but as model-kit builder I like the idea building something out of actual stuff. I know making sets and props and such things costs more than render them with software. On the other hands CGI is still expensive and I guess this is the reason the Transformers are not really in the live-action Transformers movies. It is just that expensive to render the designs so they hat do cut the Transformers part down and replace it with.... other things. Or why many scenes are shot in the night because they can render a less deep field of view like in Pacific Rim. I'm no expert in such things so if I wrong please don't be offended and explain to me why I'm wrong because I like to learn new things.

As much as I like the VF-25 design (and the Frontier mech designs in general). I hope the mech designers do not continue the Frontier design language. I would love to see a new kind of Valkyrie with a new design ideas in the new show and as collector toy.
-
Or when Bandai used a batch of bad plastic again and the toy crumble in our hands the moment we take it out of its box.
-
Is this a cold fusion estimation? You know something that is always some month/years/decades away regardless of which point in time the estimation is made? No disrespect but do you have any evidence for this claim. Because "it is the logical next step" doesn't cut if for Bandai. I think the VF-25S will be release as a VF-25 Newrenewal Edition with web shop exclusive add-on sets that won't fit the Renewal edition of course. Or Bandai will release all Frontier Valkyries that haven't been cast in toy form before they announce a reissue. After the reissue is sold out Bandai will announce the V1 of whatever Valkyrie will be included in the new Macross show. I hope it is the latter and Bandai reissues the YF-29 Alto Custom bundle with included add-on set or a bundled VF-171EX Alto Custom.
