Cool work there @pengbuzz!

That would suppose that they built a brand new ship, with old tech and style, specifically for Kirk and Co, even as they were already going to retire the old girl for exactly those reasons. That, and having the time to do it, when from the looks of the movie, them getting the -A happened pretty quickly after they were exonerated. It's much more likely that Yorktown, and maybe a few other Connie's, was also being retired at the same time. Perhaps, a class-retirement, as the -A is the last time we see a TMP version Constitution in any TV or movie media after the events of Undiscovered Country. And the reason for so much going wrong after the beginning of Final Frontier could easily be because the ship was already being disassembled, and was then put back together in a rush for the rechristening. Too right! We bandy about this or that about a scene or plot for decades, when they were only meant to entertain for all of five minutes or so.😜 Hah, I'd forgotten this one!

I heard the Yorktown explanation for the A, and it does suit better. They would have some older hulls drifting about and, considering the shape she was in in ST5, it looked like it was a more of an honorary action. The A had a lot of problems after departing space dock. I'm more inclined to believe she was just an old ship showing her age, rather than Starfleet doing a brand-new build of a thirty year old design. And if that explanation did come from GR's own mouth, then that's that. Though it was all gooey and emotional seeing the old lines of the 'new' Enterprise, looking back I would have preferred it had been an Excelsior hull that had take the name right then. I thought I saw a fan-edit of that scene showing that... Maybe not.

Though I liked this episode, I don't think it was as good as the first two. Not a problem though, as I still enjoyed it. Just felt it was a bit abrupt in places, and for being titled 'Ghosts of Illyria,' they didn't have much to do with the ghosts. It was really two different plots that could have been used to flush out two full episodes. One thing I don't like about episodic story telling, is that very often there is no lead-in to a revelation, such as Una being an Illyrian herself, or the prejudice against augments. I think La'an's backstory about the Gorn could have been replaced with one about her dealing with that prejudice, and then using that to pre-stage in this episode the same reactions Una was afraid of. Instead, her revelation about being Illyrian falls a little flat without any pre-set. But that is only a minor quibble. I like the plague aspect and how it was transferred, and M'benga's deepening backstory. Very nice. As an aside, anyone else notice the 'unfortunate' confluence of the seam lines on Una's uniform tunic, or is it just the adolescent still inside me?

Well, that was a good season finale! Certainly didn't pull any punches. Have to say, I liked most of the first season and this leaves me with high hopes for season 2. Some notes... Looking forward to more.

Don't care really. Size discrepencies or not, it looks good and the show is good. To my mind, the ship is still the same size as TOS no matter what they say or what they show. The only way that'll change is if they show a TOS Connie next to the SNW Connie, and the TOS looks like it's the size of a rowboat. Same with Flagship comment. Sure, The Enterprise defined Starfleet during it's second five year mission, but it's first five year wouldn't have been a pleasure cruise, and it could very well have held the flagship stasus among the other Connies at that time. As to the arrow insignia, that too is a toss-out as they were usuing it already on Disco. We're just going to have accept some level of inconsistencty.

Cool! We trust in your vast knowledge! Have to say, there have been times I've thought about (trying to bash) bashing an F-15 into one of those. -
With history being so full of blanks and empty spots, who's to say that Roanoke wasn't decimated by a hunting Predator, who was only defeated by a tribal union of Native Americans, after a climactic battle that saw the loss of so many, with the remaining Roanoke colonists being given places in the tribes after doing and sacrificing so much to try and save as many as they could? Not me.

I bailed a minute and fifty in, as I am tired of people complaining about Hollywood this and redo that and yadda yadda yadda, and just watched the SheHulk trailer instead. Looks silly and fun, and you know, that's what I want.

Obviously I meant the smaller maggots. You are free to squirm about.

I liked it. Very much a dramatic episode and I felt everyone was going pretty much true to form. Ling forward to 9! Edit. I jus made SMS Squad Leader! 'Get in line, you maggots!'

So a Predator version of the Expendables..?

Agree on all, except the last. I'm firmly in the belief that he can still die. He is not bulletproof in any fashion, and if he does die, those kids will die as well simply because he will not be there.

I still say, Pike's future of getting injured and confined to the chair, and then living out the rest of his life 'whole and hale' with the woman he loves, could be his best future. He can still die, so he still has to take care of himself and others, and he is not going to hide from that future, because if he does so those cadets will die. They have names and faces now, and in fact they are still kids, so you know he is going to do what he can to protect them. And as for at first trying to hide from it, who wouldn't? Fear grips everyone in different ways, but trying to hide from it is only natural.

I'll posit that Beyond was not what tanked the reboot series, but it was the backlash over Into Darkness that was just too deep for it (Beyond) to overcome. And a lot of that backlash was from JJ openly lying about the plot and who would be in it. And that Into Darkness was just a bad rip-off of TWoK, without anything from TWoK that made it so good. Beyond was more it's own movie rather than another redo of a previous plot (other than a villain wanting to destroy Earth - again.) The only thing that I really didn't like about Beyond was their ability to make the new Enterprise look even uglier.
