  1. Transcend the gravity of the depraved...I like it We need an image macro
  2. Well, that was amazing. I gotta have the Macross soundtrack playing while I watch this
  3. Thanks rdenham. I appreciate any help you can offer. The Macross 7 Sketchbook is 8 1/4 inches tall by 11 3/4 inches wide, because the book is printed in landscape rather than portait. Curious thing, when they call it a "sketchbook", they REALLY mean it. There is no table of contents, no page numbers and no header/footer pages with legal information. The book is literally single-sided pages that reprint Macross 7 line art. Some of the art is even "cutoff" around the edges with white space of the page edges removing small pieces of some fo the art. I wouldn't really recommend the book. It's notable for the large, full page prints of some line art and of course the Fz-109F Battroid "Revised" version and the Fighter/Battroid size charts. But other than that, you're best getting the Macross 7 art elsewhere. I'm really glad I got this book dirt cheap
  4. reddsun1 I can't seem to find the pictures now, but I remember doing some size comparison sketches during the development of my Zentradi page and the 8-9 meter tall Zentradi did work well within the established mecha. I agree there isn't a lot of room for anything else inside those cockpits, but if you look at the art (especially the Reguld cockpit) you can see they are largely just big hollow shells with very little equipment. The Reguld pilot appears to take up most of the space inside his pod. Anything larger is where we really begin to run into problems, like the 10-meter rule and characters like the nearly 12-meter-tall Kamjin I would agree with you that simply increasing the size of the two Battle Pods would solve the issue and even works well within some of the establishing scenes. Personally I'd think even just adding a meter or two would work wonders for accomodation. At 18-19 meters, the Reguld and Glaug could fit just about everyone. Reivaj An interesting chart. This one seems to adhere to the roughly 10-meter tall rule for the Zentradi (or Meltrandi, as it were) I think that looks good and makes sense when it comes to fitting Klan into her Queadluun-Rhea.
  5. One thing I find interesting about that picture linked above is the bizarre proportions of many of the Macross mecha. The Reguld and Glaug depicted above are really far off from the official schematics. Most likely the people that were drawing those pictures lacked proper reference. Comparing them to the following pictures, you can see the differences (which ironically, make the accommodation problem even more pronounced). http://www.macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/reguld/reguld-schematics.gif http://www.macross2.net/m3/sdfmacross/glaug/glaug-schematics.gif Regarding scale, to say the size of the Zentradi and their mecha have been depicted inconsistently is to put it mildy. Even official information on the matter seems to have changed over time and the anime depicts the Zentradi in wildly dramatic fashion. In one of the later episodes Kamjin and LapLamiz are shown so large compared to humans like Kaifun and Minmay that the Zentradi would have to be well over 20 meters tall! One possible reason the Zentradi mecha may appear to be sized so "small" could be because the Zentradi were once sized at only 8 1/2 meters tall according to an early size comparison chart for SDF Macross (http://www.macross2.net/m3/sizecharts/sizechart-1.gif). At that size, they'd have no trouble being accommodated inside a 15-meter-tall Reguld or Glaug. But it's clear this 8.5 meter size wasn't consistently followed, but then again, neither was any of the other sizes If you're interested, I wrote an analysis of Zentradi height and their comparison to each other (and their mecha). You can find it in the link below: http://www.macross2.net/m3/forfansonly/zentradiheight.html I'd be interested to know what your impression of the Zentradi size.
  6. Just something to note, while it might seem obvious to add more episodes and expand the budget for Game of Thrones, HBO has had several series fail in the past due to loss of control over budget. Series like Rome and Deadwood were cancelled before their time due to ballooning budgets. Even with GoT's popularity and success, there is a realistic ceiling. HBO is not a major Hollywood studio (only a subsidiary of one) and they have to keep things tight. I've heard from unofficial sources that GoT is also ridiculously expensive, to the tune of $60-70 million per season. Fortunately for us fans, most of that money is seen on screen
  7. Okay, found this old scan of some book in my many archives of Macross images. It has both Fz-109 Elgerzorene images I am looking for. Anyone have any idea the book from which this scan was taken?
  8. Though I knew this movie would be big, I wasn't expecting The Avengers to bring in this kind of business http://www.slashfilm...ss/#more-126572
  9. Wow, I like it. This is a frame composition we don't see often. Well done!
  10. Saw The Avengers last night with a group of friends and we all had a great time. As ever, Joss Whedon's dialogue was one of the biggest attractions of the film, producing dozens of classic lines with perfect delivery for big laughs. The visual gags were also a huge laugh and several involve the Hulk acting in amusing ways. The action is surprisingly good and it's clear the filmmakers were keenly aware of the fundamental attraction of each character, because each was showcased reverantly. The acting was solid, particularly the resonant performances by Mark Ruffalo as Banner/Hulk and again Tom Hiddleston reprising his never-quite-redeemable Loki. The ego battles between the Avengers made for some great scenes, many evoking chuckles or producing genuine tension. The special effects were put to good use and while such effects are ever expected in big films like this, the effects had added gravitas thanks to a cast of characters we actually care about. The Avengers is definitely up there with the first Iron Man as the better of the Marvel movies. Having said all that, The Avengers is so very much a comic book movie and that is to it's detriment. The story is more than a little trite and never manages to elevate itself above the preposterousness of it's premise. Of those films from recent memory, I think only 2009's Star Trek is comparable to The Avengers for absolute comic-like absurdity. The Avengers is an amazing action film and incredibly funny comedy, but it's ridiculously silly. But like Star Trek, The Avengers can never be faulted for failing to offer a great time and ultimately never fails to satisfy as pure fluff entertainment. This movie is another example of a film that actually has the laughs and entertainment we're lead to believe, in contrast to so many other Hollywood summer movies that fail to deliver. Overall I'd give it a 4 out of 5. Again - much like Star Trek (2009) - The Avengers is as good as big dumb spectacle movies get. As a big Thor fan, I have to admit one of the best laughs was the Thunder God delivering the line: "He was adopted", which I suspect is likely to become a meme at some point
  11. So what's the verdict? Is there any line art in these issues that is actually something we haven't seen before (or just really rare pieces we almost never see)? Or is the big attraction the "revised" Tenjin artwork and just more colored artwork of more common pieces that were previously uncolored?
  12. My thanks Graham. Auction prices seem low enough right now that I can afford multiple M7 artbooks. I've purchased the Macross 7 Sketchbook which will give me the Fz-109F, but I'll need a book that provides the other two pieces of art. Any insight would help.
  13. Hey nel2012, I'd definitely be curious how you made the metallic shading on the Ex-Gear portion of the bust of Alto from your deviantart profile. It's something I'd like to see if I can attempt.
  14. No Varauta stuff I need, but I do see the VF-19 Custom with the Packs. That was colored and printed in the Chronicle. However, that VF-22 Sturmvogel II in Battroid mode with LARGE legs is definitely a rare piece of M7 art.
  15. Freiflug88 This is useful for the one book I've identified that has what I need. But the biggest hurdle is knowing which book I need to buy. I kinda need to know the contents of the book before I can purchase. Don't have the time or money to buy everything, especially when most would just be reprints of what I already own. Lobizon That is definitely not what I am looking for. Those are animation pages. I'm looking for finished line art. Renato Well, if you ever do, I'd really appreciate it. If I could get photocopies of what he had, I'd be more than willing to pay for shipping and give him something for his time and effort.
  16. You've got to hook me up with that guy you know, Renato. Some of those pieces are amazing. If anyone would have this art, it'd be him. And even if he doesn't have the Varauta mecha, just looking at your pictures clearly shows he's got some line art I've never seen before. The VF-11 perspective shot is amazing! I have discovered (thanks to Seto Kaiba) that the revised version of the Fz-109F Battroid can be found in the Macross 7 Sketchbook. But that's the only one. None of the other Varauta mecha revised art is to be found in that book, so it wouldn't be exactly what I'm looking for. Still, i suppose I'd like to get a hold of that book. But ebay doesn't seem to have it.
  17. Incredible work. It's great to see Macross fan art in such sharp colors and perfect contrast. Your DYRL picture and the Alto Earring are may favorites. I'm going to have to take some pointers from you about coloring and shading
  18. Thanks for posting. Damn this series is simply gorgeous to look at. I gotta pick up these Blu-Rays.
  19. I hear this show being praised regularly by Devindra at the Slashfilm podcast. He was a fan of the original series and often sings the praises of this new show, especially for it's bold new direction that forges it's own path from the original Air Bender show. I must admit I've not invested nearly enough time into either the original show or this one. I'll have to take a look at both in more depth. They seem like shows that actually deserve proper attention.
  20. Very nice work. Don't often see good fan art for this design. A rare treat.
  21. Such a pleasure to see more of this model and your exceptional lighting/color work. We need finalized wallpapers of this stuff, is ultra HD
  22. Incredible work. If I didn't know better, I'd swear these were real. Only upon really close examination do they look like models, just taken with the right care to make them photorealistic. Well done!
  23. To all those Macross book collectors out there, I need some help tracking down which books contain certain pieces of Macross 7 line art. While working on new art for the next update to my website, I once again came across what I'm naming the "revised versions" of the Varauta mecha from Macross 7. This line art is clearly different from the more commonly published versions found in books like Shoji Kawamori Macross Design Works. The Macross Chronicle has published some of these pieces in issue #21 and issue #35, but naturally, I need uncolored line art to work on it myself. I'll post pictures below to illustrate. "Revised line art" seems to exist for the Fz-109A Elgerzorene, the Fz-109F Elgerzorene and the Fbz-99G Saubergeran. The Az-130 Panzerzorene seems to be the only exception that does not have a "revision". These revisions actually aren't NEW. They've been around for many years, published in older Macross 7 books. I just don't know which ones. So I put the question to the Macross collectors, which books contain UNCOLORED line art of these pieces of revised artwork? Anyone have an idea? Pictures attached show the older versions followed by "revised" versions. Found a better Fz-109F and replaced the original pic I posted here (see below).
  24. I don't even know what that means.
  25. Saw the trailer a couple days ago and loved it. I've had my eye on Rian Johnson's next projects ever since I saw his phenomenal film Brick. This looks like a great flick.
