  2. I went to ship my DX Kai from HLJ but they want to collect 30% for duties to the US which is more than the shipping costs! The other stores I'm buying from are ignoring tariffs and letting the shipping companies bill me and I prefer that. Everywhere I look the duty is supposed to be 15% but I know all the shippers are adding processing fees on top of that. Here's the breakdown for the DX and two small Toyrise Scopedogs to California: Postage ¥10,270 JPY Duties ¥13,788 JPY Handling Fee ¥1,069 JPY Total: ¥25,127 I feel like the duties should be ¥6,894 which will still put shipping at ¥18,233! We need slow boat shipping to return.
  3. Yeah, between Variable Fighter Master File: VF-19 Excalibur (2010), Macross the Ride (2010-2011), and Macross 30: Voices Across the Galaxy game (2013) and novel (2013) versions, the question of WTH the VF-19E even is has become thoroughly muddled. I've ranted about this one before on several occasions. 😆 Macross 30's is probably the most problematic, since it implies that the VF-19E is a 1st mass production type not the 2nd type like several previous works had said. Not that Macross Chronicle is helping by identifying Aisha's VF-19E as a mass production type and saying nothing whatsoever about customizations. Probably should be shrugged off, because it's a typo in the fan translation of the light novel. 😅 The original Japanese text of the light novel doesn't have the "A", it's just VF-19E/MF. I've got some stylistic quibbles with the translation, but I'm not about to complain about it too loudly since someone actually took the trouble. What is slightly frustrating is the /MF, which denotes a local specification but we don't know from where. It's possibly they meant "Macross Frontier", which would/should make it VF-19E/MF25.
  4. Just got one copy dropped into my HLJ warehouse, so it gets to sit there for a while while they sort out shipping.
  5. Well, you fill it out, obviously, though maybe not the casino part, or the lame chase part, and you make a better training scene without crapping all over Luke, or killing Luke, and you give Finn a meaningful story line rather than some throw away crap, or... or.........🤷‍♂️

  7. The DX Chogokin VF-19Kai was put into my Anime Export stash today. It is still available for purchase for ¥33000: https://www.anime-export.com/index.php?product=98468

  9. Looking through the recently scanned Macross 30 Visual Complete Guide (curtesy of @PixelatedShinobi,) I was curious on what it said about the VF-19E, since its Mechanics section had a little bit of information of the variable fighters itself. It's described to be an aircraft Aisha personally tuned through abusing her privileges as the branch manager (lol), and interestingly also states "the system and basic configuration are based on the E-type, but the head and legs are closer to the A-type." The novelization of 30, written by the same who wrote the game's version Ukyō Kodachi, also states that Aisha's VF-19E is "a special variant called the AE/MF, which is strictly based on the AE but with an appearance closer to the 19A." The AE designation confuses me a bit, but since the novelization is based off an older draft of the game's story from the afterword, it could be something that can be shrugged off. Either way it's safe to assume the stock VF-19E would look different, I reckon the head and leg parts closer to 7's F-type, as The Ride's EF-type is shown to have both, judging from the first illustration of the first volume. If there's anything else that peaks my interest for a conversation the book, I'll be back to share!
  10. The first thing they would have to ask is how to maximize profits. With the movie business still going through the fallout from Covid and the unrelated drop off in Superhero box office (I think the drop off in Superhero movie take was due soon anyway) I'm not sure anyone can answer that. From what I hear those that have actually seen the movie said it was decent and worth seeing at the theater - but getting people out to a movie takes more than that now.
  11. Disney should check with this forum before they make another legacy film. I'm kinda sorta serious.
  12. I wonder if it will really come out looking like the instructions. The last couple releases showed that the box and manual don't represent the final products lol
  13. quite a long livestream ( 3:45:55 ) from last week about the Arcadia 1/60 VF-0A reissue version, alongside a photo session setup with the 1/60 SV-51 Nora to create some neat desktop background or so...
  14. More MechatroWeGo type AT's from Hasegawa, Definitely not my cup of tee! 🙈
  15. The DX 19's cover collapsing into the shield was and still is quite cool, even though it didn't work for Gerwalk. I think Bandai can't do the same this time around, because the Kai's side head lasers will be in the way of the cover's extension arms.
  16. For me the franchise is over. Can`t believe after almost Five decades, loving it, then finished and even I gave and sold almost my SW collection. 😞 Its over.
  17. I think, eventually, there will be a use-case where goggles will excel at and purchasing one will be unavoidable. But we’re still a ways away from that point.
  18. Same for the intakes, but those shoulder panels were always intended to be behind the shoulders, so it'd just be going directly against the original animation. Interesting though, the new photos just make it even more clear that there was some intensive retouching of those early product previews. The panels divisions are all clearly visible in the instruction manual, when they looked almost completely scrubbed out on the product site. I kind of wish they had managed this sort of neck cover on the YF-19, but I'm not sure yet whether I like the collar sticking up behind the head. Hopefully it can stow deeper than their preview images have shown.
  19. I wish they had integrated the covers behind the head in fighter mode into the shield instead of leaving them hinged on the back of the shoulders. Stoked to see there's intake fan detail.
  20. Nah, it's just a sign of Business as Usual at Disney LucasFilm. Bringing a character back from the dead unnecessarily for the sake of a hackneyed redemption arc and the promise of The Continuing Adventures is right up Dave Filoni's alley. So much so that it'd be like the third or fourth time he'd have pitched such a story in the last couple years. That was the entire premise of The Book of Boba Fett, bringing Boba's dusty arse back from being sarlacc chow to be a crime lord in name only who saves Mos Espa from the real crime lords. That was Asajj Ventress's story in Tales of the Underworld too, her coming back from the dead unable to go back to her old life and becoming an antihero. I kind of imagine the meeting worked out like that one Jimmy Neutron meme. "Dave, this is the third time you've pitched us a story about a lame and overhyped villain coming back from the dead to become a nominal good guy. Maybe get some new ideas? Ones that aren't demonstrably shite?"
  21. Another small detail is that in Battroid the gap between the chest cover & nosecone has become more Yamcadia-like, compared to the DX 19. I assume this is due to what looks like more curvature given to the area immediately behind the cockpit in Fighter relative to the DX 19. Additionally, that odd cliff between the neck cover & head in Fighter some of us were concerned about earlier seems to be gone. Previous PO pic: New pics as per manual:
  22. I hate myself. Someone combined city pop with Hornet’s catchphrases (Hollow Knight/Silksong):
  23. It depends on the style. Realistic ones can get away with a wash, but actually painting the eye can help. With anime figures, especially the higher detail ones, the best way is with water color pencils. Start with a dark wash like a darker brown or black if it’s a female character with eyeliner. Then use a water color pencil of white to get the out line of the eye and a sharpened darker one to outline the pupils and such. If they look a bit buggy you can do a quick top coat and then a bit of a light gray wash to tone the whites down
  24. I’ve been watching this guy’s excellent but simple tutorials on painting 1/35 figures. He just uses a simple colored dot. He mentions in most of his videos that trying to paint the whites of the eyes will come out looking weird and bug-eyed even at that scale. https://youtube.com/@spruesnbrews?si=oQlbZEyoL3exLVB9
  25. Sometimes, it's just that the producers oversold the movie's prospects in order to get funding and in so doing set the bar for "success" higher than was realistically achievable. Sometimes, it's because someone else overpromised and underdelivered or just plain overspent and gave the executives cold feet.
