Scyla replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I feel bad now because no issue (not even the severe ones) I have with the toy is a deal breaker. MP-22 will be closest to the image of Ultra Magnus I have in my mind since I saw him in the show/movie/comics as a child but it could be so much better in my opinion. [edit:] Are those pictures showing the painted prototype from the Tokyo toy show or is it already cast in plastic? I think I can make out some brush strokes so I think it is the prototype.- 17378 replies

I don't like how the knee joint on Magnus is bend backwards one click. This seems to indicate what I feared. MP-22 is not balanced well. And the buttflap needs to fold into itself somehow hideous inner legs, stacks to hight but the worst of all.... ....he and Convoy don't seem in love when holding hands. Bummer!- 17378 replies

See my first experience with Macross where small Battletech miniatures of the Glaug and I was disappointed that it wasn't a Timberwolf. Then there was Macross 7. I watched SDF:M and DYRL afterwards and I have no interest in more VF-1 Valkyries except more Arcadia releases. I want new mecha, new music, new love triangles and a female pilot as main protagonist!

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time II: The Quickening
Scyla replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Tough call! I would say Pearl Habor because I enjoyed some scenes out of RotF and The Island. So should The Island be the worst of the bunch because it is the only Science Fiction movie on that?- 854 replies

But but but we love to hate Michael Bay! I thought you meant why this thread is calling out Mr. Bay and that is because it was a response to the presentation he did on the new TMNT concept. This is why we harp on Michael Bay. He presented himself to the public with this new concept so he is the one to blame. I never heard Spielberg talk about the Transformers movies. Michale Bay is a polarizing personality and with his background that he "ruined the Transformers" now producing and promoting the Turtles movie he will get flag from geeky fans like us. Of course Spielberg won't be used for promoting big action blockbusters when you can have Michael Bay instead (Transformers) and of course you will use Michael Bay to promote yet another big action blockbuster if your director is not that well known (Turtles). Has anyone seen the movie poster already? Does it state something around the lines of Michael Bay presents: TMNT

The DX Chogokin Valkyries from Macross Frontier are not scale models but they are roughly 1/60 scale. Jenius measures the Yamato 1/60 scale VF-19 as 1/56 in Fighter-Mode which should be similar in size than the Arcadia YF-19. The Renewal VF-25 is roughly 1/59 in Fighter-Mode. Also keep in mind that those two Valkyries where designed in different periods with different tools so they don't compare well. In addition using the cockpit or the pilot for measurements is not a good idea.

No offense but someone really thought that the top and bottom of a Detolf is made out of real wood? If so your Ikea must be real classy. If your Ikea sells Detolf cabinets made out of real woo it must be real classy. The one in my area sells only Detolfs made out of chipboard with a layer of plastic glued onto it. Which is something I despise. The only reason I can think of why Ikea won't continue with the bleached wood design is that it it doesn't fit into their design language anymore. Actually I quite like the Stockholm design. Maybe I will check it out to see how good it keeps the dust out of the cabinet.

In addition they selected the set that is best for marketing. You know women in science sounds much better than a male power fantasy. As a side note I think that the Zelda set would be a great idea. After seeing what Bandai did with the SHF Mario set and combining this with the Minecraft level snippets you could have lots of sets to build a Lego Zelda dungeon. Back to the Lego Valkyrie. Since this project was rejected is there a possibility that we can get the plans for this one so we can build it for ourself?

I understand that his trailer bed is supposed to be red. But when you look at this image... ...the trailer bed doesn't have a consistent color so it is already not animation accurate. On the other hand if everything in the back would be blue instead of red you would have an accurate robot-mode, a more consistent trailer and the ugly gaps in the lower legs would be not as noticeable. With the red you just draw attention to the parts you want to hide (in bot mode). What I don't understand is what Takara gets from the decisions they make. To me it seems like they accumulate bad decisions to make Magnus more and more undesirable . I don't think that this is what Takara is aiming for. To cut a long story short: inconsistent alt-mode and inconsistent robot-mode -> why not focus on one accurate mode???- 17378 replies

Can please someone explain to me why the inner lower legs are red? I don't get it. The trailer bed should be red according to most of the animation but it is not on the toy because then the tights shouldn't be white. So it is not animation accurate to begin with and it looks absolutely terrible in robot mode. In addition all the animation shows him with blue lower legs and white shin guards and not read. I don't get it at all. I'm still getting him.- 17378 replies

But they have waist articulation. I think Magnus could have waist articulation in the hip. Similar to the crotch of the YF-30 or upper torso articulation. I don't see how a joint at the actual waist could exist.- 17378 replies

Macross Frontier Movies BD Boxset WITH ENGLISH SUBS!
Scyla replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
Did you picked up the DVDs or the BluRay? Depending on where you live the default region code of your drives might be different than the one from Japan. You should be able to tell the drive what kind of region code you want to use. Here is some point of reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes Hope that helps.- 287 replies

I think it would be cool if the arms where located in between the engine nacelles. For Transformation the nacelles could split in half and be re-combined when the transformation is finished.

Wasn't there an argument about the red color of the VF-19 Kai Yamato had with Kawamori. I think it went like this that the guys at Yamato that the hue prototype color was exactly the red from the animation and Kawamori answered that this is not the color it has in his mind. If this true I think that the highlights are exactly painted in the colors Kawamori envisioned.
