DHL shipping from AE for the Zola Patrol was $34 for me. Just paid it. Seemed about normal from pre-covid days for one package from Japan to me. Maybe a hair more. Nothing to cry about though. I like DHL over the other options in the past couple of years.

Which, funny enough, I think I would have been more on-board with? They could have marketed it under the Macross 30 game license, since it included a bunch of alternate color 171s I would have loved. On that note though, this might give us the red Millia 17S I always wanted, but Yamato never did. I'll definitely bite on that one, if it happens. All things considered though, I might still grab one or two of these down the road. They won't replace the Yammies, but I'll be very curious to see how it sells, and whether it winds up in the Amazon bargain bin (where it really belongs). They'll stay in fighter forever, but I can't say the design is terrible in that mode anyhow. At the very least it'll be a nice source of spare parts to repair more of my 171 junk pile.

The S-type head shown on the frame doesn't do it for me, though I believe the D-head will certainly do better since it is pretty similar to the 171. The one thing the 17 has going for it is that it is pretty much immune to yellowing....

Definitely a repainted 171. Heppoko Samurai missed the wings though. Those have to be new too, because the 171 has a different shape towards the inside. Black paint somehow makes the legs even skinnier lol. The gunpod definitely isn't stowing in the leg or changing ammo type. Doesn't look like they have plans for super pack, since there's no way to mount the back pack, even if they figure out how to hack the leg parts on with existing armor pack connections. Honestly, though, the revival's triangles are rock solid. I've already said in that thread, but those things seem unbreakable now. I accidentally used them as a load bearing perch for my hand to wrangle other parts, and also crushed by swinging shoulder parts around in the wrong order and angles. They just returned to form like nothing happened. Can't guarantee that with the new colored plastic, but I'd like to think bandai at least permanently learned that one lesson if nothing else Disappointing that bandai didn't even try to make the finer gimmicks that are different from the 171 work in any way, other than the elbow guns.

Bandai back in the day couldn’t compete proportionally with Imai. I sometimes wonder how Imai went under with such great looking kits compared to Bandai at the time

@pengbuzz That mini diorama is a COOL idea! It has a nice 3rd dimesion to it. I think the curvature was good and forced persepctive on the subject. @Papa Rat It will be cool to see those built! I got a couple of the "newer" ones when they went down drastically in price. @Big s The Dunbine models drove me nuts too. It reminds me of the original Atari video game art. The cartridge shows two dudes battling it out on a tennis court. You get the game and its just two sticks and a ball. The "ball" wasn't even round! - MT

That becomes overt trademark infringement as opposed to the gray area of reverse-engineered molds. Hasbro doesn't own red trucks that become robots, they don't even own a specific implementation of that concept. Physical objects are not typically afforded copyright protection. But the logos are protected by trademark and easily identified by customs as unauthorized and thus illegal uses of that trademark. If you want your toy robots to make it into the country, you won't print autobrands on them. -
Yamato obviously had other priorities but the fighter mode is much too thick. Especially when you look at it from the side and below.

I wish, but the 17 has always been a more niche design among the Valkyries, being a grunt and all. Not even Arcadia wants to reissue the Yamato version.

I might get one, but it's staying permanently in fighter mode. That battroid is fugly. Just like with the upcoming VF-19, this ain't replacing my Yamatos.

I hope Bandai get enough complaints about this that they consider changes. Honestly, I can't believe they are being this lazy.

It's shocking how much better proprtioned the Yamato looks, especially in Battroid and Gerwalk modes. I was originally thinking to order 2pcs of the Bandai DX VF-17S, but now I think I'll just get1pc and keep it in fighter mode. Unless Bandai significantly reworks the sculpt between now and release.

I just recently transformed my Bandai DX Chogokin YF-21 to Battroid mode for the first time, and as a figher guy almost exclusively, I rather like the battroid mode of the YF-21 and actually have the toy displayed in battroid. The transformation was not too horrible, I actually was expecting close to SV-262 level of anxiety, but it was pretty easy, especially watching Jenius' Scorched Earth Toys video on Youtube. Twich

Like the Isamu YF-29 Durandal Custom, they should've marketed this as a 171 in M7 Diamond Force custom color.

Yeah, just look at the Yamato 17's in comparison. I think they struck a great balance in the proportions for all three modes. With the FAST packs, it's even better. Bandai couldn't even bother remolding more of the parts to be accurate to the VF-17, skinniness aside. The only thing the Bandai beats it in is availability, which I guess is the most important factor for those who don't have the Yamato.

Yes its mine too. Now bring on the D variant plus Emerald force variants Hopefully they will redesign the legs and knee joints to bulk it up as what they did for VF-19 instead of just repainting it and throwing a new head. They could use some of engineering ideas they did fof the legs for YF-21

That was a roller coaster ride. At first I was happy about a new sleek fighter-mode VF-17 with proper markings (two areas where the Yamato one was a real letdown). But this all came crashing down after realizing it is a remold of the VF-171. And the VF-171 mold has several, not just the terrible knee joint design: the shoulders, the sliders for the fists, the way the chest locks together, the wing connection, the shoulder triangles. Sure later releases made them less error prone and more durable but I still don’t want to see them on new toys. Plus it is super line art inaccurate in a way that the Fire Valkyrie is not (which is a re-shell of the DX VF-19 I assume). If they had to reuse the VF-171 mold, Bandai should have take more care in re-shelling all the parts; this is just lazy. To be clear I’m not harping on the proportions. You cannot replicate anime magic in a physical form and I would love to have a sleek jet mode VF-17 but it needs to be more accurate than this. Also why the hard points on the wings? I don’t remember the VF-17 having ordinance in M7.

So.. on the small plus side of things.. they can remold all of the explodium parts in the proper powder blue rather than that obsidian garbage, so at least in theory they'll be less prone to shatter. (The splotchy color makes me think this is just a repainted 171 though.) Also funny that they didn't bother to mount the gun in fighter mode. Cuz.. you know. It's the wrong one. The least they could do is to mold a new one and just pretend they care.
